Nine for the Tomb- A Locked Tomb Fan Podcast: Casting!

howdy everybody, my name is jack and i am shamelessly plugging the casting call I made for my narrative podcast! 'Nine for the Tomb' is a fan podcast created and directed by me, which is going to take scenes from the entire series and convert them into audio drama format.

this is my first podcast, and i'm so excited about it! to start with, i'm casting for several lead roles (including Gideon, Harrow and Palamedes), and secondary roles like Abigail Pent and Marta Dyas a little later on. I'm inviting everyone to audition, regardless of experience or mic quality!

naturally, this podcast will contain foul language and mature subject matter, so if you're not comfortable with that, please don't audition. and of course, spoiler for the entire book series. you've been warned!

was reminded of that youtube channel that records footage of that bridge that scalps trucks today. one of the fascinating developments that's happened since i last heard about it is that, in one of their many attempts to stop the trucks from being can-opened, they installed a traffic light that detects when a vehicle that's over the allowed height is coming and turns red so the driver can stop and hopefully notice the signage all around that's screaming "YOUR VEHICLE IS OVERHEIGHT TURN AROUND" and avoid an accident. However as a result sometimes drivers see the light turning yellow and IMMEDIATELY start flooring it to avoid having to stop, ensuring that the roof of their truck just gets fucking annihilated instantly. Really beautiful stuff you should check it out

It DOES have a sign. It turns on when it detects something too tall for the bridge. It even flashes. And the traffic lights will go red to get people to stop when it detects an over height vehicle so they read the signs. (note this lovely example where the lights are red, because the truck thought it was better than the lights)

Unfortunately, the representation of drag and female impersonation (as it was often called pre-Stonewall) is scant in mainstream American cinema due to the Hayes Code. I just want everyone to remember that Donald Trump has spent the last several weeks mocking and berating everybody who suggested Biden step aside because the republicans really did not want to run against someone other than Joe Biden. They have no plan, no playbook, no protocol, for running against someone other than Joe.

If you're feeling defeatist right now, please just understand that the Trump Campaign Strategy People are having the worst, most stressful day of the campaign as they scramble to figure out how to beat somebody who isn't Biden in November. Their ace in the hole was a hunk of Kryptonite up their sleeve and now they find out they won't be fighting Superman. THAT is the mood of today.

Like, the people who know me know that I'm rarely the guy with a positive outlook about anything. But it's really important to realize that

The Trumpist narrative around this election, the drum they've been banging for the entire election cycle, is "don't vote for the INCOHERENT OLD GUY." Trump is now the only person in the race who's incoherent or old. Their entire strategy needs to be binned because Trump is now running against someone decades younger and more vital, and exponentially more articulate than him. He put all his strategic eggs in that basket. The only change to the Biden-Harris campaign strategy that needs to take place is slightly different printing on the buttons and yard signs. The Trump-Vance campaign strategy now needs to be redrawn from square one. This move has put the Harris campaign miles ahead of Trump

Trump has already taken to TruthSocial to complain about the fact that he spend so much time, energy, and money campaigning on the assumption that Joe Biden would be the nominee, and now he has to "start over." Last week, he was so convinced he had the election in the bag that he picked a fringe figure, unpopular in his own party and unlikely to bring in any votes Trump hadn't already secured, because he thought he didn't need to worry about getting elected, only having a VP who would "play ball" with his dictatorial ambitions in the way his previous VP (who, remember, he tried to have murdered) refused to. Today, he's posting shit like this:

Nothing's a guarantee, there's no such thing as "safe," only "safer," and it isn't over until it's over. But, I really can't stress this enough: the events of today were a bowling ball dropped on a house of cards for Trump. It's possible he could rebuild it by November! But it's objectively good news that he has to.

it's very important that disabled people are allowed to make bad decisions actually. that we're allowed to do things which cause flare-ups. that we're allowed to take a risk and get it wrong. that not every single second of our day has to be about playing it safe and being well-behaved and staying within our limits

and on the days when we deal with the consequences of those mistakes and bad decisions we're still worthy of a) sympathy and b) pain relief. just as we are if our illness or disability is the result of our choices in the first place

also tbh sometimes it is MEDICALLY important that you take risks and fuck it up because playing it safe can cause "safety" to shrink. can convince your brain that everything outside of those bounds is forbidden. can increase your body's response to threat because everything unfamiliar becomes threat because you've taught it that it's not allowed to do those things because they're dangerous. and if they're dangerous then they're painful and the pain gets worse and the limits get smaller and your life SHRINKS

this is not true of all conditions (for some, pushing through can have a lasting negative impact, i'm not disputing that) but maybe trust people to know whether it's true for their own condition and allow them the autonomy to weigh up the risk and the benefit

Bumi is 212, Toph is 112, and along with another talented Earthbender who's 12 they rule New Omashu. They teach Aang together even though they have very different teaching styles.

For waterbending teacher I'm thinking maybe a pirate queen of sorts.

Firebending teacher is the hardest because the Fire Nation is all but extinct after both the spirits and the other nations have hunted them down for a century. Maybe in addition to Aang being the last Airbender, there's also one last Firebender left.

A prideful old man with a scar runs a tea shop alone. Still standing despite the apocalypse. His tea is excellent but he'll tell you that it's not nearly as good as what his uncle used to make.
