What's everyone's Final Fantasy Revelation Party going to look like?
I want to play all characters equally!
I want to mostly play new characters! (Vincent, Cid)
Other (drop it in in the comments/reblogs)
Not sure about how I feel about Vincent immediately wanting to stake Sephiroth in the newest trailer. This is his girl's son. There is so much confliction in the OG with Vincent's dialogue. I hope this is just a one-off used for the trailer, and the important parts of his character are still retained.
I've accepted the fate that Lucrecia and Prof. Gast are going to be absolutely butchered in Final Fantasy VII revelation. Lucrecia will be a victim of Hojo's minipulation, and Gast will be the good soul taken too soon.
Lucrecia is at her best when she is messy, when her actions give room for questioning and debate about why and how she would make the choices she did. Since the OG released each iteration has been slicing away ajency from her character. In the original, when you find her in the cave, she was a vision. She could still move and speak. In Dirge, you see it all from Vincent's perspective, which works well as a biased narrative, but the game isn't without critique. She now can't say more than a sentence, and this time, she's changed to be in a fancy dress trapped in a crystal. Lucy's relationship with Hojo doesn't try and get any more complex, just more comic book evil, as well as her modivation being changed to a new character (Vincent's dad) centers even more of her modivations around a man. Lucrecia's story is not one where she gets a lot of choice in her situation OG or Dirge and by providing little outs for her character to show it gives room for interesting storytelling.
Gast, on the other hand, has a lot less to go off. We don't hear much about him until the Icicle Inn tapes. Only that he was part of the group working on the Jenova Project and that he was idolised by Sephiroth as a child. Gast acts extremely protective over his wife (a Cetra) and has a history of being obsessed with the Cetra, excavating and becoming close with those he believes are. When I first played OG, I didn't see Gast as some good guy just because he's Aeris' dad. I always found his dedication to studying and repeated forming of close relationships with Cetra odd.
With how they messed up Dyne in the last game and how different Aerith and Sephiroth's personalities were from the start of the remakes, I don't think they're going to reimagine them for the better.
i hope they keep dissociative identity disorder angle with alfred but just go about it with more respect and accuracy
Personally, I feel like they should just scrap it.
The whole situation is very messy and honestly I don't know how to feel about this because I don't think there is a way for them to do this in a way that is respectful and accurate to the disorder, because I don't know how they could do it in a way that doesn't tie it to Alfred's villainy and I do fear it's going to turn into yet another instance of people with DID being portrayed as "crazy villains who do wild and violent things because they have DID."
Even if they present Alfred's Alexia alter as a factive/factive introject (which, I have my own doubts about how much research Capcom is going to do into this vs just running with a version consistent with other media portrayals), I worry about how the crossdressing component is going to factor into this.
In a way, I almost feel like it would be better if they just scrapped this idea altogether and maybe just had Alfred hallucinate Alexia was still there or something like that. There is a very fine line between portraying a villain as a person who just so happens to have a mental illness and portraying someone as a villain because they have a mental illness and I think the only piece of media I've seen that actually portrays DID in a remotely respective manner is Jane from the Doom Patrol show-- and that's not definitely not perfect either, don't get me wrong, but at least they made more of an effort to explore things and didn't make her a villain.
I hope they tone it down a bit. Have Claire spy on Alfred wearing Alexia's dress talking to a mirror like he believes he's talking to her, but that's about as far as I'd go. I really hope they play more on the delusional admiration/toxic AlfredxAlexia relationship side to Alred's character in this reimagining than the other stuff.
Code Veronica Remake Reveal Trailer Breakdown
You read that right, it's official: Code Veronica is being remade at long last! This was something we've been waiting for for a while, but they finally announced it at SGF and the reveal trailer is honestly longer than I thought it would be. There isn't too too much to speculate about at this point since most of its pretty contained, but there are certainly some interesting little details and things for me to yap about.
The trailer kicks off with some gorgeous shots of a town in Paris, and it looks like the remake is sticking with the timeline as expected, so we've got Paris in December 1998. Someone, likely one of the Redfields (and probably Claire specifically since the car is red) drives past "Cafe du Parapluie" which translate to 'Umbrella Cafe' in English... lol.
Interestingly enough, the vast majority of the trailer is shown in first person from Claire's perspective-- personally, I hope we're not locked into FP because I don't like the FP RE games, but I suspect it may have a mechanic similar to Requiem where you have the option of switching between 1st and 3rd. She follows the directions to a hotel and buzzes in where she's greeted by an old woman and we then learn Chris is staying on the 3rd floor in this hotel.
The old woman tells Claire that Chris is "quite odd" and then leads her into Chris' (seemingly abandoned) hotel room which is... a complete disaster. True to OG Chris, this Chris is also a slop and he's got shit everywhere. Clothes thrown over the couch, items scattered around, cameras set out (so it looks like Chris may have been surveilling someone from his hotel room?), the ash tray is full, and there's pills scattered around too (kinda reminds me of Jill's apartment from 3R). There isn't enough detail for me to make out what kind of pills there are, but it certainly paints the picture that Chris isn't doing so hot in the aftermath of everything. The old lady tells Claire that "it's like a boulder rolled through here"-- very obvious reference to Chris' future boulder-punching days lol.
In a very reminiscent manner to Grace exploring the Wrenwood Hotel, a knock on the door interrupts Claire, but there's no one outside... or so it seems. But right as she opens the door, she gets nabbed. Even with the image brightened, its still too hard to see who this is or what they look like, but it appears they grabbed her and covered her mouth.
As is shown a bit later in the trailer, the guy grabs her and holds what appears to be a giant ass dagger to her-- from the voice, this clearly isn't Wesker, but the guy does wear black leather gloves and knows who she is. We our first shot of Claire's face here too, which is interesting to me. Definitely appears to be based on her 2R model, but it does look like some edits were made. Maybe I'm losing it but it seems like her eyes and lips in particular were altered.
After that, the action kicks off and we get some really fast shots cut in as the music swells. With most of them, its too difficult to make out what they are of since a lot of its just little details but I did find this guy interesting, especially given his uniform...
We even get to see some of Rockfort Island it seems, with choppers flying over the sea to the island.
And then we get this guy, or who I'm assuming is a guy, in a hoodie. We really don't have anything to go on here because its a shot from behind and super dark, but if you pause it at just the right second, it looks like we can make out some red-brown hair. I'm going to guess this is probably Steve given the hair color, but it's possible this is Chris too and maybe it just looks like more of a red due to the lighting.
And then we get to see the Ashford Estate in all its glory, complete with a very quick glimpse of who I'm going to assume is probably Alfred.
Our final shot is Claire investigating some room. I think this may be at the Umbrella facility since one of the zombies that attacks her is wearing an Umbrella logo pin.
And now to address the elephant in the room: they did drop 'Code' from the title. I don't really have too many feelings about this-- the title matters significantly less to me than the overall plot and content of the game. But I must say the graphics are fucking stunning here. Is it just me, or does it look better than Requiem in terms of graphics? Hopefully that's not too controversial to say. Requiem is beautiful but somehow CVR looks even more beautiful to me.
They already seem to be advertising this as not being an exact 1:1 remake (and none of the remake ever were 1:1, but some like 4R were significantly closer to the OG than others like 2R) since Capcom does specify a "reimagined storyline" but honestly I'm down for this. I'm interested to see where this is gonna go.
So stunning!!
mia knew her husband didn't leave the baker house alive because, well, just look at him. but he hasn't hurt her. he refuses to hurt her. and she isn't going to be the one to tell him that he should.
the BSAA cautiously backing her plan to just... cover the mirrors. only print photos where you can't quite see his face. keep him busy enough he doesn't linger on his reflection in his phone screen - or maybe he's just conveniently nervous enough about the outside world that he doesn't look anymore.
mia's husband is a monster, but he's a gentle one.
is it cruel to let him keep thinking he's human? would it be crueller to put him down like a dog? he never would've been this way if not for mia. she wills the back of her neck to stop prickling every time he looks in her direction because the mould wearing her husband's skin is only there because he loves her - or loved her? she isn't sure. she doesn't know if ethan is still ethan - she sure wasn't herself when the mould took her. but he's different.
and regardless - ethan loved her, and whatever walks around as ethan now loves her just the same. so does it matter, really?
I think about Harry Mason’s situation so often. It’s the way Harry was always paranoid of something evil taking Cheryl away from him, and when she was stolen, the bigger picture of it was so much more harrowing than he could’ve possibly conceptualized. I can’t imagine being a parent and losing your child in such a tragic and surreal way. Learning your little girl was never actually a full person, her getting absorbed and turned into an unexplainable being, never even getting to say goodbye…
Cheryl’s life was inconsequential, she was never supposed to exist. But of course Harry didn’t see her like that, she was his baby. And because of circumstances he never even knew about, she was now gone forever, replaced by a child that was created as an outcome from her and Alessa’s pain and suffering. He takes her from the hands of the incubator and is helpless as he’s forced to leave her to die. Forced to leave the person who Cheryl was still apart of, sealing the fact he’ll never see her again; in the form he last saw her in nor the person she’s disappeared into.
I can’t begin to understand the grief.

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.
btw this is maybe the single most key distinguishing feature of the terfy strains of radical feminism, the seed all the rest of it springs out of: they have absolutely no faith in the ability of feminism to actually destroy patriarchy. they do not think feminism can truly build a better world. they cannot really even imagine that possibility. they think patriarchy is an inevitable natural consequence of unchangeable biological facts, and therefore the goal of feminism can only be to mitigate the worst effects of patriarchy, not to get rid of it.
they can imagine a society where women get some designated safe spaces without men around. they cannot imagine a society where the presence of men is not inherently a danger to women.
“Frances and I were considering attending a Lesbian/Feminist conference this summer, when we were notified that no boys over ten were allowed. This presented logistic as well as philosophical problems for us, and we sent the following letter: Sisters: Ten years as an interracial lesbian couple has taught us both the dangers of an oversimplified approach to the nature and solutions of any oppression, as well as the danger inherent in an incomplete vision. Our thirteen-year-old son represents as much hope for our future world as does our fifteen-year-old daughter, and we are not willing to abandon him to the killing streets of New York City while we journey west to help form a Lesbian-Feminist vision of the future world in which we can all survive and flourish.”
— Audre Lorde, Sister Outsider: “Man Child: A Black Lesbian Feminist’s Response." (This essay in particular was apparently first published in 19-fucking-79, which is how long this conversation's been going on.)
I feel kinda slow only realising this now, but… the beginnings to The Wretched Automatons and Song of the Ancients Fate (Devola and Popola's boss fight song) are quite similar. And guess what Devola and Popola are! Androids! Which are self running machines just like automatons!!!
dont trace reference images. dont even LOOK at reference images. in fact, don't ever look at anything that exists in the world, in person or in photos or in videos, even when you're not drawing, because you will still be able to use the memories of what something looks like as a reference when you're drawing it later. yes that includes yourself. destroy all the mirrors in your house. don't look down at your hands or feet. don't look. close your eyes. close them tight. forget everything. it's okay, embrace the darkness. just forget.
who remembers that one time on twitter where someone tried to call an artist out for 'tracing' an ice skating pose and when the artist said they didn't trace, they referenced, the accuser called it 'eye tracing'
