The process of making my cat quilt
I don't usually post my non-fandom craft stuff but I worked for a long time on this tablecloth so I wanted to show it off😌

Cotton fabric [31x37 inches] -by me
Landscape embroidery by Carolina Torres
Hey i’m a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. I’ve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. I’ll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

Updated just now with new hand sewing resources (mainly buttonholes) and textbook pdfs on fashion history, fashion illustration, and thinking through designs!
OP I owe you my life
OP you are the greatest person currently in my life. You beautiful, thoughtful creature.
You are a saint thank you so much

The Stunning Astronomical Beadwork of Native Artist Margaret Nazon
Margaret Nazon has spent the past decade building intricate beadwork depictions of outer space. The colorful artworks balance representational and stylized aesthetics set on black fabric backgrounds to depict galaxies, planets, nebulae, and other astronomical phenomena.
Initially inspired by Hubble space telescope images, Nazon’s celestial renderings are part of a lifelong interest in beading. In an interview with Glenbow, the artist shared that she began beading at age 10, but found the density of traditional beadwork to be tedious.
The abstract nature of celestial images allows Nazon to be more interpretive and incorporate different materials like caribou bones and willow seeds that have location-specific or cultural significance. Nazon is Tsiigehtchic, part of the Gwich’in community in what is now the Northwest Territories of Canada. The artist explained that because she is retired, she is able to dedicate significant time to beading, and often rises at 4:30am to begin working. Nazon plans to continue experimenting, including merging her abstract beadwork with her seamstress skills to create artfully embellished apparel.
Nazon’s artwork was most recently exhibited at Glenbow in a group show, Cosmos, and A Beaded Universe at Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. You can read more about her in the Glenbow interview, and explore Nazon’s portfolio on her website.

Forever finding new holes in my mom's favorite sweater
Hyped AF to try visible mending in…. 8 days? YEAH 8 DAYS!
I initially thought these were paint splotches. What a great effect they give. Good job!
Well I’m donating some patches I’ve made to the sexual health carnival my wife is doing tomorrow! Night shift leaves me with idle hands too often so I really have been cracking down on my patch game.
There are more than this, I have one nearly finished in my little hobby bag and like. Several more that ARE finished that I forgot about.
Anyway I do commissions if you wanted a little cross stitch patch 👉🏻👈🏻 here’s a few finished ones for your consideration:
LOOK AT MY WIFE'S PATCHES
The quilted progress pride pillowcase is finished! Finally used all those fancy decorative stitches my sewing machine has. They are indeed very decorative. First time actually finishing a quilt and being happy with it. Yes, it's a little bubbly and wonky, but I don't care. Because it's a pillowcase, nobody would notice if it were all perfectly neat. The filling is a cobbled together bunch of floof from all the pillows my dog has torn up in the past. Don't worry, she won't get this one.
Based on my own pattern, which is in turn based on the progress pride flag design by Valentino Vecchietti.
I feel like a dumbass, I am enlightened, and if I’m ever physically capable of sewing again, I am so doing this.
(use Neodymium magnets, guys. Might have to fight to pull them off the scissors afterwards but they won’t fall off while you’re cutting)
Having a couple strong magnets like this tucked in a little plastic end cap (like for mid size pvc pipes!) with a layer of tough, dark cloth over it can also be a really good way to collect magnetic metal scraps and staples if you're doing upholstery or working with staples :3

Post edited to add the mini mushroom friends pattern! As always, if you are seeing this post and it’s been a while since I shared this update, it’s worth checking back to the original post to see if I’ve added any more pattern links. I’ll update the original post every time I share a new free pattern
Get yourself a fabric store that will light your fabric on fire for you
No but legit I asked what the fiber content of something was and the guy didn’t know so he cut a chunk off and lit it on fire and felt the ashes and was like. Yeah this is mostly cotton with a lil bit of silk. And that was the moment I knew. This is it. This is the fabric store for me. Also that guy is marriage material. Not for me but damn some person is gonna be so happy with him.
Ok but this is actually one of the easiest ways to tell what something is made of! I did a textiles degree and one day as part of a class we all went outside with a pile of scrap fabric and set fire to the little pieces and recorded how they burned. We were given a chart that looked something like this to tell what each fabric was (it gets a little tricky is it’s a mix of fabrics though). Why did we do this? There is very little regulation in the textiles industry so a lot of materials are mislabelled as something they aren’t and sold for more than they should be, also sometimes people buy fabric second hand or discounted which doesn’t have any label at all. If you have a fabric you are having doubts about, cut a tiny piece off and do the burn test and you should know pretty fast what you are dealing with. Anyways your fabric store should be lighting things on fire because this means that they are actually checking what the fabrics are and aren’t trying to pass cheap stuff off as more expensive than it is.
Ooh! I knew it was a standard test but I hadn’t seen a chart as detailed as this thank you!
this is just Phasmophobia for people who sew?
finished a recent sewing project :) it’s a bit lopsided but it’s my first time doing something like this!
this messed up vintage cat sewing pattern has tormented me since i saw it & like some other folks have done in that post - i tried my hand at tweaking the pattern to resemble the illustration (and my personal tastes) a little more. i've ended up with this, which i have only tested at a small scale and not this final version exactly (where i have done such things as further widening the cheeks and finalizing the leg shapes.) i bestow it upon you nice folks now 👐
go forth and make weird little beanbag kittens! pls show me if you do!
Cutie cat scraps project 💗
I saw pill bugs on here a few weeks ago and really wanted to make my own! The pattern is a bit rough but I hope it works (I tried to get it perfect for like a week before calling it good enough).
Just print out (or copy from a screen) the first page and cut out the pattern pieces. Hopefully the pictures on page two will help but if not I will do my best to answer any questions!
Hope you enjoy and make your own lil isopod friend!
If anyone makes this, I would love to see pictures 💕
