“he’s just a lil guy” i say about an athlete who’s almost a foot taller than me
"this is an inaccurate adaptation" okay but is it good "this didn't happen in the book" does it make sense in the context of the new work though "they totally changed the plot" and is the new one good or bad "it's completely different" not what I asked "they changed all the stuff I like" then I get why you wouldn't be into it but I'm asking about its own artistic merits "this character is meant to be blonde" I couldn't give less of a fuck
#yeah #accuracy-handwringing is so tiresome #writing and film-making are different art forms so jot that down #i do personally get annoyed by films that are visually striking but ignore core aspects of their source material #but i often think of what michael ondaatje said when someone bewailed 'what had been done' to his novel (english patient) #they did nothing to it (said he); they made a film (@oldshrewsburyian)
the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible
because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person
from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating
it’s fucked up.
What is the most important step a man can take?
The next.
I think part of the pushback about this is the idea that, to “redeem” bad people, their victims must first forgive them for unforgivable acts.
This is false. No one is obligated to forgive you. You can learn from your mistakes and become the best, kindest person on earth, and the people you’ve hurt still won’t forgive you, and you’ll have to accept that. And that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to grow. Because we aren’t just “pure” or “sinful”, we’re complex.
it’s been talked about a million times but way too many books now have a problem with telling and not showing. a character in the book i’m reading rn said “my therapist says my anorexia and drug use is my way of gaining control” girl i don’t want to hear that i want to see you starving yourself and snorting coke every time something goes wrong

WHERE is that poem about that person learning all about their partners hyperfixation before getting dumped the last line is like "love is a stack of books on my nightstand with a bookmark near the end" I need it to feel whole help me please

A Bookmark Near the End
He loves history. He wanted to write a biography of John Quincy Adams. I, shamefully, knew almost nothing about John Quincy Adams, so I went online and bought every biography of him I could find. One day, he called me, claiming that we wouldn’t work out long term. He said he loved me but that we had different interests. “What does love mean to you?” I said. “That’s an impossible question,” he replied. I, however, find love to be quite simple. Love is the stack of biographies on my nightstand with a bookmark near the end. — Julia Nicole Camp
how am I supposed to stay sane after reading this smh
the thing about misogyny is that nothing makes apparent how prevalent it is faster than just pointing out misogyny, which will have people scuttering out of the damn sewers like ninja turtles to accuse you of being an overly sensitive shit-stirring know-nothing who's making up things to be offended about. which is actually also pretty misogynistic, but if you point it out people will come scuttering out of the damn sewers—
it's summer which means i am constantly asking myself questions such as "who is on my hockey team" and "is that a good idea"

love this hadjar max dynamic where max is the one being more careful with his words about the team and hadjar is just 'the car sucks, the upgrades tried to kill max and the car is probably dnfing on lap 7 tomorrow'
UNGRATEFUL tech companies are saying things like "turn off your ad blocker" and "we need your photo id" instead of "thank you so much for not just pirating our shit, youre so handsome"
On the one hand I am very sure that most drivers are aware to some extent of fanfic and some inkling of the shipping that goes along with it.
On the other teams should know better than to broach this subject with their actual drivers for content (I am aware they don't care they just want engagement but still)
The best thing to do in this instance is not to engage with the content on the platforms the team is posting on. If it's not rewarded with views and likes and interactions they will pivot tactics. The best thing you can do is ignore it.
And finally, do your part and keep rpf off of sites like twitter and tiktok etc.
So apparently the situation is worse than I first realized, and Peroni posted actual authors names and fic titles. I don't really know how to navigate sponsors and journalists poking around the rpf. Because, they haven't bought into the fandom social contract we have, they don't follow the rules because they don't know them and don't really care.
I guess the best solution is again, to just ignore it, and to not reward this kind of thing. Even calling it out too much is just leading to attention for them and they might not see that as a bad thing.
This is a collab and a sponsor. They are doing this because they think that this will appeal to the audience they have outlined as large and valuable to them. If that audience rejects this kind of behavior by not engaging, that is the only real way I see to get them to back off.
They make it really clear in this article why they are doing it. The idea that fanfiction is a vital part of the connection fans have to the sport and therefore teams need to engage with it is not a good direction. I keep coming back to the idea that we need to make it clear that they are wrong about this. Doing this will not bring more engagement, it will not make fans happy, and their promotions will fall short of the numbers they envisioned.
The other thing is I guess fics that are so unmarketable in terms of content are probably safe
Final note: Do not go and comment on the authors fics that were named in this article, they probably have enough going on and the main reason we keep fandom in fandom spaces is so creators do not get put on blast to an audience they never intended to reach.
“Hahah Lewis said he would write fanfic” brands are getting more and more bold about using fanfiction as a joke and for content because people couldn’t restrain themselves from talking about rpf on twitter and even in official replies.
So since the metaphorical horse has well and truly been dragged out of the stable, this is your millionth reminder to LOCK. YOUR. FICS.
It’s not just about not wanting drivers to see your work- having been on the side of an official account merely LIKING one of my drawings back when I used to post on Twitter, the amount of vitriolic comments I got for a solo drawing was overwhelming. Brands won’t respect your boundaries or ask for consent, so lock your work and make yourself as hard to find as you can

men's sports rpf is ethical because i'm making that man significantly more empathetic and emotionally intelligent, and with a much richer inner world. he should be thanking me, actually
can’t go wrong with pining while fucking as a trope. truly it has it all. pining. awkward sexual situations. weapons grade insecurity for all parties involved. the desperation as they inevitably fall further and further while hating themselves for being unable to stick to the contract of no strings attached. etc. you understand
