It’s 2025. BBC Sherlock ended 8 years ago. The last season was so bad the fans didn’t even want to talk about it when it came out. Occasionally a post resurfaces where we all laugh at struggling to plug our phones in and being called alcoholics. Every time, there are more and more people in the comments who don’t get the joke. There are two currently airing Sherlock Holmes audio dramas that both portray a queer Holmes (as well as several other excellent queer characters), and one of them now has Holmes and Watson in a canonical romantic relationship. There’s an adorable crowdfunded short film where Watson plans Holmes’ birthday party and they flirt with each other, share a bed, plan their retirement, and kiss on the mouth. A video game about retired beekeeper Holmes just released where he arranges a romantic picnic so he can finally tell Watson how he feels. A popular graphic novelist just released the first part of a queer comic book retelling of the complete Holmes canon and had to do several rounds of preorders because she kept selling out too fast. Sherlock is garbage and here’s why has 15 million views on YouTube. Nature is healing. ❤️🐝

Now that I’ve finished The Good Place, I’d love to talk about Chidi and Eleanor. I dont have some sort of analysis of their relationship but more so the way the show treated it. I loved how consistent their characterization was even when they were together. I’ve watched so many shows, particularly sitcoms, where you root for two characters to get together the whole time, and then as soon as they do they’re dynamic is entirely ruined. I’m going to use Gilmore Girls as an example because I wanted Luke and Lorelai together so bad for so long, and then as soon as they were together, they were just so different. They didn’t have the Luke-and-Lorelai dynamic anymore, they were very different people around each other. Not to say that can’t be true of real life, but it took away from what people (people being me but probably some others too) loved about the characters together. For Eleanor and Chidi, they mostly retained their original dynamic. Eleanor didn’t stop being herself, Chidi didn’t stop being himself, they just were more open about their feelings for each other. None of the banter between them went away, they didn’t act all the differently towards each other than before. This may be helped by the fact that we saw so many versions of them that this was just one more, but the show writers have proved their expert writing. They simply built upon the relationship instead of changing it entirely, and for that I commend them.

Book Sherlock did the same exact thing with a watch, and also once declared with perfect crrtainty that a man's wife didn't love him due to the state of his hat, because clearly that was the ONLY possible explanation.

The purpose of a defence attorney is to make sure the police have done their job. The prosecution says "they did the thing" and the defence says "well can you prove it?" and if they can't, the defendant goes free because the prosecution fucked up.

All they have to do is their job. As long as they don't fuck up doing ther job, the guilty will go to prison. The reason the guilty go free so often is because the police are constantly fucking up and not doing their damn job.

It's very telling that these people can't really conceive of a situation where they might be wrongfully arrested for something and labeled "very problematic and guilty" and may, in fact, need exactly the kind of legal representation that they're side-eyeing. Even in the realm of thought experiments there are the categorically ""problematic"" and they can't even imagine a world where they could ever be lumped in with them, even wrongfully, because surely people would OBVIOUSLY know they're innocent, surely this only happens to Others
