i’m going to shatter you like glass
still can’t get over how in birdbox the main characters casually speculate how north korea or iran is behind all the scary bullshit like wow america’s imperialist propaganda never stops
the shameless nerve of american media to smear countries that have no evidence of using biochem weapons when america is the biggest perpetrator of bio-warfare on the globe
Plus one of the main characters being an army vet and sharing his lovely stories of how sweet and lovely US soldiers are.

holy shit this article
“The documents reveal for the first time the vast scale of US government control in Hollywood, including the ability to manipulate scripts or even prevent films too critical of the Pentagon from being made — not to mention influencing some of the most popular film franchises in recent years.
This raises new questions not only about the way censorship works in the modern entertainment industry, but also about Hollywood’s little known role as a propaganda machine for the US national security apparatus.”
#2, Brute?
I made the ugliest noise.
It’s not even March. It’s literally more than 6 months till the ides of March. Why.
TODAY
Despite every moment of life being indescribably precious and a wondrous mystery, I will spend it caring about dividends and how many rental properties I have.
Rich people are truly dead inside.
I can't imagine caring this much about numbers that absolutely will never impact my life. This person is making more in passive income than I've ever made in my life and he's just like "but but I need more :(".
I mean, fuck that guy, but psychologically it's interesting.
Some desperate remnant of his soul knows what he needs. As soon as his debt is cleared, he goes on to live what many would call an utterly charmed life: working no more than 20 hours a week, travelling and spending time with friends (which he, at $150,000 a year and no mortgage, has ample money to do). He has a loving relationship also.
But his brain is so rotten that he cannot understand happiness anymore. He is incapable of conceptualising it other than in money.
A man who has everything except the ability to feel it.
How poetic.
But fuck that guy.
I want to hit this man.
I want to rob this man.
Meow appears beside Rogue, holding a sign: "Heist? Heist."
This man is so so so close to realizing a fundamental truth to how humans operate, but I genuinely don’t think he’s going to get there. Although I’m not sure he realizes it this man views the money he earns as a direct translation of his sense of personal achievement and engagement.
Which means that when he says he regrets the months he didn’t pick up more hours to earn more money, what he’s describing here is boredom. He’s doing it in the crassest, shallowest, most income-obsessed and unattainable for most of us way possible, yes. But this man is expressing that once he achieved a certain financial goal he relaxed, enjoyed himself, got bored, realized on some level he was understimulated, and then started working more hours to meet whatever stimulated activity threshold he personally needs.
This is infuriating because this man experienced the counter-argument to that nonsensical talking point that if we meet people’s financial needs with a universal basic income they’ll grow lazy and won't do anything.
Anyone trying to develop $200,000 in passive annual income is not working three minimum-wage jobs to live paycheck-to-paycheck. This man’s basic financial needs were met. Working more hours to make more money is just his own personal code for ‘I still needed to use my mind to do things’ (using what might be the only metric of personal achievement he might actually have). This man lived the argument for universal basic income and I genuinely don’t think he realizes that. Once his basic income needs were met he still needed to do things to keep himself stimulated and engaged with his own life.
You see a version of this play out with retirees who leave their jobs, go home, and very quickly find themselves in need of new activities or friends or engagements to keep them present and stimulated in their lives. Ensuring someone’s basic financial needs are met doesn’t make them stop doing things, humans don’t work that way.
Reblogging for the psychology lessons
So there’s this artist, Alex Schaefer, who makes a bunch of paintings of Chase Bank burning.
There’s just
so many of these
and I think it’s incredibly funny but
I just read this bit from the artist and
This is a "plein air" painting which means I set up my easel right across the street of this Chase bank in my city and painted it like it had caught fire. The police questioned me on the spot. Three weeks later Homeland Security was knocking on the door to my home. The question they kept asking me was "Do you hate these banks?" I can honestly say yes.
And I just think this is the greatest artist statement I’ve ever read.
Unions are trash. Theyll Destroy a whole company for firing a shitty worker.
unions are the reason you aren’t paid 2.50 an hour with steel beams about to bust ya head open shut up lol
Unions are why you have 5 day, 40 hour full-time work weeks. Unions are why they have to pay you in actual dollars instead of “company credits” that you can only spend at the company-owned stores. Unions are why there are fucking fire exits at your place of work. Unions are why it’s not okay for your supermarket ground beef to be any percentage human.
You think your company pays you out of the goodness of their hearts? Or even out of “market pressure?” The “job market” is a myth perpetuated by the capitalists. Corporations would pay you nothing if they could get away with it. And you argue “oh, but if they paid me nothing I’d just go to another one.” Wrong. Because to maximize profits, they all want to pay you nothing. Corporations exist to maximize profits while reducing risk for investors. It’s part of their entire function to find ways to cut costs as much as possible, and that includes finding ways to pay you nothing.
Unions are your defense against that. You think all a union does is strike? If you pay union dues, a lot of that is spent on lobbyists in various governments reminding your lawmakers that you have rights as a living human being that a corporation should not be able to stomp all over. Unions hire lawyers so that if you’re fired for bullshit reasons, the union can stand up for you against your boss. They’re called unions because workers are uniting to pool resources so that they can stand up to these corporate overlords with more money than God. Unions exist because you might not have the words, resources, or time to fight workplace injustices all by yourself. That’s the whole fucking point.
And if a business shuts down because a union is striking, it’s because the business was abusing people and didn’t deserve to be in business anyway. Don’t make excuses for the corporations. They already have trillions of dollars and a couple million lawyers to do that for themselves. They don’t need your help.
The erasure of labor history from US history curriculum has caused so much fucking damage to this country.
Bosses: If you don’t like how we do things, don’t work here.
Workers: *Go on strike*
Bosses: Wait no not like that
#the only unions that are evil are the police unions
And it’s interesting how mainstream media tends to support unions in police and fire departments, and they’re grudging about teacher’s unions, and actively discredit any other workers union efforts.
You DO need to interrogate your desires when you're a cis lesbian and you need to face your transphobia. Just as we ask white people to interrogate their desires and face their racism, or ask neurotypicals to face their ableism, or men to face their misogyny. As a cis person you benefit from transphobia and you internalize transphobic messages from society -- you need to do active work to work through that.
I have never asked a white woman to consider why they are not attracted to me, called them racist for not being attracted to me, and will never do so. Unlearning racism doesn’t require white women consider me as a sexual partner but that they view me as a person. As all women know, someone can have sex with you and still dehumanize you. Sex is not some ultimate battleground for human rights and framing it in this way is coercive. For example, I have been told that I am not attracted to brown men because they are portrayed as abusive or effeminate in western media and that I could change my mind if I gave them a chance, if I unpacked the internalized racism I bear towards brown men. This type of rhetoric is manipulative and is meant to be so. Unlearning internalized racism doesn’t mean that I consider this man, or any brown man, as a sexual partner but that I consider the ways in which I have been made to feel ashamed of my culture and people, and may have acted in ways that are harmful to others of my background (#notlikeotherdesikids) because of that. Access to someone’s body is not akin to access to better health care or better education or a better quality of life. It’s sad that you view women’s bodies as places of exclusion as opposed to our physical embodiment in the world, inseparable from our selves, and over which we have inalienable rights. There is no cause on earth (whether it be ableism, or racism, or transphobia, or any other cause you can name) that would ever justify sexually harassing women. As brown lesbians, we need to know that it’s wrong that our bodies are consistently made into a battleground. We have a right to exist in the world on our terms.
Derry Girls really nails the whole “living through a major crisis” thing
I will have what she is having
She enunicated this SO PERFECTLY and completely in a single tweet. A whole informed essay in a single tweet. Your fave could never!
Same problem we have with cops. Police are more likely to have certain characteristics and personality flaws not because becoming a cop makes you that way, although that may amplify the effects, but rather, men with these problems gravitate to the position. That’s why so many bullies end up becoming cops
You pointing out the cops means I need to point out; Female bullies tend to go into nursing! A position that puts them in power, and gives them control over people. If you knew a girl in highschool who was just an awful human being but thought she was great? Chances are she went into nursing.
It's not only threatening the profession, it's putting patients' lives at risk.
That addition to this post made me look up one of my worst bullies from school and GUESS WHAT
