Get you a girl who can do both
me: isn’t it funny how captain kirk was supposed to be the sex appeal of star trek but it ended up being spock
my dad: i thought it was bones
me:
my dad: i thought bones was supposed to be the sex appeal
I have a working theory that while yes, Kirk and Spock have their intentional and unintentional sex appeal going on, Bones was purposefully written to represent actually attainable/unrepressed sexuality.
Kirk is arguably hypersexual, or at least is fine with being perceived as such (him being considered a “womanizer” to such a large portion of the audience would likely be exactly how people in-universe see him too)
Spock being desirable was also introduced pretty early, and I think him being “weirdly sexy” was always the intent, and they just were surprised it worked so /well/
But the most important fact about both of their sexuality is that; they are completely emotionally unattainable, and do not have a healthy relationship with their sexuality AT ALL
On the OTHER hand, emotionally confident doctor big dick over there doesn’t have complicated mental illnesses about relationships. He is easily physical and easily emotional with just about everyone he interacts with (not exclusively in a sexual way) which makes him a way more grounded form of sex appeal than the cosmic, emotionally compromised situationship that’s happening right next to him.

Picard's delivery here is so funny. He takes this extremely seriously
The entire population of tumblr to Julius Caesar every year:
Who would you trust more?
total stranger in a star trek shirt?
total stranger in a star wars shirt?
No exaggeration, the vote split on this poll is hysterical.
broke: spock's eyeshadow was meant to define nimoy's features on low quality tv screens and to indicate that he's an alien (which is why vulcans even in ds9, etc. have blue eyelids)
woke: spock spends his mornings beating his face and reports to the bridge wearing juicy plumpalicious trixie cosmetics strawberry lip gloss
real shit: spock's eyeshadow was intended as stage makeup to emphasise nimoy's facial features and spock's non human ness but since we've somehow regressed in our attitudes regarding masculinity since the 60s AOS and SNW were so scared of anything about him being read as outwith the status quo (read: queer) that they retroactively ensured that he is destined to blossom into the fabulous queen theyve now made him become in tos, subsequently turning a practical sfx choice into the queercoding they were so afraid of
🍕🦎🌟 HAPPY THRESHOLD DAY 🌟🦎🍕
IT'S THRESHOLD DAY
Happy Threshold day everyone
my two dear friends
favorite duo with little screentime, many such cases
bashir isn’t even a doctor after season five he just walks around in various costumes saying “shall we go to quahk’s”
since i'm once again on a TOS binge, here are some of my favorite Bill Thiess creations. truly the best to ever do it. the pink number from "Who Mourns for Adonias" that is only held up by the weight of the train??? sensational
four years before his death, Thiess auctioned off a lot of these pieces and donated the money to charity. if you ever want to feel insane read the prices some of it sold for. that metallic halter top + cape fit??? $173. are. you. kidding. me.
It’s that time of the year again :)
star trek heritage post (December 16th, 2016)
I love ds9 it's like. Here's a recently widowed single father grieving but now he's a major religious figure to an entire planet. Here's a woman who spent her girlhood as a terrorist and has now lived to see liberation and doesn't know how to stop fighting. Here's a doctor hiding a secret that could ruin his life if it's revealed. Here's a spy for the fascist former occupiers with a horrible cover story. Here's a person bonded with a symbiont living their eighth lifetime. Here's an alien who has no idea what he is or where he comes from.
And here's Miles O'Brien thinking he was getting a normal job.
