Turning about cosplay ideas for next year in my brain. First it was Giant Worm On String. Then it was Garfield the Deals Warlock, recylcing many of the garf elements of this year.
And then suddenly, striking me like a great bolt, the phrase "bowsette but butch" struck me. There's only one way to solve this

“The old magic persists thanks to it’s unfathomable power.”
No, the old magic persists because the new magic can’t run the legacy spells I need to do my job, and keeps trying to install spirits I don’t want or need onto my orb.
Look, if the new magic didn't have a personality construct that kept trying to tell me which spells to use, maybe I wouldn't still be using the old magic.
Yes it had a deep blood cost, but at least it was a one time sacrifice and not this monthly bloodletting nonsense new age magic has
The old magic is robust enough to survive a decade of use and it's compatible with every wand, staff, scroll, and charm in our collection.
The new magic stops working after three days and every spell uses proprietary runes.
Our preferences, as an archiving institution, should be pretty clear.
You try to get guidance for the new magic and the king's sorcerers maybe will answer you in a few days with an unhelpful suggestion to buy the newest orb.
You need guidance for the old magic and a dozen retired middle-aged wizards will pop up to explain it to you rune by rune if necessary.
"D&D was always for the freaks and the outsiders" is one of those statements that is technically true but if you dig a bit under the surface you realize that the freaks and outsiders in question are Misogyny Steve and The Dungeon Racist.
i think this says much more about the people y'all hang out with or know than it does ttrpg players as a whole but idk
I think this comment is indicative of the fact that you don't know a lot about the history of the game and the culture surrounding it.
Uh, okay, yeah. I guess I don't know a lot about the history of the game
I won't belabor the point because I've effectively made this same post a few times now, but the point is that there's a degree of historical revisionism to the claim "D&D was always for the freaks and outsiders" (very common sentiment among queer folks who play D&D these days) because it papers over the fact that D&D as a game and its surrounding community have not always been very welcoming and in fact have been home to lots of people with extremely misogynistic, queerphobic, and racist attitudes, and a not inconsiderable amount of this can be traced hack to the people who created the game. None of this is to say that the community surrounding the game hasn't improved, but it doesn't do any of us favors to pretend that the D&D community was always welcoming to all. (As said, this sentiment is particularly common among queer folks who play D&D: it is well-intentioned, because they want to sell the idea that the game they like has somehow always had some intractable quality that makes it Queer, but as said is horribly revisionist.)
Guy who has heard other guys refer to their wives as "ball and chain" and "battle-axe" and wrongfully assumed you can refer to your wife as any medieval weapon: oh there's my beautiful Lucerne hammer
“Ah, behold, my Halberd approaches!”
“She is my angel, my Morning Star!”
“My stiletto in stilettos!”
“My fiesty little Flamberge!”
“Quite the little Mancatcher isn’t she?”
“What can she do?! What BarbiCANT she do?!”
Honestly, this is fun and just sounds like if Gomez Addams was a medieval Lord at a joust or something.
I like how this one is glowing like a powerful magic tome
This might be the funniest reply I’ve ever seen in my life

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS (2002) dir. Peter Jackson
It's all wrong. By rights, we shouldn't even be here, but we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now.
my favorite kind of character is the kind who deep in their soul is constantly screaming LOVE ME LOVE ME LOVE ME and outwardly expressing literally anything else
this post has been very fun for me because I rarely post anything that's not like, specific to my fandoms yk but now I get to see everybody tagging this with their favorite traumatized guys and it's cool
