Hey pals! It was a good run.
Hi Tumblr. Wow it has been a long time. I’ve had this Tumblr account and blog under many names for over 6 years, joined Tumblr all the way back in 2011. It’s been with me through a large chunk of my adolescent development: high school, coming to terms with and coming out, depression, college applications and admissions, dramatic weight loss and personal growth, fledgeling efforts at dating, longer relationships, almost the entirety of my college career, rough patches, and good times. All of that abstractly chronicled and accompanied by tens of thousands of posts, multitudes of time scrolling, and several phases and themes drawing from humor, politics, social justice, queer culture, aesthetics, fandom, mood journaling, and more. It’s been a lot.
After all this time, development, and growth, it’s time for a change. While I’d love nothing more than to quit Tumblr and all social media completely, I think some more gradual or corrective measures are more appropriate, augmenting the way I use Tumblr. There’s certainly still a place for engaging with and enjoying positive content — though perhaps less pervasively, less seriously, and with less obstruction to productivity. So, I’m starting fresh. I can’t quite bring myself to purge this account and it’s history, nor to go through the labors of removing the old blogs I follow and curating a new set of blogs to follow, so I’ve made a new, fresh account and will be leaving this one as is to catalog what was.
For those of you who have any sort of investment in my blog (wild notion, really), I can now be found at aesethetic.tumblr.com. If you’ve just recently followed me, I appreciate it. If you’ve followed me throughout the years and lived through it all: sethsthetic, kingdranite, gaycelebi, gaystarmie, bohemianpenguin, and the multitude of other cringeworthy blog names (particularly the ‘wordy hipster phrase’ era) that I cant remember, then I love you greatly and also yikes.
Goodbye, Tumblr 2011-2017. Rest in Pieces and One Singular Yike.
