Most all of us find ways to numb what we so desperately don't want to feel.
Our hearts hurt just reading this. How incredibly violating it must feel to be attacked by someone in a position of authority. Such a betrayal when someone abuses their power. It's not OK.
We think we can have more than one soul mate, Lovely Humans. And it's not limited to romantic relationships.

Ah, yes. We've spent the majority of our life struggling with "failing" to change. Seems like change is a messy business. That's full of failure, lapses, and wrong turns. But to keep trying, even when you aren't at all convinced that it's going to work out...it's a brave thing. And sometimes we can't easily see that we are making progress, because we're so in the thick of it. Maybe it doesn't seem like our efforts last very long. But if we can keep at it, we may be surprised to find that we have failed enough to grow.

Huey Lewis would agree. As do we, Lovely Humans.
…saying “no” gets easier with practice and repetition.
And having the right script—a starting point, so you’re not starting at a blank screen—can make all the difference.
Here’s a universal script that works for just about any scenario:
Hey [name],
Thanks for your note. I’m so proud of you for ___—and I’m flattered that you’d like to bring my brain into the mix.
I need to say “no,” because ___.
But I would love to support you in a different way. [Offer an alternative form of support here]
Thank you for being such a wonderful ___. I am honored to be part of your world.
[A few closing words of encouragement, if you’d like]

This is the story of romantic love, one that so many of us are blessed to know.
Lovely Human, thank you for being so brave. Might you picture a 6 year old girl, who adores her brother and trusts him completely. Who did what was asked of her by someone she loved. Might you get a clear picture of her face. And imagine looking into her eyes. Can you tell her that she's done anything wrong? That there is anything to forgive her for? She's 6 years old. She's looking to those around her, literally looking up to those around her to show her the way. She did what she thought she was supposed to. And she trusted as any child would. We will do just about anything if we think it will win us love. Especially when we're 6. You did nothing wrong.
