This is apparently a hotter take than I thought but: hating on lawyers as a profession, calling them inherently dishonest etc. is politically reactionary. It discourages defendants from seeking legal counsel, puts forth the idea that it’s inherently suspicious to insist on seeing a lawyer before you answer police questioning (your constitutional right!) etc. which ultimately just benefits the state in making it easier for them to convict you. This is one of those things that “progressives” who were raised conservative often don’t realize is one of the parts of their parents’ worldview they should question more, but they should. Not only are lawyers not The Problem with “our system,” but having someone who is educated in the law whose job is to represent your interests in court — getting one regardless of your ability to pay, even! — is in fact one of the best parts of it.

Solving the puzzle opens the door to the truth.
true crime is becoming to girls what ww2 is to boys
#there’s definitely some amount of difference#because a lot of women get into true crime#because they’re overly aware that the majority of the murder victims are women#and it’s kind of a response to knowing how dangerous it is to exist in this world as a woman- like ‘this could be me’#or ‘this is how i would protect myself if i were in this situation’#or even trying to make true crime seem more like a show because it makes the possibility that they’ll be harmed seem less likely#but also there’s serial killer fangirls so like#you really can’t defend that
The majority of murder victims are, in fact, men.
Specifically, 79%.
The most murdered group, specifically, are black men.
The LEAST murdered demographic are middle class white women, who oddly make up a majority of the murder victims shown in true crime programs and news reports, and also the ones who make up the majority of true crime fans.
It’s called Missing White Woman Syndrome, and it’s based in racist disregard for non-white lives and patriarchal protectiveness of (white) women and it leads white middle class women to have a vastly overblown idea of their own vulnerability to random serial killers.
Note, ‘overblown.’ These women are feeling fear for a vanishingly unlikely occurrence, akin to preppers who spend their lives preparing for Russian invasions. It’s not a healthy or rational fear, and it shouldn’t be encouraged.
The analogy is also apt, even if watching out of own personal fears. In the end you’re still watching police propaganda, to justify the use of the prison systems (or capital punishment), and it’s purposely playing on your fascination and disgust to do this. The same bigoted system most privileged will buy their way out off anyway. Its reactionary as shit lol.
In addition to all of that, only 10% of all female murder victims are killed by complete strangers. Women are substantially more likely to be murdered by a family member or intimate partner. True Crime shows also distract from the violence of the nuclear family and replace it with an imagined outsider.
Why do people act like true crime is some kind of new hobby trend or something? The only thing new are the platforms for sharing the interest.
In fact, true crime was a reeeeeally normie housewife interest in the 80s. People didn’t have YouTube or podcasts, but there were all kinds of talk shows, hard hitting journalistic shows, various exploitation/sensationalistic TV, and there were books. The most normie people you can imagine were into mags like True Detective.
However you want to analyze this, True Crime is not some new interest that emerged with YouTube and podcasts and Netflix exploitation dramas
i've always loved western movies posters, so i decided to try and draw one for each chapter of red dead redemption 2. it's been a fun process

“the male loneliness epidemic” is just incredible because loneliness is actually an epidemic in all layers of society among all kinds of people but men always thing they’re the only ones disadvantaged when they’re experiencing an issue caused by the way our society works
Like women are lonely too but they don’t usually go on murder sprees when they can’t get laid so who cares I suppose
Come on, this is so unnecessary. The male loneliness thing is a very specific situation, it's not about men who are lonely, it is about the various ways toxic masculinity creates a uniquely isolating situation for men. The expectations society and the patriarchy puts on men pushes them to isolate their emotions from everyone except romantic partners. So, while women tend to be vulnerable with friends, men do not, and that loneliness festers. It differs from just standard loneliness that anyone can experience. This "male loneliness" has effects on women too, it's a lot of the reason why men often respond to any kindness from women as an invitation to become romantically attached, it also leads to bottled up feelings and outbursts. We make this distinction for a reason, so we can identify and address a specific problem.
fr like do "feminists" even read bell hooks 🙄

Thanks for the mention! And this is a great break-down/explanation.
Zombies shouldn't growl or snarl, they should babble a mixture of incomplete word sounds and whole words or sentence fragments. Every zombie should sound almost but not quite like it's trying to tell you something.
this may not be what you're saying, but what I'm hearing is that zombies should make everyone feel like they've developed sudden onset audio processing disorder.
Like if you could just hear it more clearly, you'd understand what they're saying, but in reality it's nonsense and there's nothing to understand.
And damn if it doesn't convince so many folks that their loved ones are still in there, they just need to keep them locked up safely in the barn until someone finds the cure, then everything can go back to the way they were.
THIS is exactly what this particular zombie trope is missing. Like we all understand, conceptually, that this still looks like someone they love, but it would be 1000 times more effective if it still somewhat behaved like someone they love.
oooh muscle memory. i’m not into zombie media enough to tell if this has been done or not but. zombies that will automatically reach into their pocket for their phone when they hear a ring, even if it’s dead, broken or lost. zombies that reach up to play with their hair or necklace, the same way your loved one did. zombies that bite their nails. a zombie rolling up its sleeves with perfect practice while looking at you with the utterly blank eyes of a dead animal
Everyone should read Catherynne M Valente's excellent short story The Days of Flaming Motorcycles for something like this
When you call bigots “insane” “psychopaths” “sick” “crazy” or “wrong in the head” you’re actually moving the responsibility for bigoted acts from the systematic racism, sexism, transphobia, misogyny, etc in our society to disabled/neurodivergent people and that is one great example of what happens when you all forget to include ableism in your intersectionality.

i hate this weird sense of internalized queerphobia of like. being visibly and really loudly queer is somehow immature and childish and one day you'll grow up and fall into cishet line and stop
#conforming is not synonymous with maturity
