Okay, this is awful, but it appeals to my weird sense of humor. And it's my tumblr.
i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
I remember walking down the street and seeing a sign protesting George W. Bush’s war on Iraq, so I think that.
The first I remember? The Challenger explosion.
The first news story that changed me was the same year. Ehen I was 9 years old, I obsessively watched Lt. Col. Oliver North testifying about the Iran-Contra affair whenever I was allowed to watch C-SPAN. Learning that my government was actively lying to me before I was in double digits deeply affected me as a human.
Oat milk is made by milking goats and then putting the milk through a fine filter to extract all the "G"s
I heard thats where they get the "G"s for cell phone service
Adam Frankenstein's debut novel about an unhinged goth queen who fucks in graveyards and keeps her love's calcified heart
I would read this.
Some one write it.
Seriously, the Creation having broken free from Dr. Frankenstein's control, finding out novels exist, and pouring out his raw desires onto the page for several deranged and underslept weeks until it looks sort of like the novels he has found and read.
He takes it to a publisher, who recognizes both quality and incipient controversy when they see it, it gets published and turns into the hit of the decade.
He's propelled into fame and stardom and polite society, which he now has to figure out how to navigate. Half the city is in love with him, a solid third of it is convinced he's the end of civilization as we know it, and there's the minor detail that he's a walking reanimated corpse with the scars to prove it and no inherent social skills beyond those imparted to him by his mad-scientist creator. He's like if a book on Victorian social etiquette rode a breathing zombie to work and took ketamine, meth, and a hefty dose of sex pollen on the way.
Somewhere within the world of ball gowns and small talk and angry crowds that only don't have pitchforks because they're gentlemen, not peasants, there is a girl who would absolutely be down to fuck him in graveyards and keep his heart if he were to die. He just has to find her.
Unfortunately, there is also a certain Doctor Frankenstein, who does not, as a habit, read novels, but certain things about this new author he keeps hearing about are ringing alarm bells in his head like it's Notre Dame on Easter Sunday, and he has a duty to fulfill.
(There may or may not be also a certain Mr. Doyle, who is grateful enough to have been rescued from the popularity of his own literary superstar to fistfight a doctor to protect him. I am taking every liberty possible with the time period, so the Brontes can be here too and Mary Shelley can be Adam's girl if desired.)
Murder is scary bc a lot of video games are about doing murders, so if someone does murders irl then it could lead to them becoming a gamer. You're literally becoming desensitized to gaming when you do murders.
just witnessed something devastating
guy on the subway with one ear pierced, little gold hoop. other guy on the subway very quickly and subtly googling "which one is the gay ear". it is not the gay ear. visible disappointment on his face as he puts his phone away.
Even in a post-capitalist, post-consumerist world, you still need to produce goods, as a result of this, you need factories because it is more effective to have a few people making a lot of clothes in a factory than every woman being forced to sit down and spin wool all day.
The issue with factories is poor wages, unsafe working conditions and environmental impact, all of which can be fixed through things like regulatory bodies and unions, the issue is not the fact that goods are no longer all made at home
you can have a guild-owned, guild-run, sustainable and ethical small- to mid-size clothing factory. or laundromat. or kitchen. all of these once-domestic tasks can become industrialized without the capitalism and greed.
the factory isn't evil. it's a building full of machines and materials.
The chicken chain was told to "cluck off" the last time it tried to move into the UK. This time, it hired bigger guns.
me: "have they tried not being fucking ignorant religious bigots?"
article: “I suspect that a bit of the steam has gone out of the LGBT thing,” Backman told the right-wing outlet, staying ahead of the issue. “There may be the odd protester, but if they have got armies of PR people laser-focused on that then I suspect it may be OK.”
me: no surprises there... fuck them
sandwich recipe
We go through a lot of pickles here and this recipe is a good way to use leftover brine.
The thing that pisses me off the most though is the fact I know so many LGBTQ+ individuals that still go there, and they are surprised when I actually don't. It's literally like that tweet.
i am a filthy casual at birds but man!!! birds are so cool they come in so many shapes and they have such marvelous colors and patterns
what a great flavor of creature. 11/10 would share planet with again

By the way, if any of you have older fics you'd like to be reblogged to the archive, feel free to tag this blog! While newer fics tend to take priority, the q runs empty a lot and I'd like to fill it more often.
Please only tag once per fic, and do not spam.
We've arrived on Hoth and met the charming Lt. Iresso. I can tell why so many people like him, he seems very nice ^^
Off to fight the invincible pirate.
It's a mutiny! Or a very sad attempt, at least.
Mutiny pt. 2. Some people just don't learn.
I had to stop and look at this cutie. I will 100% be doing the tauntaun questline at some point, I just love these little guys!
I thought he went down a little too easy the first time. But now I know his secret. It did make for a fun boss fight.
We almost have the whole crew now :) I was a little bit surprised that the politicians are still my "guests", but I don't mind.
I really like how different the Consular's story is from the Knight's. I've been getting through it pretty swiftly, which is in part because I stick to the class story and don't run the flashpoints with Narressia, but also because I haven't encountered a single boring moment yet. Two chapters in, I'm really loving it.
Hi, its me. The warmest creature in the world. I love you. Im the warmest creature in the world and I love you so much and I need to be in your lap right now. Yes, I know about the heat wave. That's okay though because I was already the warmest creature in the world so I don't mind. I love you and you need to let me sleep in your lap right now. I'm soooo warm and I love you sooo much. If you say no you'll be saying no to a thing that love you. Let me sleep in your lap. When I fall asleep I get warmer. I love you
I'm 400k words deep into my current fanfic and it's for a ship where I am the single-paddling kayaker (AKA, no one else ships it and maybe never will). I figured that people might show up and like it well enough, but I also believed that I would not get much more than a handful of kudos and less than ten comments. I understand it's a huge commitment to read something about— *checks notes* five normal books long (oh god) featuring a pairing no one else had brought up before. I knew no one shared my vision.
That is, until I gained a dedicated reader, who, without fail, visits every new chapter with extreme furor and excitement. It makes my day every single time seeing that little "(1)" next to my inbox. I was losing motivation to post updates until she showed up somewhere around chapter 35 like a lighthouse in the middle of a raging seastorm. My fic has 70+ comments now, and they are mainly just me and her for the most part.
This gif is how I feel when I'm editing now. The fic is for her... Only 12 chapters left... We're going to finish this journey.
If there is an on-going longfic you're reading right now, please leave a comment telling the author how much you are enjoying it! I promise it will make their day!
