PSA the "si" in shared YouTube links stand for Seal Indicator. This means there is a nefarious seal tracking your information and will give YouTube your data in exchange for fish. Please remove the part after "?si=" before you click on it or share the link with others because it is a tracking token!
This is true of any url! You can delete everything agher the ? when you share a url and it will delete all the tracking bits.
would like to add that the stuff after ? isn't always a tracking token, sometimes it contains important info for the link to actually work (e.g. it could contain the video ID). however, try opening a link without the ? string; if it works then there's no harm in getting rid of it 🦭👌
further info for nerds: the ? means "now we will list the parameters." each parameter has some piece of info that affects how the page loads. anything after the ? that's not an = or a & is either a parameter or a parameter value. the format is always [name of parameter]=[value of parameter]&[next parameter]=[next parameter value]
go find a youtube video that's in a playlist, and you'll see something like www.youtube.com/watch?v=GySIToHCPac?list=PLbmM_M6fjs7wkQUz3Sr8e&index=4
the v is the video ID, the list is the playlist ID, and the index is which spot in the playlist you're at! if you don't like the playlist you can just delete everything but the video ID! and if there's an si= at the end of all that, definitely delete it so the seal won't steal your data.

This would have had me crucified on tumblr 10 years ago but maybe we are ready for this conversation now:
If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. Not saying that you need to be a social butterfly- but there is a genuine problem with not being able to order your own meal at a restaurant. And it cannot be solved by always having someone else do it for you.
This is a PSA to about 3/4s of the Portland Youth populace
everyone who reblogs this and is like "I ordered my own tea this week" or "I only barfed once when I had to give a presentation'- you are doing amazing sweetie. Have patience with yourself, you are relearning a skill so difficult that people get 4 year degrees to do it professionally.
I think that the internet is really cool in the sense that it’s just a weird little ecosystem of people saying “hey look at this”. unfortunately the uncool part is sometimes it’s corporations and nazis.

You should also be able to figure out what a text is saying without understanding every word. 90% of the time you'll do just fine even if a word is unfamiliar. You should be able to understand the meaning of a word through context, or at least the meaning of the sentence or paragraph. There are some rare instances where the specific word is crucial, but most of the time it's not necessary to understand the text.
This is a skill you are taught in foreign language classes btw. When you get to a certain level, they give you texts with words you probably don't know yet, and you have to summarise the text without looking any of them up. It really helps with your literacy skills. I can really recommend picking up some books with unfamiliar vocabulary and trying to understand it without looking up words
Learning is empowering, not ableist. Challenging your reading skills is essential, not just some twee hobby. Only about 36% of Americans read even one novel last year. Children's literacy is falling drastically from where it was only ten years ago. We're not progressing as a literate society, we are in active regression to a post-literate age.
Don't think this is just some strange coincidence!
Look for who profits from massive illiteracy: the "ruling" class who believes you should not get to make decisions for yourself.
Don't let a bunch of billionaires and politicians take your ability to read and comprehend difficult books/articles/etc. The American revolution against monarchy only happened because of newspapers and pamphlets that spread information and fomented rebellion. There is a Reason white supremacists did not want black people to learn how to read after they achieved emancipation! They wanted to give them bad work contracts, control their ability to vote, and stop them from communicating their lived experience through the written word. And they are currently Funding and Forcing a literacy crisis even today.
The most punk rock thing you can do is (delete tiktok) expand your vocabulary, read difficult passages that teach you something new, and write down your thoughts and your experiences. It's actively going against the establishment, it's actively wasting a billionaire's money, and learning to communicate through the written word (they can't take away real print books/pamphlets yet but they can delete your blog/facebook page). It empowers you and your community. It's fully essential at this point.
beautiful fanfic authors please learn to space the dialogue correctly. new dialogue from a different character means a new line. beautiful authors please

Hey, I don't know who needs to hear this, but an author being autistic is not a shield, nor an (ableist!) excuse, for being racist, transphobic, misogynistic, and publishing a book filled to the brim with these things.
By claiming a white author is simply "sheltered and autistic" to shield them from criticism for racism and more, you are not only demonstrating White Fragility, you are actively being ableist by equating autstic people as being incapable of learning to.... not be racist or bigoted.
Especially because, you know...
Black autistic people exist?
Autistic trans women exist?
Fat autistic people exist?
Autistic intersex people exist?
Autistic women exist?
And all of these people experience the bigotries in this book, and are all equally capable of *not* being bigoted?
And equally, that autism does not mean someone is inherently bigoted?? ? And insisting that all autistic people *must* be incapable of unlearning bigotry (which is what you are inherently doing, when you try to shield someone from criticism by saying "well you can't blame them, they're autistic")
If someone is autistic and racist, it's not because they're autistic.
It's because they are racist, and refuse to unlearn their racism.
Stop using "the author is autistic" to shield that author from critique on their racism.
Autism is not a shield against critique, and using it as such is inherently ableist.
You are literally infantilizing people, and yourself, if you do this.
If you fuck up and do something racist, and say you can't be held responsible because you are autistic, congrats! You're both racist *and* ableist and no one should trust you to do better, let alone buy your books :)
Autistic trans men exist too. (Once again left out.)
