my favorite part of tumblr is the ability to log out.
it feels like a novelty these days.
just,
hover
click
and BAM!
logged out.
spring is coming
these days,
i lie
in bed.
and watch the world pass around me.
it feels like peering into a snow globe, or a times capsule, people darting to and fro.
the trees wave at me sometimes. and the wind sometimes darts in and fluffs my hair in hello.
the birds cheep and chatter and excitedly announce their joy.
and this is how i know winter is nearing its end.
< i wonder if i will live to see the cherry blossoms bloom.
i want to touch the soft petals slowly unfurling. >
i want to squish my feet in wet dirt.
and exclaim over the ants and ladybugs crawling on my forearm.
i want petrichor, and a brisk cold that shivers down my spine, leaving my cheeks flushed an apple red.
i want so many things these days.
some so badly.
i try to be content these days.
i tell myself,
"this is enough, being here is enough, simply living, is enough"
i breathe deeply.
and look out my window once more.
i close my eyes.
i shut the curtains--
and turn over.
Spicy-brained friends, I would like to propose an update to the very useful ‘if you hate everyone, eat, if everyone hates you, sleep, and if you hate yourself, shower’ mantra to live by
Have you suddenly become a petty, hateful little gremlin who thinks people should face the firing squad for (checks notes) leaving teabags on the counter, breathing loudly, or daring to exist in the same space as you? Perhaps mundane and reasonable requests like ‘hey, we agreed to hang out now, let’s hang out’ make you want to scream and move to a yurt in the woods.
You. Are. Overstimulated.
People talk a lot about being overstimulated, and the physical/mental effects of it. What I haven’t seen is people talking about what it does emotionally, and it took me an embarassingly long time to link up those nitpicky, resentful emotions with the state of overstimulation/meltdown/shutdown.
These feelings do not mean that you’re a bad person! They probably aren’t how you actually feel about the people around you. They probably do mean that your nervous system is at its absolute limit and any request/demand/stimulus is Too Much and taking you into fight or flight territory.
Go lie down in a dark room for an hour, or find somewhere safe and familiar to stim for a bit. If it’s happening a lot, schedule yourself regular low-stimulation shutdown time
Signed: someone who moved in with their nearest and dearest only to have a massive crisis of faith about Suddenly Hating All of Them. I don’t hate them, it’s just overstimulating living with people. If I can spare anyone else a similar 9 months of suspecting that they may actually be a bit of a shit person, then this post is worth it!
well then, guess this explains things about my sibling LMFAO
They're doing the same to teachers & nurses in the UK. As one of those degree professionals, I celebrate a higher minimum wage and criticise the lack od incentive or reward for being a professional
I taught eight years before I became too sick to continue. I have four college degrees, and the loans were massive.
When I went before the judges for my disability hearing they asked why I had been teaching when I made so much more doing fast food work. (Me: Because I loved teaching.)
Minimum wage needs to be higher. Teacher pay needs to be higher.
Capitalists are always pitting us against each other. We need to stick together.
Minimum wage needs
to be higher. Teacher pay
needs to be higher.
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
teachers deserve the heavens and the earth with the love, care and effort they pour into students. it is truly thankless, back-breaking work.
this act of living
this living, this act of life is a (great) [big] hard thing.
we eke out these miserable days in our miserable lives.
this act of living is indeed a (great) [big] hard thing.
slowly by slowly this life unfurls---dramatically and [sometimes] slowly
--
the annals of our lives are laid bare.
(and so) we begin,
book 1, chapter x.
we do not know its end.
FIN.
“In 1404, King Taejong fell from his horse during a hunting expedition. Embarrassed, looking to his left and right, he commanded, “Do not let the historian find out about this.” To his disappointment, the historian accompanying the hunting party included these words in the annals, in addition to a description of the king’s fall.“
LMFAOOOOOO rip to that guy
i thought maybe this was fake, but there’s even a citation!
Taejong Sillok Book 7. 5th year of King Taejong’s Reign (1404), February 8.
Happy 618th anniversary of the day King Taejong fell from his horse!
Apparently the recorders were really intense about this. We have a record of King Taejong complaining about a recorder who followed him on a hunt in disguise and another who eavesdropped on him behind a screen. No one was allowed to see the records, even the king (one king did and killed five men based on what was written there, after which they took greater care to ensure it would never happen again), and changing the content or disclosing it was a capital punishment. Even when there were rival political factions trying to influence the writers, they wrote down what was a revision and what wasn’t and kept an original version with no revisions in it.
They also made sure to back up their data. They made four copies of it, then when three copies were lost in the Imrim Wars they decided to make five more copies just in case. One copy was destroyed in a rebellion, another was partially damaged in an invasion, and Japan stole one copy during their occupation and moved it to Tokyo University, where it was mostly destroyed in the Kanto Earthquake (47 books remained and were returned to South Korea in 2006). Now the whole thing is digitized, free on the internet, and translated into modern Korean for all to see.
It took centuries of meticulous recorders, justifiably paranoid copiers, absolutely determined historians, and painstaking infrastructure for this joke to be possible. Happy 618th anniversary to the day King Taejong fell from his horse.
this is Hilarious to me because anytime i see people complaining ab history or history class, its bc y'all are not doing the readings where the juicy bits are hidden !!!
Disability Tip #9
Get water into your body however you can.
Being dehydrated is bad. Being dehydrated and also sick is worse. If drinking straight water sucks for you, here are some suggestions from around the internet to help you out:
- Get a large reusable bottle with a straw. If you tend to be pretty stationary throughout the day, a large bottle of water with a straw is a really good choice. The straw allows you to drink without stopping whatever you're doing, which I find to be really useful when I'm doing something that requires my focus.
- Juice or milk. Milk is actually pretty hydrating. If chocolate or strawberry milk is something you crave often, it's ok to reach for it for hydration. Juice can be high in sugar, but if you pick one that doesn't have sugar added, it's really not that bad.
- Soda. Yes it does provide some water. Make sure to brush your teeth often if you're drinking a lot of soda because the carbonation can wear down on your teeth after a while.
- Fruit. Melons, especially watermelons, and citrus like oranges are high in water, but really any fruit will hydrate you a little. Veggies also provide some water, though less.
- Ice pops. On the track of eating your water instead of drinking it, ice pops have really helped me stay hydrated. They taste good, they're easy to eat, and they provide a decent amount of water.
- Soup or broth. Sweet things not really for you? Try something savory! Broth, especially low sodium broth, can be a great hydrater.
- Water additives like mio, kool aid, cocktail bitters, lemon slices, mint leaves, etc. Get creative! My dad drinks almost exclusively orange iced tea, made with an iced tea mio and a package of unsweetened orange kool aid. Mix and match some things until you find a drink you'll want to drink.
Feel free to add your own hydration tips as well! The disabled community is always searching for new ways to get water intake up.
that guy who went to space and said something along the lines of how it shattered his illusions about the wonders of the universe entirely because it was just cold and empty and dead and vast and everything worth marvelling at was back down on earth. yeah
I LOVE ANIME
the absolute quality of anime blows me away nowadays, when i stop to think of it i am bowled over with how much love effort and dedicated is poured into it. the fight scenes, the sharp frames, the hyperrealistic backgrounds, THE CAMERA ANGLES IN ANIME???
*chef's kiss*
absolute top-notch.
i spend way too much time pausing different frames and absolutely admiring the effort.
THANK YOU TO THE AMAZING STUDIO WORKERS!!!
(brought to you by many many animes but the lastest one being buddy daddies. GO WATCH <3)
these winter days
these days,,, these long cold and winter days, all i think of is the specter of death. i think of it quite frequently as we grieve and mourn and remember in this frigid season that hails rebirth.
i think of the right to forgotten, and the right to be remembered, and how we balance both things.
i think how much of humans, our lives our joys--how much of past humans all we have is mere smidges of traces left behind.
of what traces, if any, i will leave behind.
will it only be a gravestone?
will it be unmarked printed photographs?
will it only be a name that some descendant of the lines will remember, cherish and keep?
i am desperate to know those who came before us.
perhaps it is because i am deeply, passionately in love with humanity, in all its joy and wonderful luster.
these cold winter days.
i sit, i hibernate and i ruminate.
of what is to come.
HarperCollins Strike Update
For the full breakdown of what’s been going on since November, read here.
January 20, 2023
It’s been over FIFTY days. The strike is still ongoing. Harper has yet to even speak to the union.
Union members are still scraping on their second and third hustles (which most entry-level publishing people have) and donations to the strike fund. The union has set up a hardship fund (here’s the post about it on their official Instagram, for verification) so no more fiddling with checks or Venmo.
If you can donate, please do.
And whether you can or can’t, please do still share.
Reminder that big publishers have seen record profits in the last few years. None of these have trickled down the the editors, marketing, design, legal, and more that are essential to getting a book published.
The strikers are asking for three main things - better pay, a bigger commitment to diversity, and more security for the union. That they’ve been striking for this long and can’t even get that shows widespread problems in the traditional publishing industry.
Please support and boost where you can. Everyone involved in getting you your favorite books deserves a fair wage and better job security.

I miss when library books used to have little paper pockets inside with a list of all the people who borrowed it and when... I hate that this is now exclusive knowledge of librarians. I do care that a miss Mariana borrowed this book in 1985 and then Dario in 1997. They're my brothers and sisters

Animes that have positively impacted me (To Be Updated)
(in no particular order)
Ranking of Kings (2021)
boji is the best <3, this show presents a remarkable twist on traditional tropes, but it does not shy away from gruesome realities. though the storyline does seem dark at times, there is an almost grim humor behind it tied in with lighthearted and sweet moments. ranking of kings is one of the first animes that comes to mind with a disabled MC (D/deaf), who uses accurate sign language and is an integral part of the storyline rather than beign relegated to a side-plot. boji is not treated as disability inspiration nor as disability porn but as a young lad who grows into himself. although the art style at first turned me off, thinking it was mainly marketed at young teens/children, i decided to give the trailer a shot the second time i saw it and fell in love with the story! make sure to give it a watch~
2. Barakamon
okay so one of my most vividest memories, (that i sometimes feel like i hallucinated) is i'm either in kindergarten or first grade, at the school assembly.
i think they were giving out student of the month awards ??
anyways, the teachers names i think were randomly drawn out of a hat.
and they entered into this gigantic plastic rectangular thingy, very big, that had real money, REAL UNCLE SAM MONEY!!! being whipped around (giant motor in the corner)
and the intensity of it would go slow to very very fast, and the teacher, i remember it so clearly, she was jumping around grabbing fistful wads of cash, putting some in her shirt, some in her pocket LOL
whatever they grabbed they got to keep
i still remember the sheer ecstatic jubilant joy on her face
i only remember flashes of this, but did anyone have something like this in their school?????
