I'm re-reading Conclave and I just remembered: Vincent Benitez is tiny.

Whover it is that happens to be in charge of wardrobes and clothes and things for the clergy in Rome had a heck of a time trying to find Vincent clothes that fit. Lomeli/Lawrence makes a point of observing this.

Vincent was swimming in his choir robes.

Heaven only knows how they managed to get his papal robes sorted out.

And in this ficverse, I can only imagine someone like Cardi Yappatron making an atypical unserious comment like: "All these tall foreigners, these Europeans, they must've wondered: who is this kutong lupa in our midst? And then they end up making him the Pope!"

(Look, Vincent gets him for that crack later on - imagining him engaging in good natured bardagulan with his fellow Pinoys gives me joy.)

Eventually, someone is going to explain to Cardinal Lawrence what is a kutong lupa.

And then he'll finally understand the Pinoy concept of gigil, that poor, poor man.

Conclave sequel that's just the first movie from Ray's perspective. He has no idea what's going on inside the Sistine Chapel. His supposedly sequestered boss is sending him on spy missions. He's pretty sure that he's uncovering church-shattering secrets. His boss is two seconds away from an aneurysm or suicide at any given moment. A bomb just went off. Thomas doesn't want to hear about it. Another bomb just went off. The new guy Ray was getting dirt on has inexplicably become Pope. His boss finally doesn't look like he's trying to will himself into a coma. Now Ray has to go tell him the new Pope is intersex which he learned through probably illegal means.

Anyways, fellow conclave fans.. I finally got around to finishing our dear Vincent Benitez :)

Let me walk ya through it!!

First of all; the text on the bottom right is the scene in the book where Lomeli/Lawrence decides to vote for Benitez. God I love this book.

In the book Benitez mentions his liking for candles, so what’s better than putting him in candlelight?

His shadow isn’t of him as cardinal, but rather as pope, wearing the papal mitre and holding the scepter.

And lastly, the shadow being casted by his pectoral cross is not shaped like the cross, but rather it’s shaped like ovaries. Conclave people, I don’t have to explain this one

I had a lot of fun with this piece and man do I LOVE CONCLAVE !!!!!!🫡🫡

I definitely have Thoughts about Vincent Benitez’s body, but I feel like it’s weird for me to really explore that because of the fact that I’m cis.

However, perhaps what I can do is explore things from the perspective of Thomas Lawrence, who also has a lot of Thoughts about this and reaches new levels of self-loathing because of it.
