Not much is known about Oarfish. Their maximum length is debatable, though there are reports of specimen up to 56 ft long. They live at great depths, and are rarely observed alive. Here’s a relatively small one:

look how excited everyone is. well, everyone but the fish. oh, fun fact! they can self-amputate up to 3/4th of their body. lizard style. 

Historically, Oarfish have been described as sea serpents, and are probably responsible for a fair portion of myths. In Japanese folklore, their appearance portends earthquakes. Though rarely seen, Oarfish live in every ocean. All around the world. Everywhere. No matter what coastline you’re on, they’re always there. Just a few thousand feet below water. Waiting.

tags: there’s a difference between preferring or needing to rest rather than doing certain types of work, and feeling entitled to other people doing that labor for you. preferring to do less labor in an economy where workers are already more productive and more underpaid than ever? fine. preferring not to do household chores and living with more mess instead of cleaning? i dont relate, but ultimately that’s your choice (assuming it’s a choice and not a sacrific you’re making bc of executive dysfunction/disability/exhaustion/lack of time etc). preferring not to do household chores bc you expect someone else (a partner etc) to do your share? We need people who experience these conditions firsthand to be intimately involved in the medical research and treatment development.

We need neurodivegent people to be consulted and heard at every level of research.

And it is incredibly insulting that so many neurodivergent students enter these fields because of their neurodivergencies, only to find that their own medical history--history which gives them firsthand insight and expertise--gets used by the system to discredit and discount them.

Recruit more neurodivegent researchers to neurodivergency research.
