speaking of third-wheeling i love when people are like "third-wheeled too hard and now i'm in a throuple" but i think a little spoken of third-wheeled-too-hard option is getting adopted by other adults. one time when i was 25 and in undergrad i made friends with a married couple in their thirties and ended up in such an unusual relationship that one day they called me to their house and sat me down very somberly and then one of them started crying and i thought one of them must have gotten some sort of life-altering health diagnosis or something
but then they told me they were getting a divorce and they were going to be okay, but they had been agonizing for two weeks over how to tell me because they didn't want to "disrupt" my life and it was then that i had to remind them that i was actually a fully grown adult and that i was going to be completely okay and that in fact i would like to be there for them in this tumultuous time and they were like
"oh....... yeah"

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court substantially weakened federal limitations on raw sewage discharge into nearby bodies of water. Its 5ā4 decision will, in practice, free cities to dump substantially more sewage into rivers, lakes, oceans, and bays, degrading water quality standards around the country. The majority achieved the goal by rewriting a key provision of the Clean Water Act that has, for decades, protected Americans against dangerous pollution. With that guardrail gutted, the majority effectively greenlit the mass release of human waste into the nationās water supply. As Justice Amy Coney Barrett explained in dissent, the court āoffers nothing to substantiateā its āpuzzlingā conclusionānothing, that is, besides evident sympathy for polluters and callous apathy toward those who will suffer from its decision.
Cruelty really is the point
Really want to emphasize that the City of San Francisco is the plaintiff in this lawsuit. The City of San Francisco wanted to dump raw sewage into the Pacific Ocean so badly that it was willing to get the Supreme Court to further weaken the Clean Water Act. This was not some corporate polluter or private plaintiff backed by a legal group with an agenda. The City of San Francisco is directly responsible for this.
