i feel like the knowledge that there are some medical databases with free-to-use 3D scans of various human organs available for 3D printing would have drastically reduced tumblrs amount of bone stealing scandals. plus you can make ones that glow in the dark.

If you don’t have a 3D printer, check the website of your local library to see if they do! If you’re in college, your university’s libraries could have one too! They’ll likely have info on how to submit a print to their services and how/where you could find them.

Oh, and so you don't get surprised like I did, have an avoid: Hillsdale College is a conservative Christian site and not a valid MOOC place. me and coworker: okay. we're getting rid of a ton of old records. they're sorted into price piles, you just need to write down the price and stick them to the record sleeve. if it doesn't have a sleeve, do not stick it to the vinyl bit, because the adhesive gunks up the grooves and affects how they play. okay?

he did about 50 of them like this lmao. he's 16 doing this high school community service hours and had no idea what a record is, and also has never used a cd. he's a full digital kid. as my coworker said while telling me this: "in case you wanted to feel old today."
not a big deal because there's 2 thousand+, as this ominous note left for me says:
no, there's absolutely no way someone would (or should) be fired over something like this, it's just a mistake a child made. also he's a volunteer at the library, not an employee.
and none! i'm in charge of spring cleaning the library basement and these are records that have been in there probably near as long as i've been alive. since there's thousands and we have no way to tell if they work or not (scuffed and dusty and warped as some of them are), the vast majority were free, the rest were 25¢/50¢ depending on the size. resellers came and snatched up anything of value, the rest got picked over, and now all the remainders are going to a local high school art department. some are gonna get melted into bowls, some are going to be painted on, but most are going to be cut up and painted to use as mosaic tiles in projects!
also i read in the notes a couple people either asking how the staple got in/didn't break the record. having now personally stapled a couple records (and a cd!) i can tell you: goes in with surprising ease, except the super old brittle ones (shellac?), they just explode. cd was harder. tried to play it hoping it would make some cool noises but it just didn't do anything at all.
products are so bad now that i have to do approximately 8 hours of research before i buy anything
Seriously, if you're planning to spend a coupla hundred bucks on an appliance, or thousands for a car, spend $4 for a month of Consumer Reports (consumerreports.org).
They're a not-for-profit consumers union, dedicated to fair and honest reviews of everything people buy. Totally worth the membership.
And yeah, if money is tight you can join for a month then cancel the membership easily when you're done with your research.
Also check to see if your local public library has a subscription, either in print or digital format (might be listed as a database rather than a magazine - that's the case at my library in Canada).
Most libraries will provide access to CR, either in print or digital format. The digital archives are what you want when researching a specific product, since they cover different areas each issue.

One of the most jarring moments of my university education was in a physics class when I was given a device that measures gravity and was told “this cost the university sixteen thousand dollars, but the only glass blower in the world who could make the glass springs inside it died so it’s literally irreplaceable. If you drop it those springs will shatter. Go fuck around with it for a day and take some measurements”
In the UK there's a thing called the endangered crafts list which I highly recommend if you fancy discovering some crafts you never even knew existed. Scientific and optical instrument making is considered 'critically endangered' and glassworking (scientific glassware) is just considered endangered, which is for 'crafts with a shrinking market share, an ageing demographic or crafts with a declining number of practitioners.' There's some other crafts in that category which are easier to teach yourself or go to classes on that list, like lithography, marbling or block printing on fabric, so it might be worth considering those if you're looking for something to try.
The people who say shit like "I don't dream about labour" when asked about their dream job make me sad. It's not their fault and it's an obvious conclusion to come to in the environment that we live in, but they really do seem to make no difference between work, and being exploited. You do want to work, it is inherent human nature to want to do things, you just don't want to slave for shit wages while making profit for someone else.
If art wasn't an option and I didn't have to worry about being profitable, I know what I would be doing: Keep a little shop selling secondhand-thirdhand buttons and buckles.
Thrift shops and secondhand stores could dump (or sell, whatever) their unsold and unwanted goods to me, and I could spend all day going through the heaps and picking them apart, plucking the still-perfectly-good buttons, zippers and buckles out of discarded things with threadbare fabrics and sell them.
Probably also making those little trinket storage boxes out of hollowed-out books. By hollowing out books that nobody wanted or read.
