I feel like if being trans wasn’t trendy, then a large majority of trans people today (mostly high schoolers/college goers) would not be trans
I totally support people who are ACTUALLY trans, and have actual disphoria and problems. However, almost all the trans kids at my school would not be trans if it was not a trend to do so. I was a tomboy growing up, but people nowadays would tell me that I was a closet-trans person. People can be a tomboyish girl or a girly boy, and not trans, and the fact that so many people are pushing for them to fit into this box that is trans people is just ridiculous.
btw non-binary is not a real gender you can fight me on that
I agree with you whole heartedly. It’s been taken too far and the kids who treat it like a trend need to realize that having gender dysphoria is not as fun and refreshing as you’re making it out to be.
There was a freshman who had Tourette’s since she was young and she joined the band because her mother wanted her to enjoy her highschool life by doing something productive. (That’s how I met her) well there was also this other freshman girl who was also in the band during her 7th and 8th grade year so she was familiar to the band and the students around her.
The girl who was familiar has never in her life shown signs of having Tourette’s but after meeting the girl who actually had Tourette’s she decided it would be an cool idea to copy her. Anytime she was in front of someone she would flinch and scream out profanities, and at band practice she would scream out suddenly and trigger the other girl’s tweeks. At football games she would scream as loud as she could just to draw attention to herself and giggle about it afterwards.
Once, she saw GwT hand me her instrument because she could feel the start of a twitch and she didn’t want to break it, not even a minute later she asked a low brass player to hold her instrument so she could jump and scream. She even said to GwT “isn’t having Tourette’s fun?”
I got tired of it, I got tired of my underclassman crying to me almost daily because she feels humiliated. So I confronted Gw/oT. I told her that copying other people’s illnesses isn’t some fun game you can do to get people to notice you and it sure as hell isnt gonna get you the reaction you wanted.
She then decided to report me for bullying to the principal as well as try getting me kicked out of band, using the trope “if she doesn’t leave then I will” and it didn’t work. Because the principal understood my reasons for wanting to protect my friend, I didn’t get in trouble. I was just told to keep GwT safely away from Gw/oT so she wasn’t triggered as much as possible. And eventually after everyone wasn’t acting so surprised by her outburst she eventually stopped it.
I’m using this situation to explain hardships it is for people with actual problems who have to deal with fakers who just want attention. It’s not cool and it’s not right. You’re not awesome for telling everyone you’re sick. When you tell people you’re sick they are there to find ways to help you get better. Not to pat you on the back and glorify the sickness like it’s some prize at the end of a ‘find yourself’ tunnel.
