I greatly appreciate Ariana Grande’s choices here. Glinda is usually very exaggerated in her mannerisms, which extends to her emotions, including anger. One would expect her to be frothing at the mouth here, considering the audience knows she just went through the worse night of her life. But the fact that her anger is so cold, so borderline clinical, really shows how incensed and unforgiving she actually feels. This isn’t “I have an unexpected roommate in what was supposed to be my private suite” anger, it isn’t “my fiancé ran away with my best friend and I’m bitter” anger; it is “The one person I loved more than anything or anyone else in Oz is dead, and some of the blame for that falls on me… but mostly it falls on you. You did this. You took her from me. And it seems you also took her from yourself. I didn’t stand up to you when I should have, and now she’s dead. I’m not making the same mistake again. Get out of my sight, get out of this palace, get out of this land.” Just wonderful.
