when people defend the âCis white guy is defaultâ thing like âHeâs meant to be an everyman we can all relate to and project on!â kindly remind them the largest ethnic group in the WORLD is Han Chinese and the highest gender percentage fluctuates so if you want an ACTUAL  âdefaultâ you want a 40 year old chinese person whose gender changes from year to year. Â
#give us the middle-aged gender fluid Chinese protagonist that we can all relate to and project on (via @mr-and-mr-pavus)

every time I see some bigshot scientist revealed as a fraud my knee-jerk reaction is "hell yeah elisabeth bik got 'em good" AND IM RIGHT
PubPeer enables scientists to search for their publications or their peers publications and provide feedback and/or start a conversation ano
SHE NEVER QUITS!!!!
ICONIC!!!!
> Elisabeth Bik is on patreon <
She is not directly paid for her work to vet papers, she has been hit with legal action & death threats by scientists who hate that she's exposing them and their financial fraud, and she keeps at it every single day, combing through thousands of papers to make science more fair. Please consider supporting her!
actually beautiful
Elisabeth Bik is a renowned microbiologist and science integrity advocate known for detecting image duplication in scientific publications.
On one hand, FUCK 'EM UP
But on the other, we really need to do something about the perverse incentives in scientific publishing and in academia in general that fuel this.
The top journals only want huge flashy results. You could have the most elegant, well-crafted study imaginable but if it's not a "major advance" it's going to be a tough sell to the upper few tiers of journals. Then consider that number of papers in high-impact journals is a huge factor in deciding who gets tenure track jobs, and for a while now, the number of those jobs has been falling while the number of people competing for them goes up thanks to shifts in the way both universities and research labs operate.
Sure, some of these people were going to commit massive fraud regardless. But if you cared about something so much you wanted to spend the rest of your life working on it, had already sunk at least 10 years into it (likely to the point of being chronically broke and sleep deprived), and you thought your only shot at succeeding enough to even have a chance at continuing was to fudge one little figure... would you really never think about it at all?

PRACTICE URGE SURFING
Huh, didn't know there was a term for it. This explains why I haven't been drinking as much lately.

I swear I get sad if I wake up and one is on the floor
They are exploring under the bed! This is normal stuffed animal behavior, as they are trained to protect you from monsters and shadow creatures, so it's natural that they want to keep an eye out. Don't be sad, thank your friend for doing such a good job.
they have little adventures with the dust bunnys under there
[ID: Image one is of a simple face peering over the edge of something before reaching down to grab it with very wide eyes. Text reads "This is what my plushie sees at 3 AM when I accidentally dropped them".
Image two is of two simple emoji faces sobbing.
Image three is an alien plushie falling down the side of a bed while glowing. Hands reach after it and it is emitting various sparkles as it falls.
Image four is the same plushie now wearing an adventurer's backpack and holding a compass, walking around a cavernous area. Small bunnies made of dust litter the ground.
End ID]
It's pretty hilarious that Yoda looked at Early Clone Wars-Era Obi-Wan and Anakin in all of their complete ridiculousness and apparently was like "yeah, this marriage is for sure ready for children" and tossed Ahsoka at them.
I still can't imagine what was going through Ahsoka's mind once she was about 3 weeks into this gig. She probably had a bunch of friends who were like "WOW I can't believe you got Obi-Wan AND Anakin!! Lucky!!!!" and she was just like "...yep. They are...something."
people who are gay: yeah Iâm gay
people who are straight: yeah Iâm straight
people who are aroace: no no the jedi order definitely makes everyone burst into tears upon mentioning this is a universal experience
Narusasusaku is the best mutual pining ship of all time actually, because all of them think theyâre the odd one out and none of them know how to communicate.
Sakura thinks that her love is unrequited because she will never have the soul bond that either of them have with each other.
Naruto thinks that sasusaku are meant to be. Sasuke doesnât see him romantically and hasnât Sakura-chan loved Sasuke since they were twelve? Thereâs no room for him in this relationship.
Sasuke thinks that after everything thatâs happened, the two of them are better off without him. They both have a close bond without any complications or past turmoil, while he went out of his way to ruin his relationship with both of them.
All three of them would probably pine after the other two members of the not-yet-formed throuple for years before getting together because theyâre all dense as rocks and too busy drowning in insecurity and trauma to see that actually, everything they want is literally in their laps!
You can't prove me otherwise, Kakashi being a â¨FaBuLoUs⨠girldad is 1000000000% canon.
âHaha remember when murder-hornets were gonna be a thing? What a nothingburger.â
Yes, because the Washington state government activated like a sleeper-cell and ruthlessly, systematically hunted them down and annihilated them.
âY2K came to nothing amirite?â
Yes because an army of software engineers working around the clock, losing sleep, and busting ass till the last minute prevented it from happening.
âRemember the hole in the ozone layer?â
You mean the one that was fixed through rigorous world wide government action?
One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those âitâs gonna be an apocalypseâ disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.
The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.
And I still think thatâs going to happen. I donât know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope wonât help bring it about.
And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.
