While the persecution of Jedi in Star Wars parallels the persecution of Jews throughout time in many ways, it is not a perfect analogy, nor do I think it should be. However, there is one difference that can actually reveal a similarity. The Jedi, unlike Jews as a group, have some amount of codified political power and a specific role in the Republic, as well as actual physical power through the Force.
Yet, echoing common propaganda against Jews, Palpatine and others are able to sway public opinion against the Jedi through the false narrative that they have and seek more mystical and political power than they truly do. The claims that the Jedi are attempting to take over the Republic, that they are controlling galaxy-wide politics, that they have secret knowledge that they hide in order to maintain their power, etc., all ring very familiar to anyone with passing knowledge of common antisemitic conspiracies.
So, while the Jedi may have more power in reality, they still have less than they are accused of having, and not enough to save them when these accusations are used to justify genocide.

Shmi in tpm always has dignity, and her agency is emphasized, it's noteworthy. She's still not a main character- she's a role and a messenger more than a person in some ways- but her words and her choices are given respect by both the narrative and the main characters. She conveys several of the central themes and messages of the movies- and the entire series, bookending Vader's eventual choice. When Anakin wants to race, she is the one one who's permission he needs. She and Qui Gon speak quite extensively about Anakin going to the temple, and it's only with her permission that he asks Anakin, and then it's only with her encouragement that agrees. She's constricted by the harshest of circumstances, but her choices are some of the most important of the movie.
And she has this dignity about her.
AotC's presentation of her feels absurd as a contrast. We receive our update about her from Watto, and by the way he tells it, things just happened to her. Our next update is a story of a kidnapping which is an homage to a racist caricature. She is tortured for no apparent reason, a brutal narrative tool to drive anakin to rage. She gets one single scene of her own, and can barely speak. Her death fuels her son to a fate we know she did not want for him. She has no choices and her words do nothing.
It's sort of remarkable to get these two stories back to back.
and then in RotS, Anakin's dreams about Padme are a crystal clear echo of the ones he had of Shmi. This trigger sets his downward spiral in motion, driving the climax of the trilogy. She is never mentioned at all. Anakin has no memory of her words, her lessons.

Do u remember when Mando actually used to take some damage. He gets squashed by a two-thousand pound HUTT in the movie and pops right back up like it’s barely an inconvenience, whereas the entire second episode of the whole series asks the question “How much crap can we put this guy through and how much mud and gak can we coat him in before he physically can’t move anymore.” The only thing that didn’t happen to him was that he wasn’t gored by the prehistoric rhino and the Sandcrawler didn’t run him over but like. the thing I find charming about the jedi apprentice books is the absolute dedication to giving obi wan a taster of literally every other character's personal trauma.
oh you were a child slave? yeah that happened to him. you had to kill someone you cared about to protect innocent lives? yeah he did that at like 13. you were forced to lead children into battle as a child yourself? obi wan did that. you had to live on the run from all factions of a planet torn by civil war? that happened to obi wan like three times.
also as an adult he never once mentions any of this. icon behaviour.

Star Wars really is so boring and not imaginative at all when it comes to gender and sexuality.
Walk with me for a sec: women with no tits bc they lay eggs. A bunch of species where the afab ones are larger, and species where they have "male" voices due to their size. Unisex species where you just can't fucking tell like with some birds. Species that don't have sex and/or gender at all. Species and cultures that have more genders than you can comprehend. You could transition and nobody would gaf because some species do that naturally, anyway. Homosexuality is uncontroversial since a human man sleeping with a human man is hardly weird when he could just as well be sleeping with a Wookiee instead. Or a Twi'lek. Or a Trandoshan.
The "rules" we're familiar with should become near obsolete in a multi-species universe if you think about it. There is SO MUCH and we're barely scratching the surface here!!
