I remember someone once telling me how much the phrase "Moving forward" irritated them. He said "We're always moving forward! How else can we move?! What a silly thing to say". But this has me thinking, we can move forwards, but we can also move backwards, sideways, diagonally. We can do this physically, we can do this mentally. The only movement we have no choice in, is time. In our experience, time is linear, and only moving in one direction. If time keeps moving forward, and we mentally and/or physically keep going backwards, or even just stay in the same place for too long, we are behind, we are losing time, we're not experiencing all that we can be. If our minds are stuck in a period of time that is long gone, we're not moving forward, we're not moving with the times, we're not experiencing all the joys of the present moment. Likewise, if we don't look after our bodies, we can't go back in time and rewrite the damage...it might improve, but it may never truly reverse. So I say that "moving forward" isn't a silly phrase, I think it should be a reminder to us that we have choices, but we don't have all the time in the world.
