Alright I have been enabled so I’m gonna say somethings.

Fatalistic sarcasm is a thing, however, it usually hides deep feelings of insecurity, and whether you consciously recognize this or not, it validates them. Seriously, I used to constantly make jokes about how other people’s work was better than mine, and it did nothing for my self-esteem, it was a tool to deflect from my own feelings of inferiority and it actively worked against me thinking critically about my own and other people’s work. If it was a joke I could put myself down instead of analyzing why someone’s work was better and trying to incorporate that into my own

As someone who took creative writing courses I was constantly surrounded by other brilliant people, if I hung my head in shame every time I read something as good or better than mine I never would have lifted it. 

As someone who has watched a lot of writers with very good idea’s crash and burn I mean it when I say you either develop a healthy sense of respect for your own work or you stop writing. 

There’s three things I really wish more people consider

1. Do you think their work is better because it’s a different style, one that you like? There’s an element to ‘the grass is greener on the other side’, I have seen people work in some amazing styles that I wished to god I could replicate, some I managed, some I never did, but there’s nothing wrong with either. having a different style Is Not the same as having a bad style, each has their own strengths and you can admire one without putting yours down

2. Knowing someone who is a better writer is a blessing and if they knew you were using their work to bring yourself down they would not be happy, mooch off that friend, analyze their work, ask them to edit your shit, as long as you’re not annoying them be shameless about it. the best thing creative writing did for me was give me the confidence to ask people to critic my work and shamelessly better each other for that sharing 

3. People need to normalize being confident in their work, the quality of your work has literally nothing to do with your worth as a person, the quality of your work has nothing to do with your worth as a writer. You can write something really shitty and the only thing I’d say to you is that your trying and I respect you for that

I also don’t like comparing my work to others’ bc it starts to feel almost competitive in a way. It turns to asking “which of these is better?” instead of “what do I like about each of these?”

We’re not competing against each other to see who can bake the best cake, we’re all bringing dishes to a potluck. It’s the community and love for the craft that matter

If we get Chaos along with Vincent's other forms (Hell Masker, Death Gigas) in Revelation, do we think they'll adapt the og version of Chaos or the Dirge of Cerberus version of Chaos

We'll probably get a compromise between the two designs. They already changed Cloud's Bustersword to a meld between CC and OG, and Vincent's whole design is not anything close to either OG or Dirge in Rebirth. I think they are going to try something new for Revelation while incorporating older design elements.

Jenova's design in Ever Crisis is so good! I wish remake had a bit more of the fleshy/organy uglyness that Ever Crisis incorporated from the OG game.

On Lucrecia Crescent and Choice

I want to write up a little analysis about these thoughts I have...one day.

Fandom criticises Lucrecia for her choices. And logically they were bad choices with tragic consequences. But how much blame, for lack of better term, is to be placed on a character, where their choices are basically being stuck between a rock and a hard place?

Lucrecia is looked down upon for choosing Hojo, but how much of this choice was freely given decision-making, and how much was born of mental and emotional anguish, manipulation and being beaten down into submission?

On the other hand, fandom never seems have a little thought go off - why did Ifalna choose to have a child with another man responsible for human experiments? The very thing Lucrecia is hated for, quite deeply in some instances.

Maybe just think about it for a little bit. Gast ran off with a hot lady Cetra to make more Cetras, and left his responsibilities for a life he helped create (Sephiroth) behind. And this is the mark of a good husband and father?

Meanwhile a woman who never got to hold her son, but is drowning in despair at the consequences of her choices, is told she is the same as the abuser who destroyed her son? And the scientist who ran from his responsibilities just because her son was not what he wanted, is the better person here?

Maybe just think about choices and how we percieve characters.

Professor Gast is just as bad as Hojo, if not worse. I despise him more than Hojo because he doesn't acknowledge the atrocities he causes, but Hojo does. Hojo relishes in the suffering; he's unapologetic.

It's incredibly suspicious that one of the two leading men in the Jenova project ended up marrying the last living Ancient and having a child after studying their kind for years. Gast also forms enough of a bond with Sephiroth for him to remember him fondly, too. Gast stuck his finger in every Cetra pie he could find.

It could have been the guilt of his actions that made him choose to form close relationships with whom he believed to be Cetra but either way, his time on the planet after Shin-Ra didn't last very long. Definitely not long enough to be redeemed, anyway.

Usually, in vampire media, the thralled one is the human, lovesick because of the vampire. In Final Fantasy 7, Vincent is the vampire, he's the monster, and yet he is the one possessed by a human. A beautiful, intelligent, coy, and selfish woman.

There is always in some way a wall between Lucrecia and Vincent where they can see each other but never touch. Whether it's real, like the glass in Vincent's experimentation chamber, or metaphorical, like Vincent's and Lucrecia's work at Shinra being substantially different. Neither character can truly explain their feelings fully, so they just sit with them. Vincent has been sitting with his feelings about this woman so long that he objectified her and created this idea of who she is in his head.

Vincent and Lucrecia have a relationship that I could think about for hours. All the mistakes that they made, all the tears that they shed, and their story's conclusion are just irresistible to disect. And I love them both dearly both for and in spite of it.
