There was a character in a book I read once who was described as "handsomely fat" and that phrase is stuck in my brain forever. The author really was like "no shut up, they're charismatic, they're good-looking, they're handsomely fat. not just handsome AND fat; them being fat is directly contributing to their good looks. you agree." and they were RIGHT

THE MATRIX (1999) dir. The Wachowski Sisters
This post is about The Woods All Black by Lee Mandelo. Spoilers ahead.
The way this book handles gender is very interesting. The main character, Leslie, is a trans man but since this takes place in 1929, the language hasn't evolved to what it is today so he calls himself an invert, a woman turned man. One of the people he meets in this small town is another trans man, Stevie. However, Stevie sees himself as more of a man who's just in a different body, instead of as having ever been a woman. They're both the same from an outside view but feel very differently and probably have a different view of their own bodies and identities, which might have been influenced by their pasts and experiences, since one is older and from the city while the other is barely eighteen and has only ever lived in his small, extremely religious town. I think it gives a unique perspective to the different aspects and experiences of the trans community that might not be talked about as much. I highly recommend this book.
Bruh i just finished the woods all black and it is so goddamn refreshing to see brutalized queer folk just go fucking apeshit. Kill the idea of "being the bigger person" and "kill them with kindness". The love interest was brutalized and ostracized, and you know what he did. Made an offering to the woods, became an eldritch monster, and dismembered the man who assaulted him. Then he fucked the mc. In his monster form.
The mc came into town with kindness and good intentions, and he was harassed, threatened, and almost murdered by a mob led by an insane preacher. So what did he do? Stabbed that bitch preacher in the jugular.
Then the mc and his lover burned the towns only cash crop, stole a horse and ran away. And neither of them felt bad about it. MORE STORIES LIKE THIS
