“you cannot ship these two fictional characters because—” actually I can because they are not real people. they are just toys I play with. you cannot apply real-world morality to fiction or how strangers play with their imaginary toys in their imaginary sandboxes.
you can, however, curate your own internet experience by minding your own business, muting/blocking/scrolling past what upsets you but does not hurt anyone in real life in any way, shape or form.
“ship whatever you want except xyz. there is a limit” so you miss the entire point of what I just said 👌🏻
there is, in fact, no limit. I may be uncomfortable with it, I may even find it unpleasant/disturbing, but my personal feelings are not rules that can be applied to other people, and they absolutely do not justify shaming or harassing other people.
People are always writing fanfiction about how it’s abusive for tom to hit jerry with the big mallet and jerey has mallet PTSD and gets a restraining order out on tom and starts going to a domestic violence survivors support group. stuff like this. Sometimes I like it but sometimes it irks me.
my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government
"you wouldn't want that in real life" yeah i know it's called playing pretend, try to keep up

Why do you only want what you can't have?
Sometimes a cast of characters in a book or whatever is implied to be overwhelmingly white as that's just assumed to be the "default" so fandoms will take it upon themselves to do colour-blind casting to make it more diverse, but they haven't quite learned racist/colourist stereotypes and archetypes so now we've got people just doing. god I don't even know how to describe it. It's just bad

“this take on dean is homophobic and misogynistic!” my guy, dean himself is canonically homophobic and misogynistic, i just don’t feel the need to erase his problematic traits unlike 99% of the fandom. my dean would say and do all that. also, he’s a violent man with sadistic tendencies and severe control + abandonment issues, he wants to become his abusive father and reenact the dadson dynamic with his little brother (where he wants to be in the dad role obviously), he gets off on the ideal, obedient version of the said brother, he has a canonical incest kink and a weird obsession with young girls. he’s not an innocent, beaten uwu gay bottom. grow up and accept him for who he is
Fandoms stopped being a fun escape from reality when people started spreading the belief that you should prioritize purity over pleasure and the art you create must be a reflection of your moral standards at all times.
i will never forgive the internet for making the phrase “fiction affects reality” inherently suspicious because like fiction absolutely does affect reality in the sense that the themes and messages of media can challenge or affirm people’s biases, it can impact one’s ideology, so much of fiction is commentary on real social issues
and yet! everyone who uses the phrase fiction affects reality is using it as a pro-censorship argument and i simply do not fuck with that
