Coco, the Brim Hat Witch Spoiler tagged since it does show some stuff from the manga..but her brimmed cap outfit is so awesome, I thought it'd be a great contrast to my other illustration of Coco surrounded by her loved ones🥺
random PSA, I know a lot of people use duckduckgo as a Google alternative search engine, but it always kind of annoyed me when I was using it because it felt like No Name Brand Google
I have switched to using Startpage.com and vastly prefer it. for one thing, instead of displaying an "AI summary" at the top of the search results (unless you turn it off, yes I know), it displays the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, with link, whenever it finds one that's relevant.
also a waaayyyyy better sense of design than duckduckgo
also private, European based, least annoying search I've used lately (RIP old "don't be evil" Google)
Keeping a list of Google alternatives just in case…
i have one of those, scraped from multiple different rec posts:
Search Engines
Infinity Search is an alternative search engine with a special focus on privacy
DuckDuckGo is a popular search engine for those who value their privacy and are put off by the thought of their every query being tracked and logged. Uses bangs, ![site] for in-page search (sells your data to microsoft and draws from fucking bing)
WolframAlpha is a privately owned search engine that allows you to “compute expert-level answers using Wolfram’s breakthrough algorithms, knowledgebase, and AI technology.” A data search engine.
Boardreader is a search engine for forums and message boards. It allows you to search forums and then filter down results by date and language.
Based in France, Qwant is a privacy-based search engine that won’t record your searches or use your personal details for advertising. Uses “&” as a bang search.
Another privacy-based search engine is Search Encrypt, which uses local encryption to ensure that users’ identifiable information cannot be tracked. Metasearch across multiple engines.
Offering unbiased results from several sources, SearX is a metasearch engine that aims to present a free, decentralized view of the internet. Can be self-hosted.
Gibiru’s tagline is “Unfiltered private search” and that’s exactly what it offers. Requires AnonymoX Firefox add-on for privacy.
Disconnect allows you to conduct anonymous searches through a search engine of your choice.
Swisscows provides fully encrypted searches to protect your privacy and security. Built-in violence/porn filter cannot be overridden.
MetaGer offers “Privacy Protected Search & Find” through its anonymised search. A plugin will allow it to be made a default.
Gigablast is a private search engine that indexes millions of websites and servers real-time information without tracking your data, keeping you hidden from marketers and spammers. Variety of filtration and refinement options for searching.
Oscobo is a search engine that protects your privacy while you search the web. By not using any third-party tools or scripts, your data is protected from hacking and misuse. Has a Chrome extension to allow use in toolbar.
https://search.marginalia.nu/ an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed. Use old-school searching rather than query-based for the best results.
https://www.mojeek.com/
https://wiby.me/ - It’s goal is to index as many personalized websites as possible, and NOT commercial sites.
https://4get.ca/ it works a lot like SearX, but honestly better. It doesn’t have its own index, but pulls from many others. I think it’s the best for research, since it allows you to search for answers from different indexes, is easy to configure, add free, and avoids censorship as much as it can.
https://www.searchenginemap.com/ for more on how search engines relate to each other.
https://yep.com/ is a crawler
https://www.etools.ch/ retrieves from Google, Mojeek, Bing, and Yandex, like Searx
https://www.dogpile.com/
https://searxng.org/ (next gen Searx)
https://luxxle.com/ - possibly conservative?
https://presearch.com/ - good for academic?
https://kagi.com/smallweb - free/randomised Kagi.
Other Searchers
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.

tomodachi life coming through with the representation 👏🏾👏🏾
the things I've learned from my mom
Some affirmations for people with trauma caused by christianity:
There is no such thing as original sin
You are not inherently evil or sinful
Making mistakes doesn’t make you evil or sinful. It makes you human, and all humans make mistakes
You do not deserve eternal torment for any reason
You do not deserve eternal torment for being queer
You do not deserve eternal torment for being neurodivergent
You are not a bad person for leaving the church
You deserve love
You deserve respect
You deserve freedom from the church
Sometimes I feel like being an exvangelical queer gives me something of a leg up when it comes to self soothing in the face of doom.
Gee whiz, the world is ending? [takes a deep drag off my cigarette] never heard that one before. How about you sit down and have a whiskey? You seem stressed
if I’m wrong about god and religion and heaven and hell, please, god. don’t send me to hell to burn in some nameless lake of fire. kill me with your own hands so that I’ll have felt you. just once in my life.
I think one of the most healing things about decision from Christianity is being able to answer "I never asked him to" when people try to guilt me with "but he died for you!" Yeah well, I never asked. If God is truly all-powerful and all-knowing, then why did he need to sacrifice his son? Why not clap his hands and say "you're all forgiven"?
Oh that's right.
Cause then they couldn't control you with guilt. If he had just forgiven anyone, there would be no emotional blackmail, no way to make you feel like you owed it to someone who did something for you without asking.
Well that doesn't work on me anymore. The guilt is gone and I can breathe again.
I wonder if I had been raised liberal Christian instead of rigidly evangelical could my faith have lasted?
Boomer ex-christian coworker who was raised liberal keeps going on about how MAGA Christians are “so totally opposite what Christianity is all about.” Unfortunately I genuinely think they are completely in line with it. Maybe I’d feel differently if I had her background.
One of the dumbest things about the Bible is that it claims that the Word of God is clear. No it’s fucking not, if it was clear we wouldn’t have different sects of Christianity and people wouldn’t be disagreeing over what the Bible is trying to say.
I’d also like to mention, how difficult the Bible is to read when you have certain conditions like neurodivergency or intellectual disabilities. If the Bible was clear in the supernatural way they claim, neurodivergent people (like me) and people with intellectual disabilities would also be able to understand it just fine. God did make neurodivergent and intellectually disabled people right? Tell me how I’m supposed to learn God’s word when God never made things clear to me when I prayed and asked for guidance.
There's something deeply amusing about people using Tumblr, a site full of queers, pagans, monster fuckers, and freaks, to spread their religion. Like sir, many of us are former Christians or downright despise the religion for the trauma it induces. Do not come here with that clownery. You can sit in the back and be quiet but don't presume you have influence here.
Christians protesting the Buddhist Monks that are walking for peace while America collapses is another great example on why we say “there’s just no hate like christian love”. What happened to taking up the cross, Christians? If anything, those monks are a better example of Jesus’ command to love thy neighbor and bearing the weight of the cross.
If hell is real, a loving God would be doing more to keep us from it. The answer I usually get to this is that God has provided enough evidence and is leaving room for faith. Which would make sense… if we weren’t facing a torturous fate. With low stakes, low effort is excusable.
But when the stakes are that high? A God who truly loved us would be doing EVERYTHING to save us from it, even if that meant appearing right before our eyes. He would be doing many things that he is obviously not. If my loved ones were in mortal peril, there is nothing in this world that could keep me from trying to help. Just because I love them.
So I can only conclude that he is either not real, lying about Hell, or apathetic to my wellbeing. Whatever the answer— fake, liar, or apathetic—, that is not a God I want to serve.
If God loved me, he would try harder.
I may not be a “full on” anti-theist but I wish it was more normalized and less controversial to simply be against what a book says because it supports harmful beliefs and mindsets. I don’t care what religion or spiritual beliefs people practice as long as they aren’t harmful, bigoted, or oppressive. I’ll fight for your right to practice your beliefs but that doesn’t mean I support everything your book says.
I hate it when xtians reduce my religious trauma to "a religious person said something mean to you once so now you're mad at religion".
Like, shut the fuck up. My trauma isn't just someone being a little rude to me once, it was systematic, deliberate manipulation with the threat of possible eternity of suffering in Hell if I didn't obey religious rules and "keep Christ in my heart". It was "Nonbelievers burn in a lake of eternal fire. Tell your friends to convert to our faith or they'll be damned for eternity".
I have suffered from anxiety, ocd and other mental health issues for several fucking years because of this shit. I've suppressed my sexuality and felt terrible guilt just for the 'sin' of having sexual thoughts. I've feared for my loved one's souls, genuinely believing they would go to Hell for simply not being xtians and that I'd never see them again in the afterlife.
These beliefs are sick and twisted. What I went through was sick and twisted.
I seriously don't know what to say to you if you still think telling anyone, let alone a child, that they're going to be damned for eternity if they disobey 'God's word' is totally fine and not abusive.
Know your fucking place and stop speaking over trauma survivors who have been hurt by your shitty religion.
