@scavengerflight
this came to me in a dream
Nekhbet
Offerings
Water, milk, black teas, black coffee, beer, wine, gin, tequila, vodka.
Meat, bread, fruits and vegetables, spices (saffron, turmeric, cinnamon,), grains, chocolate, honey, cakes and pastries, or papyrus.
You can offer her frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, kyphi, rose, cinnamon, cassia, galbanum, cedar wood, iris, lotus, and lemongrass incense, candles, perfumes, or essential oils. It seems like red, blue, green, black and white symbolically represented her, so candles of these colors are acceptable (as well as other items). The fire itself can also be an offering to her.
You may offer her gold, silver, lapis lazuli, turquoise, or amulets.
You may offer her knives, bow and arrows, spears, or other weapons.
You may offer her the ankh, the Shen, sistrum, the Eye of Re, flail, papyrus scepter, or the was scepter to her. As well as figurines/images/drawings of vultures, hawks, lions, or cobras.
Devotional Acts
Running! Nekhbet is known for her speed, so running with her could be a great devotional act. As well as regular exercise. She’s an Eye of Re and a very protective deity, so working out, learning self defense, or other things along these lines could be a great devotional act. You might even pick up archery.
Nekhbet is a defender of maat, so doing acts of maat and protecting maat is a great devotional act. This can be like defending justice, standing up for whats right, vanquishing thoughts from others that diminish another’s life; or it can be done like environmental justice or animal justice. It can also look like being an active part in your community, or building one, seeking knowledge and acts of wisdom, taking care of your neighbor or those in need.
Donating to bird sanctuaries or even helping out at one.
Acts of leadership.
Lending a hand to those who need it. She’s ‘who repels suffering,’ so it can be as simple as just lending an ear or helping out where you can to those who are close to you. This can also look like donating to charities, helping out at different shelters, or feeding the houseless.
Signs
Signs may include seeing her scared symbols or animals. You may start seeing vultures and falcons/hawks/eagles more often, or even snakes. You may start seeing the image of the royal crown or the uraeus; along with the shen symbol.
You might feel really hot out of nowhere.
You may feel incredibly safe and protected, like every worry is melting away. It could be an innate feeling of safety, too.
You might see people falling out of your life that don’t belong there, or those who aren’t good for you.
You may start seeing yourself becoming more of a leader, where you’re able to stand up for yourself and others, along with the ability to give commands without being domineering. You might see yourself standing up straighter and speaking clearer.
my really funny and original concept
Shooting my proverbial "does anyone else experience this" shot
Anyway happy pride month

I wanna try and draw every first evolution ghost types.
I was thinking of a pride art challenge people could do with their OCs, because I thought it'd be cute! A queer/trans artist with their creations.
but then I realised that same challenge would be infinitely more funny with folks who have atypical or horror OCs
I'm not a therian but pls reblog or something if youre an adult therian. I need to find more nonhuman blogs, a lot of people on here who identify as animals are children.
I wonder why
Hymn to Nekhbet
“Homage, O Lady of the Mouth of the Valley, Mistress of Heaven.
Mistress of the gods,
beautiful tiller for him who has no rudder judge in heaven and on earth
beautiful star invisible except in good times.”
Lesko, Barbara S. The Great Goddesses of Egypt. University of Oklahoma Press, 1999. pp. 68
Any other followers of ancient Egyptian dieties have any suggestions for good sources for pyramid texts? I keep seeing a particular epithet for Mother Nekhbet mentioned, but I'm having a hard time finding it. I keep seeing websites mention it being in fifth dynasty pyramid texts, but since I want to find good sources, it's proving somewhat difficult.
Some books about/translating the Book of the Dead barely even mention her, if at all.
Part of me exploring this path involves me trying to better understand some of those origins. Open to any advice.
Avian culture is loving to take the plane even though you know how wrong it is for the planet because I'M FLYING OMFG
:>
i also feel a need to bring up this doohickey as a human flight concept
Thoughts from a Greymuzzle
After posting that I was looking for friends, I realize just how out of touch I am with the current therian community. Like, wow - I understand it's been some time but the amount of new identities, terminology, views... it's a lot to process.
Now, I might just have some old-school way of thinking but, I feel like therianthropy is no longer what it used to be. To clarify, I'm all for one being who they are; I stand by the statement 'only you know who you are'. Yet, I can't help but notice there are so many who seem to be reaching and searching for something that just isn't there in hopes of validation and acceptance.
I'm probably going to get some hate swung my way for voicing my opinions right now, but I need to clarify them for anyone who may be or already is following me because I do not align with the current beliefs of therianthropy.
Therianthropy to me is 'identifying as an animal'. Not with an animal, not feeling like an animal, not associating with an animal just cause I like it's aesthetic or think it's cool. And - nothing against those who do because polytherians are a thing but, for crying out loud, 20? 30? 50+? You might as well identify as the whole animal kingdom at that point. Because how? Again, I'm old school and maybe I just don't fully understand, but as a therian myself, as an animal, I can't imagine feeling that many multiple instincts pulsing inside of me. I mean, the contradictions in carnivore and herbivore alone would drive me insane.
This is most definitely where I'm about to get some hate now, but I want to continue. I fully believe that therianthropy at this time has become nothing but a fad and a trend that younger, impressionable individuals hopped on because it was cool. Why be a human when you can say you're a black wolf/arctic fox/otter/bear/snake/cicada, right? And identity is what you make of it so, gods forbid, someone tells you that you can't identify as that, right? That's invalidation.
But where does it stop?
I am 30 years old. The therian community used to be something I was proud to be a part of. Because everyone questioned everything. Not because there was gatekeeping but because no matter what it is, there will be fakes and trolls. So naturally, you want to question someone who comes claiming they're something else. Now, I will admit, I did witness some gatekeeping within the community, but the overall questioning is healthy. It's a process of self-growth. How are you going to know yourself if you don't question yourself?
I did. Even when I knew I was a wolf, I still spent over 3 years questioning myself. I kept track of everything I did, everything I felt, every experience I had and you know what happened - self validation. I was a wolf, through and through.
Back then, the community was more focused on authenticity. Being true to yourself. Now it just seems to be an aesthetic for who can look the coolest. Quads and masks are ok; healthy ways of expression, but they aren't the defining definitions of a therian.
Therians are animals.
I am an animal.
I have prey drive; the urge to hunt, to stalk, to sink teeth into flesh.
I itch under my skin. I struggle to sometimes talk because language is foreign to me. I struggle to understand social cues because my eyes are trained to watch body language. I growl when angered, snap to correct someone misbehaving, whine/whimper when injured, nuzzle for comfort.
All of these things come naturally to me because I am an animal. I am a therian. I am a wolf.
If you don't feel any kind of instincts associated with the animal you identify as, I personally think you're misusing the term therian.
But at the end of the day, that's my own opinion. All of this is just my own viewpoint. To clarify, only you know what you are. But I will still encourage each and every person who is nonhuman to question everything. Ask yourself why you feel you are x creature/being. And don't just settle for 'I feel like it'; dig deeper than that. Reach inward and truly analyze yourself.
Question. Grow. Progress.
I can't help but agree. A massive chunk of the community now seems to downplay that therianthropy/alterhumanity/etc is. Even now, with the identity I've been most comfortable with, that is ME, I am always questioning and looking deeper.
Questioning isn't just doubting yourself or realizing you were wrong. In most cases, including myself, I end up learning more about myself and my worldview. I end up more confident and proud of being who I am.
I don't "identify as" a vulture. I am a vulture. No one can take that away from me.
The Joy of Being Forgotten
When I die, I will be returned to my Mother, body and soul. I will become part of everything else that is and once was, ever present and completely absent.
There will be those who remember me, but they will meet the same fate. One day, there won't be anyone left to remember me. My name won't carry any weight, my accomplishments will go unacknowledged, and everything about me will be completely gone. That gives me such a powerful sense of relief.
This idea seems to terrify people, and those such people are perplexed as to why this idea is so comforting to me. They are saddened by the idea of being forgotten. They want to be remembered.
Being remembered sounds nice of course, but I don’t need it. As long as the memory of me brings joy and lessons to those I love until their own times come, my life will have served one of its purposes.
My decaying body and vibrant spirit will be smiling as I become part of Mother again. Until then, I must treat this life like the gift it is, and wait patiently until my time to be forgotten comes.
Any other birds experience rapid little tail waggles? I've only really seen crows and smaller birds do it in videos or in person, but I still get this feeling as a vulture. It even kind of works to help with my restless legs lol
Mostly happens when I'm particularly anxious or have had too much caffeine.
Do folks still do classic gear posts? I realized I haven't done one in ages, so I thought it would be fun to do one once I move back into my apartment. I have quite the collection of vulture-related stuff haha
Still want to do it regardless of if it's still a thing, but it just got me thinking of ye olde therian trends lol
