My submission for a new simplified American Dollar bill design which could begin printing as early as 2027
how would they make the text go out the dollar bill?-
Okay wise guy
Alright
Like this, duh
My least favorite new politically correct term is "unhoused." Like you can just tell it was created to make liberals feel less icky when talking about homeless people.
I was homeless. I was homeless as a child and as an adult. That shit sucks believe it or not.
The uncertainty. The ever-present grimy feeling from lack of access to running water. Having nothing to your name. The shame you feel is asking your fellow man for the bare minimum. Just so much shame, man.
"Unhoused" is so clinical. A technical term. Sure, its not incorrect, but it doesn't properly convey the emotional and psychological impact homelessness has on you.
You say "house", I think of a structure.
You say "home", I think of stability.
"Unhoused" definitely feels like you're skirting around the emotional/mental aspect of the situation. It makes sense when you need to differentiate between people who have shelter (like a hotel room or a friend's couch) and those who live on the street, but that's not really a differentiation most people need to make when discussing the issue? That's a differentiation that would be most useful for like legislation or community support work and such.
you think you're sooooooooo funny huh? well you are. i find you a delight to be around and im glad you have the self confidence to recognise it. i love you.
If you are a PET trying to help your HUMAN just remember the acronym WAY
Are you in the Way?
Are you in the wAy?
Are you in the waY?
If the answer to all three is YES then you are HELPING 👏👏👏
"Get a job"
❌️ ableist
❌️ encourages capitalism
❌️ people can be losers and be employed
❌️ makes being jobless sound like a moral failing
"Get a hobby"
✔️ keeps disabled people who can't work in mind
✔️ does not encourage capitalism
✔️ if they already have hobbies you can tell them to get a new one
✔️ encourages a better use of autonomy and freetime
just because you’re not where you want to be yet doesn’t mean you haven’t come far
I often beat myself up about this but when I look back I realize I’m so much better than I was in 2022/23, and I don’t give myself enough credit for that
So can non-disabled people stop doing that thing where they act like it’s morally righteous to force yourself to work while you’re sick and assume taking sick days automatically equates to laziness. Any time now. That’d be great
The leader of the scout group I help out at approached me out of hours while I was walking to work to tell me that people have been talking behind my back because I missed more sessions than I attended this term (on account of having Covid twice) and was like “We all show up when we’re sick because we take responsibility” and I felt really shitty and guilty and cried the whole workday then I got home and told my mum and she was like “So they want you to throw up on the kids? That’s dodgy. They don’t even pay you. Stop going” and a wave of serenity hit me like a bus
for real!! if you have the ability to stay home when sick, you absolutely should. Not only for you but for your community?? Why do something you know will spread illness when you could just... stay home. I had the grind culture bro
Hate it when ai is funnier than me
The Germans really cooked making "Hobbyless behaviour" an insult. It is both devastating, applicable to a wide range of people and behaviours, and doesn't resort to swearing.
Man ranting on the internet about the Superbowl halftime show or complaining that something is "woke"? Hobbyless Behaviour. Girls mocking another girl for not looking right? Hobbyless Behaviour. Mindless vandalism? Hobbyless Behaviour.
It is more powerful than "get a life" or the English "You're Sad" because it gets to the central point of the matter, and that is wonderful. Danke, Deutsch.
Euripides (Tr. Anne Carson) / @wholeheartedsuggestions / Jenny Slate / Euripides again
I like that english speakers can say anything with a "y" and it's understood as an affirmative. yep. yurp. yee. ya. yurr. yay
