He’s one of the lead writers for Leverage and if you ever watch the series on DVD, do yourself a favor and listen to him talk about how the scripts got written. Some of the advice he has is stuff I use all the time: 1. Don’t introduce an important plot person or thing after the first half of the story. 2. Always tie up loose ends. 3. Introduce important things in the middle of unimportant things. 4. If you have to infodump, find an emotion to tie it to and it will seem less like infodump and more like a motive rant. Today, November 20, is the Trans Day of Remembrance, a day to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia.

We honor those who found the courage to be true to themselves in the face of transphobia.

Although I am not trans myself, day in and day out, your stories have given me the courage to live life to the fullest and not let adversity and homophobia be my downfall.

Those whose lives were taken shall never be forgotten for they are still among us. They are the very foundation of our community. We are not just a collection of random queer individuals. We have come together with a purpose. There is still a long way to go. We must look up to our trans brothers and sisters who were true to themselves despite being condemned, hated on, and taken away from us, and draw courage from them.

Violence and transphobia will never win. Community, truth, and acceptance shall prevail.

In your footsteps of truth and courage I shall follow. Now and always.

YouTube is Closing down ALL family friendly channels

If you haven’t already heard about this, the FTC is planning to remove ALL channels deemed “family friendly” by the end of 2019

What this means is that content creators’ videos will be demonetized (no ads will run on videos, thus no income)

In addition to that, the comments will be disabled, leading to NO interaction between the audience and the creator.

Content creators will either be moved to the YouTube Kids app or will not be supported by the main YouTube overall.

This includes:

Game Theory

Most if not all doll-customization channels

Food channels

Education channels

Art channels

Heck, even gaming channels might get hit by this!

But what constitutes as "family-friendly" content is far too vague for this to be implemented correctly. Channels not even trying to target kids will be unfairly hit.

Also, censoring people by turning off the comments on videos that are deemed too "family-friendly" is absolutely rediculous. A lot of it also boils down to censorship, not just money.

Parenting should be left to the parents, not the youtube creators. If the parents don't parent their children correctly and watch them, that's on THEM, not the creators.

As such, there's already a Youtube Kids app, which children should be implementing already. It isn't the fault of the creators if parents won't use that app for their children. They shouldn't be punished, censored, or fined for it.

This whole thing shouldn't be happening.

I'm aware, but with this law, using certain words in videos or displaying certain colors alone can get you marked as being a channel geared towards a younger audience, and generally things meant for younger audiences are also lumped into the "family friendly" category because that content is safe for the whole family to watch, meaning you can watch it with your children. But in that same vein, if the content is "family friendly", it's going to be focusing more on the child aspect of "family friendly" rather than the parents who may be watching with their child. Like Disney, for example.

No matter what way you look at it, this still really fucking sucks, and what makes things worse aside from the obvious money issues and rediculous fines is the insanely heavy censorship that would cause youtubers to alter the basic vocabulary they use in passive speaking, like the words "cool" or "whatever", which is absolutely rediculous.

So yes, there may be a difference between "family friendly" and "targeted towards children", but both can still be hit just as hard, and with how unreliable Youtube's algorithm is (see: the massive spam ban that happened on Markiplier's channel due to a faulty algorithm that caused the complete lockout of many people's entire google accounts with no forewarning despite being a lot of users' first-time offense, as what was supposed to happen as stated by Youtube's Terms of Service), this can only end badly, with many channels being hit unfairly and harshly, and possibly end up with small channels in over their heads in thousands and thousands of dollars in fines, all because they couldn't go all the way back to the beginning of their uploads to mark each and every video as "kid-friendly" or not. For Youtubers with thousands of videos, this is an impossible task. And beyond this, what about the Youtubers who make videos outside of the US? Will US law affect them, too? This law, by that point as well, wouldn't make any sense to implement worldwide. But more importantly, this shouldn't be affecting the creators at all. It is not their job to be parenting children, and we cannot make the entire world kid-friendly. We can't be censoring people in this way; it's entirely unethical.

So call us sheep if you want, but the issue transcends money. This is censorship at its finest, and it needs to be stopped.

The legend says that she never got arrested for all her deeds because king Louis XIV thought she was way too entertaining to deserve death. I have no idea if that’s true. But she did sing in Versailles for the Court, so there’s that.

There is no such thing as a job “for teens” (and even if there was, they deserve a fair wage for their labor, too.) Nobody should get paid so little that they need “side jobs.”

If your business model relies on paying people a wage that keeps them trapped in poverty, your business should not continue to exist. McDonald’s can afford to pay their workers a better wage, they’re choosing not to.

Funny story- I am a manager at a Mc Donald’s. Do you know? We have a set limit of minors- teenagers- we can employ. It’s barely over a dozen. Most locations open at 6am… guess what, on week days minors cannot work before they are out of school, or before 730am if they are out of school (GED and the like) also 730am on weekends. Minors cannot work after 10pm on weekdays, and after Midnight on weekends. My location closes at 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 1am on Friday and Saturday. Because of labor laws here, they may not have more than 20 hours a week, and cannot work more than 5 hours in a single day.

So no. This is absolutely not a job just for teens. We have a giant compactor that crushes and crushes our trash. If you’re not 18 you’re not allowed to operate it. Anything sharp? Are you 18? Can’t touch it. Being a manger? Are you out of high school and at least 18? Forget it.

And honestly, I wouldn’t make any of the kids at my job deal with our customers when they’re going feral. Do you know how bat shit y’all are?? I had a woman start crying because we ran out of the Mc Rib and caused a scene in my drive-thru for 10 minutes. I’ve had old men cussing me out because Corp decided to bump a senior coffee from .99 to 1.09. Though if you sit inside, which they all do for well over two hours every morning… refills are free.

We have a lady here who we call “Princess Diamond” because she’s so fucking entitled she gave us a bad review on the McVoice because we served a homeless man and he sat to close to her… which was across the entire goddamn lobby. Would you really want a teen trying to deal with this woman??

I sure as shit don’t. I don’t allow her to deal with most of my Crew, actually. I’m as nice as freaking sugar in your tea to her face but if she gets rude I start slamming her order down on the tray. And as my Crew knows, the sweeter my voice gets the more trouble your in. She doesn’t stay long on days were I start getting aggressive with her food.

Side tracked- but no. We have so many things that need to be done all day long that we can’t legally let a minor do. A sister location was just fined over $5,000.00 because of labor violations pertaining to minors.

Just pay us so we can live. Please. A lot of these teens are trying to move out and get into apartments. But if an apartment costs 800.00 in rent and that’s usually one of the two checks a month an adult gets. Maybe. That’s a struggle even for myself, and it’s just my roommate, our dumb cat, and me. No children. He has a worse paying job.

We just want to be able to live.

The minimum wage, when it was set in 1938 as the United States was coming out of the Depression, was intended to be the minimum you needed to be able to pay your bills and raise a family on a single income. Not this bullshit we have today. It’s as low as it is because it hasn’t kept up with inflation.

Like, not only is working in fast food one of the hardest fucking jobs because it’s hot, it’s dangerous, and it’s full of the worst customers, but it’s also disrespected constantly, and people don’t think you deserve to be able to pay your bills.

Fuck that.

Pay workers enough to live on with a single full time job.

Any business that can’t? Shouldn’t exist.

This human is doing something dangerous and ill-advised, but it’s still hopeful that we can love something like a 130,000 lb deep-diving, squid-eating Oceanic former ungulate.
