Like Kinger is most of the time, he's out of it.
Not like that's a bad thing! You still enjoy your time with him and vice versa, but it's extra adorable when you're talking and he spaces out just because a butterfly flew past
Eventually, as you two - mostly you - watch Ragatha and Pomni play volleyball in the water, you decide that you two should join them!! this is the beach bro have fun
Yes the shade is nice but it's also really hot there lmao (is heat a thing in the circus??? I guess 💔) and that water, even digital, would feel GREATTTT
You kinda startle him from his trance, tapping him excitedly and talking about how you two should go play with Ragatha and Pomni in the water, and he agrees
But this time, you notice — you notice everything about him, how could you not? — how his eyes look softer. Real, almost, not.. entranced.
That makes you pause, but only briefly, before you're tugging him into the water, grinning, and calling to the two of the girls in the water, who let you join with smiles
That's when it happens (back in my cast at the beach hcs)
He's playing the game, sure, but he's watching you. Eyes soft, genuine, loving. Eventually, he becomes entranced by you alone
Somewhere in the day, you had managed to reach in his darkness and pull out the real Kinger under all that haze and confusion
And he just now realizes how beautiful you are. So, so wondrously beautiful.
So he ends up not breathing, staring at you instead, which makes everyone look at him, especially you, as the volleyball bounces off his head
And since he's held his breath long enough, he starts to glow, glistening off the water and making your eyes glimmer and shine
You blush furiously, realizing what's happening. You have, quite literally, taken his breath away.
Then the moment is gone, just like that!! you blink, confused by the switch, as he goes back to being the Kinger we all know and love, confused and commentating on butterflies
But for the rest of the day, even when his haze is back, you have a feeling that it just might be a little clearer. Because he still looks at you like he did in the water, even if his brain doesn't know what to do with it.
And because you love him you purposefully hold your breath to make your wacky thing happen, so you can tell him that he took your breath away this time, smiling at his cute little fluster.

she was still searching for the exit, practically digging for it, when ragatha - teary-eyed, of course - comes to find her
Annoyed by another distraction to her search, she initially brushes her off. But after Ragatha is insisting, pleading, even, Pomni finally listens
And she spaces out. Her annoyed posture melting into something just.. existing. Had she heard her right?
"...she abstracted, Pomni. Y/N. The.. the funeral, is.. it's.."
Ragatha is cut off by her tears.
No, no. She has to be wrong. You wouldn't be gone so quickly, would you? No wonder she felt as if something was wrong. Why Caine had moved someone into.. somewhere. She wasn't really paying attention when it happened, looking around for an exit instead
She couldn't have possibly had such an influence on your life, could she? Not that.. not that much. Of course not, she's just Pomni,
But.. Pomni was your world.
And that day, maybe a week ago, maybe less, when she left you she search of an escape, your world had turned to dust.
And if you didn't have your world anymore, what was the point?
so now, as you're gone, she just... doesn't know what to do. If there is anything to do. She thought the exit held top priority, but now, staring at your picture and that stupid little gift she got you around Christmas sitting by it...
She breaks. Silently, of course, but it's noticeable. Shoulders shaking, fists trembling, her teeth biting into her lip to quiet her sobs.

she doesn't bother for the exit anymore after that. Just stares at your picture, at her gift, at you.
She didn't even say goodbye. That was your last memory of her. Her cold words.

Quite LITERALLY denies everything.

So who is that going into the cellar, then?
He stares, pupils smaller than specks of dust, his smile gone for once. He's shaking, trembling, everything so un-Jax-like that it honestly scares the cast
His ears are pinned back as he watches you descend into the cellar. And yes, even though you are an abstraction, looking around frantically and writhing like nothing more than a creature
All he can see is your eyes staring at him. Like it remembers. Like you remember.
The second you're gone, so is he— racing to his room, tripping on everything, as if the second that door swings open, he'll see you there all comfortable and soft and waiting for him
All that's waiting for him is darkness and silence.
The door, digital and not real, creaks as if otherwise. He steps inside, looking around calmly. For someone, for you.
The corner in his room is exceptionally dark. He stares at it longer, focusing too hard that the dark spreads and makes him blink and look somewhere else.
He trudges, stumbling, not bothering to close his door as he collapses on his bed, staring at the ceiling that's dotted with glow in the dark stars.
You always loved the dark. Loved the stars.
Loved going outside to the Grounds with him and staring up at the stars, watching in fascination, as if they were real
So these stars here seem to mock him. He's crying, barely noticing that fact, and just lets it happen.
But it doesn't. It won't. It has before, when Ribbit and Kaufmo went along, when he woke up heaving for air and his eyes glowing and his heart thumping, but...
...it won't this time. The one time he wants it to.
His face crumbles as he sits up, grabbing at his skin, remembering every place you held him and soothed him and— fuck, he's breaking.
If he can't abstract, then he can make it hurt, right? So he claws. Claws at his skin, muscles, veins, nerves, hoping and praying that it'll just come off and go wherever you went so he could just see you again.
He curls in on himself, repeating his pleas and apologies.
He shouldn't have left you. The one good thing in his life.
