thanksgiving is a holiday based on a falsified narrative full of white guilt and the erasure of history so what are some good native organizations to donate to this coming thursday
organizations recommended by @loneghostkid
native american rights fund
heyday berkely roundhouse
news from native california magazine
national indian child welfare association
california indian legal services
the national indigenous women’s resource center
please also consider looking into funding native/tribal food sovereignty projects if you have food to donate or money to spare. friends, please add more if you know of them and have links to provide:
native american food sovereignty alliance
meskwaki food sovereignty initiative
friends of pine ridge reservation
first nations development institute
you can also buy food/gifts from indigenous sellers or donate to gofundme fundraisers made by indigenous people who need help getting groceries, paying medical bills, or paying rent. do something to help us and our communities.
try water projects too, like the navajo water project: https://www.navajowaterproject.org/
Help DigDeep bring clean, running water to hundreds of American families. Nearly 40% of Navajo don't have a tap or toilet at home. We can fi
a lot of reservations are fucked over on water by illegal oil drilling, pipelines, or other breaches, like in the navajo rez’s case: contaminated by illegal uranium mining.
I would like to put my endorsement to the Sovereign Bodies Institute, home of the database of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. The database is trans-inclusive, the data protocols follow the desires of the families of MMIW, and this holiday season, they are collecting donations to buy gifts for the families, especially the children, of missing and murdered women.
I’d like to add Feeding Nunavut, the cost of living in the isolated north for Inuit is up to and sometimes over 5x the prices the rest of Canada is used to.
verbalizing general guilt isn’t an apology or making amends and if that’s all it takes for some of y’all to move on, then yeah, I’m gonna worry about it, cause we collectively deserve better than that.
“I’ve caused problems” “it’s my fault” yeah. And? You gonna actually do anything about it besides that? oh, no, is that it? Are we expected to just.. collectively move on from this bc you.. verbalized your part in things going sideways? Yeah? alright then😐
Like if y’all are accepting the verbalizing of guilt as all the apology you need, then yikes. Cause y’all deserve better than that. A verbalization of guilt/their part in things as the “apology” and then being expected to go right back to whatever we’re doing is weird and unhealthy.

The Directions Tree was something that was also called a Spirit Tree, a tree of huge spiritual and cultural importance to Australian Indigenous people. When a child is born, the afterbirth/placenta is taken by the child's parents and mixed with earth and a single seed, which is then planted. The tree and the child grow up alongside each other, and the two of them are spiritually connected. Its a place where the individual can go and reconnect with themselves and the land; a place they can go to seek direction and guidance throughout their life.
After the child has grown up and grown old and eventually passed away, their tree becomes a place that their family and friends can go to connect with that person's spirit - where later generations can go to remember and connect with their ancestor. Its a place of enormous spiritual significance to the Djapwarrung people.
The Directions Tree pictured above was one of the last - if not the last - remaining Directions Trees in Victoria. All others have been destroyed. She was somewhere between 300 to 350 years old.
She was destroyed on 26 October 2020 -- against staunch opposition from the Djapwarrung community, who were not consulted at any stage in the planning process and who's concerns and objections were ignored for over three years.
There were protectors onsite on the day of the destruction, and they were violently removed. Their campsite -- which was an officially registered Embassy, and which has been their home for nearly three years -- was blockaded off and destroyed, and they were not allowed to go in and get their belongings, or their wallets and ID, and any of their other important items.
Children were violently separated from parents -- parents who tried to get through the police line to get to their crying children were told "you can get them later." One protector's arm was dislocated by police. One young man was grabbed by the hair and dragged away, even though he was not resisting arrest in any way.
It's now been nearly a week since the Directions Tree's destruction. Police and hired Security Guards are still blocading access to the campsites and the Embassy, despite the fact that we've managed to get an injunction preventing any more destruction from happening between now and November 19. The trunk and branches of the Directions Tree have been taken away by VicRoads and we dont know where she is.
Here's an article about the destruction of the Tree and the arrest of the protectors. Note: Eastern Maar Coorporation are the Registered Aboriginal Coorpoation who greenlit this destruction and who were bought off long ago, and nothing they say should be given any weight.
There are still multiple trees that need protection. Grandfather Trees, Birthing/Grandmother Trees, scar trees, and a host of other culturally important trees and landscape that we are trying to save.
Please donate to help support protectors.
Funds will be used for food/water/shelterfor protectors, and to pay for fines issued to people who were arrested/charged for trying to protect the area, and pay for other requirements that mean that these peopls can keep protecting the sacred land and trees.
Please raise awareness of this issue -- spread this post, talk about it on other platforms, etc.
Heres a link to an email form that will email various MPs and ask them to protect what's left. Please remember to change the subject line -- often, politician offices will set up rules to direct mass emails straight to the trash, but changing the subject line and/or body of the email will circumvent this. Feel free to delete the pre-filled message body and replace it with your own message instead, if you like.
Here are two petitions to protect the trees.
Genocide is still happening to Australia's indigenous people, and its happening today. The destruction of the Directions Tree was a deliberate, targetted attack. They hoped to break us and defeat us with this destruction. They hoped that by destroying her, we would give up and let them destroy the rest of the area.
But she was a Spirit Tree, and her spirit has gone into all of us who've spent the last several years trying to protect her. We are not done fighting. We've got more to protect, and we will not yield.
The 700-900 year old Grandfather trees still need us, the Birthing Trees who have sheltered 50 generations of Djapwarrung babies still need us. They murdered the Directions Tree, but that's just fired us up even more.
Stand with the Djabwarrung, and help us save these remaining sacred trees.

update!!
After seeing the dad how do I channel, I really wanted this one. I searched for it and, tada! Mom how do I? Seems rather new, but I love it anyway.
This is such a cute and helpful idea, especially since some people either didn’t grow up with someone who could teach them this stuff or they grew up with parents who did everything for them. I knew a lot of guys in college who didn’t know how to do laundry or cook!
i just checked out her channel and she made a fantastic video on menstruation without gendering it! the comments are full of trans men and nonbinary people appreciating that and her responses are very polite :)
WHOLESOME
Remember that time Pink Kryptonite randomly turned Superman into a woman and he was just all ‘It’s cool brah’ and continued punching baddies?
I cant believe superman has a magical girl sequence
Superman, in his normal deep voice: “I can work with this.”
[continues curbstomping]
I like that they kept Superman Buff even as he was Sailor Superman
I LOVE that thole costume didn’t change! No open belly, no cleavage, no key hole, no thigh high boots! It just shrunk with him because it’s elastic or spandex.
THANK GODS
this is gold

this happened during the pre-chopped era so idk if anyone remembers this but there was this one episode of cake challenge where they had to make birthday cakes for one of the judges and this one contestant HATED that judge so she made this like, giant slab of undecorated yellow cake and stuck a bunch of skewered strawberries on it (i think the judge was like. known to have a scott conant red onions-like relationship with strawberries) and then she set it on fire and presented the burned mess to the judges table. anyways i think about that at least once a month it’s so aspirational
i dont remember the episode name but this was the cake
Okay, so I remember this episode clearly, I had it saved on my DVR till it busted.
Okay, the cake artist here is named Stevie, and she is one of the few I have no respect for. She is an Artiste and italics can’t quite portray the disdain dripping from my mouth when I say that.
To give you a rough example of why i feel that way, let’s go back to her first time on Challenge. The contest was rice krispy treat (*couch* I mean cereal treat) bridges. What Stevie did was have a wooden frame tilted at an angle with strings for the bridge cables, which she wrapped in seaweed. Notice something I didn’t include in that description? Yeah, no cereal treats in the cereal treat contest. In fact, nothing really edible at all. In a food challenge. Plus if I remember correctly the thing fell and broke. So yeah, she came in last place and actually complained how the win was stolen form her because the judges were too blind for her artistic vision. Yeah. One of those.
So let’s break down this train wreck, shall we?
For starters, it wasn’t terrible on purpose, her initial plan was to show up Kerry Vincent and make her have to acknowledge her superior skill. But things started going wrong almost immediately. take the Strawberry Spikes. Stevie realized her cake wasn’t going to be as tall as the rules required (apparently she read them this time) so she used those to make up the height. The weird crinkly edging, for I don’t remember what reason she plated the outside of the cake in Sugar sheets. I think it was to make it look smooth but it didn’t work out. Especially when she kinda snapped half way through and just started tossing chocolate syrup, honey, and whatever else she could on.
And then the best part. Stevie decided the cake needed candles. And by candles, I mean little ramikins filled with alcohol. Which she lit on fire. Fun fact about sugar sheets - they are highly flammable. So yeah, Stevie set her cake on fire during the judging.
I honestly think it looks better post fire extinguisher.
On the flip side, let’s talk about Jason Ellis, aka the guy who won.
He’d also taken heavy criticism in the past from Kerry. And he built his whole cake around showing her how much he’d listened and improved. He started his planning process not with ‘Birthday cake’ but ‘what do I know about Kerry and what she values in cake’. And made this
Clean, elegant, and precise.
These two cakes symbolize the difference between learning from criticism and getting butthurt.
Reblogging for that last comment, because boy does it merit more attention!
Oh my god, I vaguely remember watching this? But looking at the photos, Stevie’s cake was even more of a dumpster than my mind pictured trying to come up with the memory. Like, holy shit.

can some of y’all please learn the difference between “reblog” and “repost”? These words are NOT interchangeable, and they mean very different things:
reblog: the built-in feature on tumblr that allows you to share a post on your own blog, which automatically hyperlinks the source to OP.
repost: saving, screenshotting, or copy/pasting an existing post and uploading as a new post to tumblr or another website.
Content creators on tumblr really like when people reblog their posts, so that their art/writing/edits circulate to more people and is still easily traceable to them.
On the flip side, it is considered extremely disrespectful if you save a post and reupload it somewhere else. If you want to repost something, you 100% need to ask for permission first (personally, I would ask for permission anyway even if their bio says reposts are ok). Reposting is extremely harmful to artists, and leads to their art getting stolen, uncredited, and sold without them even knowing.

this is fantastic now children in Puerto Rico wont be able to receive the education they deserve thanks to their messed up government
Its even worse than that. I’m living through it. Not only are schools closing, hospitals are collapsing. Only around 9% of the island has electricity and it comes and goes at times.
People are dying in hospitals because of lack of diesel for the generators, a lot of the water is now infected, there are disease outbreaks and scareceness of food. I am safe, but many are not.
Some have water, others don’t. We need help. Sending money would be helpful but what would help even more would be sending water filters, filtering water bottles, food, medicine, if somehow possible diesel.
All of you reblogging this news helps, but what we need is physical help. If you can’t, then spread the word, but God if you can send supplies… Please… PLEASE do. We are dying. Help us, help us save ourselves. Help us save our people. Help us save out ISLAND.
If you’re not in a position to ship or transport useful items to the island (which is sure as heck the case for me in New Zealand) then the best thing you can do is give money to a reputable relief organisation operating in the area.
