There's been a number of people reporting over on the AO3 subreddit that they're getting messages like this posted in the comments shortly after posting new fics.

The AO3 team are NEVER going to try and contact you about TOS violations via the comment section (or about anything else for that matter)

Don't click any links. Report the accounts involved (which might claim to be things like "LucySupport"), delete the message and move on.

AO3 does not live in “the cloud” because that is other people’s computers, and other people’s computers are vulnerable to censorship.

AO3 is on its own computers. It does still have to be housed somewhere, and I suppose a determined enough hater could try to find that place and go after it, but it’s a lot harder than sending spurious complaints to Amazon or whomever going “BadWrong things are hosted on your cloud service!”

Owning the servers is a core tenet of OTW/AO3.

When people involved with AO3 talk about “the cost of servers” they don’t mean “the cost to pay Amazon for space on their servers.” They mean, like, the cost to physically own them, and eventually replace them with new ones. And the operating costs to run them.

AO3 is not “in the cloud.” AO3 is stored on physical machines that the OTW owns.

While this is not a solution that can work for everyone who wants to deal with controversial content, it is why AO3ple sneer at alt-righters who complain about getting thrown off hosting platforms.

saying this as mildly as possible but the anti ai posting tenor on this website (not last post, but in general - i have been biting my tongue for a long long time) is one generally oriented towards a maximal amount of self-righteousness. in my experience, self-righteousness only ever produces martyrdom and a punitive desire for "justice" that can never quite be quenched. none of it is actually conducive towards good politics around the matter in question, least of all ai, which is frankly poorly understood and thought about on here. a little more compassion and thoughtfulness and a little less solipsistic self-absorption perhaps is in order.

i know you're already typing "of course the cookie clicker guy would post that" but i really do have a fondness for exponential automation bootstrapping scenarios. one of my favorite old minecraft modpacks had stuff like solar panels and replicators. what you do is you painstakingly amass the components to create your first replicator (which involves rubber farms, ore quarries, processing lines, etc) and go to great lengths to power it through cranks you have to turn or coal you have to dig up. at some point you build your first solar panel. very slow energy output but it passively powers your replicator for free. what do you replicate? solar panels. you can then craft more efficient solar panels out of those solar panels. your energy output accelerates and so does your replication rate. eventually you're producing so much extra energy that you can justify plugging in a second replicator, and then a third, which you replicated for free. your replicators replicate replicators along with the solar panels that power them. for fun, you drop one diamond in the system and your entire chest network fills up almost immediately with thousands and thousands of diamonds. you will never run out of anything ever again. i don't think that modpack has replicators anymore
