Sometimes life likes to throw a curveball at you. Sometimes you see them coming, and others seemingly come from out of nowhere and hit you right in the head. Last Friday night threw us one of those latter curveballs.
My dad came home from work only about an hour or two after he’d left, and as soon as he stepped through the door he informed me he’d been terminated from his job. He’d worked at the…
Preach, Maude! And yes, Bea Arthur was just as much a champion of LGBT rights in real life as Maude was on TV. Reason #228 why Bea Arthur was awesome.
Did you know she was a Marine, too? Women were not allowed in combat at that time, but she worked as a truck driver and typist in the Marine Corps Women’s Reserve, which handled a lot of the logistical activities of the Marine Corps at home while the male Marines were fighting overseas during World War II. She served in the Marines for two years before being Honorably Discharged in September 1945, when World War II ended. (My dad was a Marine for about 4 years in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, so I tend to have a soft spot for Marines.)
With Eurovision 2026 coming in a matter of days, kicking off on Tuesday, 12 May, I have a new finished object to share with you!
I have made Eurovision-inspired projects in the past, but the majority of them have been shawls, usually of the crocheted variety. However, in the months leading up to this year’s Contest, as soon as I saw the winner of one of the national finals that are used to…
As I already have a good idea of who the finalists are, I’m not doing a running commentary tonight, but instead I’m going to give my predictions on how I think they will finish and lock in my final guesses (with the exception of Cat Witch, as her identity has already been revealed as part of the Insider twist).
Catch my predictions after the break!
Okay, here are my predictions and final guesses.
Fourth Place: Galaxy Girl 🌌
She probably has the weakest vocals of the four masked singers remaining, but she is by no means bad at it. Stingray said he’s been trekking through life with someone else in the competition, and that was just confirmation that his wife is in fact competing.
Who Do I Think She Is?: Ashlee Simpson (wife of Stingray, Evan Ross). It took a few rounds for the clues to come together, but they did.
Third Place: Cat Witch 🐈⬛ 🧙
The other three placings were tricky for me to decide on because I think the vocal talent between the three of them is pretty even (yes, even Pugcasso). Some fans think that Cat Witch could pull off a surprise win! Regardless, I think it is going to be a very close audience vote between the final three if it turns out like I think it will.
So, we already know that Cat Witch is Kylie Cantrall from The Descendants. But…
Are the Judges Going to Be Anywhere Close to Guessing Her Identity?: Yes, especially since Rita Ora guessed her correctly last week! Whether the other judges agree with her is another question.
Runner-Up: Crane 🦢
I was waffling so much between Crane and Pugcasso over who between the two of them could win. Ultimately, I think Pugcasso has more of an emotional connection with both the audiences and the judges that I think he might pull off the win. But Crane is ridiculously talented and is the best all-around performer of the finalists.
Who Do I Think She Is?: It took me a while to get there, but I’m now pretty sure it’s Normani from Fifth Harmony.
Winner: Pugcasso 🐶 🎨
Pugcasso doesn’t have the best pure voice of the four, but he is really good at his particular style of singing. I figured his identity out the earliest of the four, only taking a couple of rounds for me to definitively settle on my guess as to his identity. While having Ben Zobrist on here would have been interesting, I’m glad that if I’m correct, the guy that this actually is has gotten this far. But he’s no stranger to competing in finales.
Who Do I Think He Is?: I’m pretty sure that this is Phillip Phillips, and I’m pulling for him to become the first American Idol alum to win The Masked Singer. Several have competed (Ruben & Clay as the Beets , Katharine McPhee as part of the Banana Split 🍌 🍨), but the best finish for one is still Rottweiler 🐕 (aka Chris Daughtry), the runner-up from Season 2, who improved on his American Idol finish by two spots, and Macaw 🦜 (aka David Archuleta) from Season 9, who tied his runner-up finish from American Idol.
I am watching tonight’s episode of The Masked Singer, but will not be writing a commentary because I think I have the semifinalists figured out.
So, I’ll give my current guesses to their identities and then give my prediction on who gets unmasked tonight. (I am watching on a delay, and not as it’s being broadcast.)
My guesses:
Pangolin 🦡: Rachel Platten
Galaxy Girl 🌌: Ashlee Simpson
Crane 🦢: Normani
Pugcasso 🐶 🎨: Phillip Phillips
And we already know that Cat Witch 🐈⬛ 🧙 is Kylie Cantrall, but so far the judges have not gotten anywhere close to guessing her identity.
As for who gets unmasked tonight, I think it’s either Galaxy Girl or Cat Witch.
Tonight’s episode will have a double elimination. The remaining competitors will advance to the Semifinal.
As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so these are my guesses and not spoilers. I am watching on a delay.
Stingray ⚡️ 🐟: Looks like this week’s singers are also getting Colossal Clues. His clues are: he says he’s been “trekking with someone else in this competition” and he’s not Jason Derulo. His final clue is a sequined glove. This has to be Evan Ross, because I already believe his wife Ashlee Simpson is Galaxy Girl. And the sequined glove is definitely a reference to Michael Jackson, who was a close friend of Evan’s mom Diana Ross. (The Jackson 5 were major stars for the Motown label, as was Diana Ross, and Michael also costarred alongside Diana in The Wiz, where Diana played Dorothy and Michael was The Scarecrow.)
Cat Witch 🐈⬛ 🧙: So…are the judges any closer to getting her identity correct? I’ll say, only on this show could you have Klingons as your backup dancers! Okay, judges? There was a constellation of the Cancer ♋️ symbol on the screen at the end. Kylie Cantrall’s zodiac sign is indeed Cancer (her birthday is June 25.) Short answer, they’re not any closer to guessing her identity!
14 Karat Carrot 🥕: It’s been a bit since he last performed! His Colossal Clues: Johnny Gill from New Edition, who confirms that the 14 Karat Carrot doesn’t sing for a living. An Alien calls for “Captain Justice”. Referring to past clue packages, this seems to confirm that he is Judge Greg Mathis. He also has said he’s asked Johnny Gill if he could join New Edition, and he said the response was “Stay in your own court.” His fanny pack also has the Scales of Justice ⚖️ on it.
Galaxy Girl 🌌: Her Colossal Clues: she’s not Gwen Stefani, and we see a pair of Vegas Showgirls. So, she’s done some extensive work in Las Vegas. I’m still pretty sure this is Ashlee Simpson, and the voice definitely sounds like her.
I’d love to see a version of Julius Caesar where he takes the beware the Ides of March warning seriously like “oh shit. good heads up man thanks” and he goes into it with his own knife. He calms down a bit when he see’s all his best friends like “yea, the squad is here and everyone is strapped. nice”
As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so these are my guesses and not spoilers.
Pangolin 🦡: She said “It’s gonna take you a thousand years to get this” and claims she’s not Christina Perri, because Christina is her “Colossal Clue”. But Christina Perri claims she’s friends with Pangolin. Judging from her singing voice, if she’s not Christina Perri, I’m leaning towards her being Rachel Platten.
High Voltage ⚡️: The “Colossal Clue” is a cowboy on a horse. I’m still thinking this is Alexi Lalas. Alexi has been known to wear cowboy hats while in his capacity as a sports analyst. He’s not showing the strongest vocals tonight, so he might be getting unmasked. He says he’s been “…feeling 22 for a long time”. High Voltage has a 22 on his costume, and 22 was Alexi Lalas’s jersey number during his soccer career.
Pugcasso 🐶 🎨: His “Colossal Clue” is that this isn’t his first competition and he’s taken the Olympics by storm. Again, this solidifies Phillip Phillips for me because one of the biggest reasons why “Home” became such a huge hit single for him (and even surpassed Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This” to become the most successful American Idol coronation song in the show’s run) was because NBC used the song prominently during its coverage of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team in the 2012 Summer Olympics, just a few months after he won American Idol. (Coronation songs have typically not performed as well on the charts from about season 8 onward. “Home” was the exception to that, and its use in Olympic coverage played a huge part in it becoming as successful as it did.) Can we get Phillip to release that version of “Dreams” by The Cranberries as a single?
Crane 🦢: Her Colossal Clue is that she’s not Ashanti and we see a football player on bended knee with a ring. She’s with a football player, either engaged to one or married. Ciara is still a possibility, as she’s married to Russell Wilson, but Crane doesn’t quite sound like her. Another possibility I’ve seen is Normani from Fifth Harmony, which would fit with the construction helmet clue, as one of the group’s biggest hits was “Work from Home”, and the music video had a construction site theme. Normani also has a Soul Train Award. The clues are now pointing more towards Normani.
Tonight’s episode pays tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne. His daughter Kelly Osbourne (who was Ladybug 🐞 in a previous season) will be a guest judge.
As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so these are my guesses and not spoilers. I watched this week’s Survivor episode first, so I’m watching tonight’s episode on a delay.
High Voltage ⚡️: I’m still thinking this is soccer player Alexi Lalas, but let’s see what the clues are telling us. Says he was a big fan of Ozzy’s. He’s seen carrying a yellow gym bag. Says he “broke out from a group” and went solo. We see a sign reading “95¢”. He has a jar labeled “Jam”. He’s seen pressing a red button. He says he runs businesses, bands, and podcasts. Well, since retiring from professional soccer, Alexi has worked as a sports commentator (“going solo”) in addition to his music career. The “95” could be a reference to helping the U.S. national soccer team winning the U.S. Cup that in 1995. The bonus clue: a card reading “Bandwagon”. He says he inspired others to join the bandwagon. I’d imagine Alexi may have inspired an entire generation of American boys to take up soccer. So, I’m sticking with Alexi Lalas.
Galaxy Girl 🌌: Says her first concert was at Lilith Fair (a festival tour in the late 1990s that featured mostly female pop and rock singers on the bill). We see a tarantula crawling across her piano. We see a gondola in a fountain. She’s seen holding a record called “Dream” made of clouds on the cover. I’m definitely hearing Ashlee Simpson this time, as pop rock has always seemed to be her avenue as far as her vocals (she sang “Drive” by Incubus, who have performed at Ozzfest in the past). The bonus clue: a card reading “Halo”. Says not everyone earns à halo in life…but she did. And it sounds like Kelly Osbourne remembers Ashlee Simpson’s “panic jig” from her infamous SNL fiasco. I didn’t notice the jig at the end of Galaxy Girl’s performance, but I’m inclined to agree with Kelly and that it’s Ashlee Simpson.
Eggplant 🍆: Says he did Broadway and shared the spotlight with Cher. Then he says he dated a famous rocker’s girlfriend. We see a cheese grater and a wagon wheel. We see a pile of firewood. I still think this is Jack Wagner, and he was in fact in a relationship with Heather Locklear, who was married to not one, but two different rock stars (Tommy Lee from Mötley Crüe was her first husband, and Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi was her second husband). He and Heather split up and he has since married a different woman (who is his second wife). The bonus clue: a card reading “Classic Guitar”. Jack Wagner does, in fact, play guitar. I’m sticking with Jack Wagner. (The wagon wheel because a person who drives wagons is a “Waggoner”, which is a play on “Wagner”.)
Pangolin 🦡: We see her at a renaissance fair. Near her is a kettlebell with a heart engraved on it. Says she was living and working out of her van. We see a trumpet with a banner reading “Fame” hanging off of it. Says fame suddenly hit. We see a tip jar, and a horse with a banner reading “1000” on it. I’m thinking it could be either Rachel Platten (talking about a “strong song”, maybe her signature song “Fight Song”?) or Christina Perri (the tip jar and kettle bell could reference her song “Jar of Hearts”, the “1000” referring to “A Thousand Years”). Christina sang unmasked to open Twilight Week in a recent episode. The bonus clue: the card reads “Diamond”. Has she had a diamond-certified single? “A Thousand Years” was certified diamond in in the U.S.! Okay, I think I’m going to go with Christina Perri this week.
