hey, generally speaking i am pro-pirating but there is post going around with a free version of Maus by Art Spiegelman on a google doc and i am genuinely asking you all to not reblog it. Art Spiegelman is still alive. he still makes money off of Maus. and what is being monetized is his generational trauma as the son of a holocaust survivor. please either buy Maus or get it from the library (libraries also benefit the author and when more people request or check out a book it communicates to the library that they need more copies). pirating Maus is very different than pirating a marvel movie or reading a google doc of a book no longer in print. please use critical thinking.
Lin Codega, Rowan Zeoli, and Chase Carter are launching their own independent TTRPG journalism site. I am SO thrilled these folks are going to take a stab at earnest, genuine RPG coverage that's not hampered by corporate interests. Please check out Rascal News!
it's lovely to see this support! thank you all so much, and if you ever has a story or see somethign you want us to write/report on: [email protected]
I've had my eye on a kickstarter that's been "coming soon" for about 3 months.
I've gone from hyped, to forgetting all about it, to excitededly remembering about it, only to find it's still listed as an upcoming project.
It just makes me wonder how early is too early, to make a Kickstarter page.
Like, I also get annoyed when videogames, films and TV shows get announced too far out, it is hard to keep interested when you're waiting so long.
This Halloween month I've been watching horror films.
I know, this doesn't surprise any one who knows me, spooky things are my jam.
And for those who really know me, 2011-ish I watched a different zombie film every day through out October.
The big difference between then and now, for the zombie films I wrote a review for my now long defunct blog.
This month, I've just been making a note on what I've watched in a twitter/bluesky thread, no reviews, no plot synopsis, just the film.
Currently watching film 84.
It occurred to me this morning that if I really tried I could get to 100 before the end of Tuesday but I don't think I shall.
I think I'll just watch until I am done, and see about beating the total next year.
The rules have been simple, I pick films at random through the services I have available.
I am not allowed to select a film I know I have seen.
I am not allowed to seek out specific films I want to see.
I am allowed to build a playlist to queue up films for later.
If I put on a film I have seen, but didn't recall the name, I have to watch it regardless of how unmemorable it might be.
It has been a *challenge* trying to keep interest, I have watched some royal trash, but also some hidden gems.
Though I will be honest, I will enjoy getting to watch what I want, when I want again.
So far, I have only prematurely ended one film, that wasn't very horror, and was a sequel to another film I didn't have access to.
smthing i can just never believe when ppl (mostly twitter users) complain about a girl character being made to look 'mannish' or 'masculine' and talk about the death of femininity and every time i get excited and think 'oh okay cool did we get a butch character or-' and its literally jusg a regular fucking woman like you would see at the grocery store. like jusyt a normal woman
i think those people would have an aneurysm and die if they saw how actresses were styled in the 70s/80s/90s……
not that these women are looking super masc lol but the parameters for “acceptable female appearance” in both media and everyday life have indisputably narrowed over the past couple decades :|
Oh this topic, let me tell you..
I used to be a support worker for an autistic guy, who always teetered on the edge of an MRA rabbithole.
His film interests? Very accurately depicted in the above image, he would talk for hours about loving Ellen Ripley, or Sarah Conner, but anything modern? It was a constant lament about making women masculine, or emasculating men.
And I would tell him, the arguments he's listening to would have said the exact same thing about the things and characters he loved in these films.
It was a constant struggle trying to get him not to listen to voices that existed solely to be angry about things.
ORC FACTS
I love you so much
Having had a rather cool summer this year (no complaints from me on this) I ditched my plans for any real homebrew.
Instead I've taken to producing small batch ciders, to see if I get any good results.
Each week I take a fruit, and apples and make about 3 or 4 bottles with of cider.
This is solely just a small fun thing.
Anyhow, here's a picture showing the small bottles worth of dark cherry (on the left) and the suitably labelled raspberry (on the right)
Maybe I'll see about making a dark ale for the Christmas period, but right now, I've no big plans for it.
I really hate that pixel art is becoming associated with NFTs, pixel art rules
Maybe I should just make the opposite of an NFT, like I dunno, just a cute pixel art goblin anyone can right click+save for free and keep it forever and now it's theirs
You can put a hat on it too if you like
I’m totally on board. I’d like to propose a name for him: Nifty the Goblin.
I love it, I'll try to whip something up when I'm feeling inspired
...
...[BURSTS THROUGH THE WALL LIKE THE KOOL-AID MAN] HELLO, YES, HI, ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT CREATIVE COMMONS ART PROJECTS?!
...I mean, yeah, these sorts of opposite-of-NFTs Open Source Art things are something I dedicate a lot of brainspace to, and I actually have some suggestions!
Firstly, if you wanna do that, you’d probably want to use one of the organization Creative Commons’ licenses, to make the “anyone can use/save/alter it” official and legally binding, presumably one of their looser ones like CC-BY or CC0.
Secondly, honestly, this is a rad idea, something like Open Game Art’s various sprites but more as an art project than an assets thing, and i have an idea on how you could expand it further.
Basically: Fanpro but for Pixel Art. Which, for those who don’t know, Fanpro is basically this pool of character designs people contributed to for a while, released totally and utterly under a CC0 license, for anyone to use how they see fit! Basically the exact opposite of NFTs!
It ha a successor in ComPro, but that kinda sputtered out, but one based around a specific theme like pixel art might be perfect! If only as an F-you to NFTs!
...But yeah, that’s my two cents on that good idea.
Boosting this! The opposite of NFTs has existed for a long time, it's called open source and creative commons. And to add something, Kenney has recently released this little app called Creature Mixer to create little animated pixel art sprites: https://kenney.itch.io/creature-mixer It's free and it's terms of use forbid any use with any kind of NFTs for the sprites created with it.
so, with some thanks to the lovely people above and with no further aplomb ‘cause it’s just a goofy 16 by 16 pixel goblin, here goes:
Nifty is a little 16 by 16 pixel goblin who’s yours to own and do whatever you wish to do with.
Licence: You can copy, modify and distribute this work, even for commercial projects, strictly excluding those relating to or containing non-fungible tokens (so-called "NFT") or blockchain (related) projects.
I’ve included a blown up 80 by 80 pixel version simply because I know from experience that Tumblr messes up small pixel art, but I’ve included a version in the original 16 by 16 resolution. While Sprytile is my pixel art software of choice, any image editor should do as long as long as it allows for turning off anti-aliasing, the bane of anyone who’s worked with pixels.
anyway, that’s enough pomp and circumstance for my silly little goblin powered by spite, although I do think it turned out pretty cute
I know nobody cares but I made a bunch of Nifty’s because he’s just so cute
I CARE HOLY SHIT THIS WHIPS
Shhh... sleepy
hi i love Nifty so i brought him into the physical realm

OH i literally JUST finished my nifty piece today:

Hi! Another program that is working to be opposite NFTs is the Extremely Fungible Token program! A bunch of artists have gotten together and released NFT-like profile pictures that are totally free to use and screenshot. They are all in the Creative Commons, and there’s an optional donate link for you to donate to the artist if you love their work. (That’s where my profile pic comes from!)
So yeah, check out EFTs!
Your introduction to EFTs We all hate NFTs. They hurt artists, hurt the environment, and are overall just a bad idea. That's why a bunch of
This past week I have gone out to grab lunch with a friend, solely because I can then hit more pokemon stops and send a wider selection of gifts to my pokemon GO friends.
The Planar Character
Okay, so a couple of years ago I put together a document of planar subclasses for those wanting to get a 5th Edition Planescape game going with their D&D groups.
Only a silly thing with a handful of items, racial lineages, 7 subclasses.
And that's the thing, it only had 7 subclasses when D&D has 13 (including the Artificer), and that doesn't sit right with me.
With that in mind, I've been working on filling the entire roster so that my little book has a subclass for every class, and today has been a day when the words flow.
My goal is to get the entire thing finished before the official Planescape release is out in October, especially seeing as WotC isn't looking to give us a full array of character options.
The Planar Character - So you want to run in a Planar Adventure? It’s okay, I understand how that is, you saw a portal, wanted to jump in wi
So far, I am excited to get this project done.
Again.
I feel bad for my Pokemon GO friends, I rarely leave the house so the only gifts they get come from the same two locations I can reach from home.
The mashup of Nine Inch Nails and Taylor Swift work so well that these two songs have forever been linked within my brain.

i love how there is a clear physical difference between good sephiroth and evil sephiroth.
differences in hair aside, evil sephiroth has obvious dark circles and hollowing around his eye area. this is the go to physical change to indicate that a character has gone to the dark side. a good example of this is anakin skywalker. compare the first image with the second one.
in seph's case, could this just be lighting/shadowing/angling, etc.? that's what i thought at first until i found these two gifs:
his faces in both gifs are both shadowed, but the physical difference is still there: even when his face is shadowed, you can clearly see that good sephy has no dark circles or any hollowing to his eye area. evil sephiroth also has that "aged" look to him that reminds me of arthas menethil from warcraft (who is also a hero turned villain like sephiroth):
with this, you can see just how much sephiroth has changed, not only in terms of personality, but also in appearance. his gaze is no longer as warm or as amicable as it used to be. evil sephiroth, even when he's making a neutral expression (or at least when he's not grinning or smirking), still looks very sinister, and his eyes seem to be a glowing a lot more too.
this change is also obvious in that iconic fire scene of sephiroth burning down nibelheim:
this physical change also makes sense when you take into consideration how long he was holed up in the basement at the shinra mansion without sleeping or eating, just endlessly reading outdated information about his origins.
i'm glad square enix put this little yet meaningful detail in the games.
yeah, ur right @flowersinmidgar 👍👍 i even have a photo of it!
(i can't take him seriously in this scene tho, bc it looks like his eyeliner is running 😂😂)
