I love how a small portion of my personality is absolutely obsessed with lemons and how it has grown into a genuine love for the fruit mostly through pastries/desserts and aesthetics, but it 100% originally came from Deke Shaw and one day I do hope to find someone willing to put lemons on my bed if they like me
just by the way I'm going to be taking a brief hiatus on posting Welcome to the Family, Kid since I have a LOT going on these next couple of weeks. I plan to return May 29th or June 5th. Until then, most chapters are up on fanfiction net under the same name. Thanks for understanding!
feel free to annoy the crap out of me to update my fics. Spam my dms and my posts, tag me and tell me off if I dont give updates. Its prolly the only way ill get stuff done
As they all loaded up into the car, Tech huffed and turned the ignition. He most certainly was not happy about this, but it'd have to do. His whole system was always messed up when one of his brothers decided to tag along. From the front passenger’s seat, Echo gave him a small, pitiful smile. The slight acknowledgement of Tech’s emotions was enough to get him to the grocery store. Once there, however…
“This is chaos,” Tech mumbled to himself, checking the list again to confirm his suspicions that the chips Wrecker had just put into the cart were, in fact, not on there.
“Aww, loosen up, ad’ika,” Hunter requested, though he did put the chips back on the shelf.
Tech smiled very slightly at the nickname. He’d only ever allowed Hunter to use it, despite Echo having been born five months prior to them. Speaking of Echo, he came up next to the mechanic and started to explain the plan until the budget could be adjusted.
“We’ll start with our regulars, then spend the money that usually goes into Hunter’s hair care on toiletries and extra food for Omega.”
Hunter didn’t look too happy about the suggestion but stayed quiet.
“I suppose we could cut back on our movie nights until we get settled,” Tech suggested. “We shall instead spend that money on clothes for her–”
“What’s a movie night?”
Omega, who was riding on the front of the cart, finally looked up to ask an innocent question, but one that jogged memories of an elderly grandfather putting on an old classic for the first time one Friday evening after work. Hunter was quick to explain.
“It’s when we all sit down and watch a movie in the living room together every few weeks. Usually we have popcorn, sometimes candy…”
“Sometimes we have a marathon and watch more than one movie with pizza and ice cream!” Wrecker chimed in, excited about this new prospect. “We hafta show her!”
Tech adjusted his glasses. “It will have to wait. Getting Omega properly fed and clothed is far more important at the moment.”
He resumed pushing the cart and continued along down the aisle as multiple faces fell.
…
“What about furniture? Bedsheets? Books and toys? Is she too young for a phone to call us?”
Echo chuckled.
“I never much figured you one as a parent,” he commented to Crosshair as they were wrapping up.
The others had stopped to the side of the store, trying to figure out what to do since Hunter wanted to knock out a ton of places at once to get the chores off the list, but Tech had pointed out that there currently was no list and that they had frozens. Omega and Wrecker were looking at the candy (forbidden to get anything, of course) while the older two argued for a little while.
“Oh, and you are?” Cross shot back with a bit of venom.
Echo stopped bagging and looked up. “Hey, I’m more qualified than you.”
Crosshair didn’t even try to hide his smirk.
“Says the guy who spent six days faking a fever to cover up his delirium story to get out of trouble with the high school for vandalism.”
“Hey, I did that so Fives wouldn’t get suspended!” He raised an accusatory prosthetic to his half-brother.
“That’s your really your argument? A great example of a role-model. Admit it, you’re just not cut out for this. And if your ‘qualifications’ include little Tano, Rex and Skywalker did more raising than you did.”
Echo was on the verge of literally growling when Hunter came up from behind Cross. Tech followed closely after gathering Wrecker and Omega with minimal lack of cooperation (mostly from Wrecker).
“Okay, knock it off you two. We have a plan now, so listen up, boys!”
All four men stood a little straighter as instinct kicked in from Hunter’s certified Sargent Voice. After a quick glance around her brothers, Omega followed suit. Observant, that one was. Clever and curious, too. She’d be quite the little handful.
“We’ll all head back to the house and put the groceries away, then Tech and I will take Omega out again for the essentials. You three will stay and start putting together her room.”
“Uhhh, Hunter, what room?” Wrecker rubbed the back of his head as he asked.
“Great question. Tech?” Hunter turned to the resident planner as he stepped up to explain.
“The upstairs closet will be an adequate domicile, at least for a few years. It was meant to be a guest bedroom, anyway. Everything in there can go down into the basement for storage.”
Three faces stared blankly at him.
“What?” Tech queried in response.
“We have a basement?” Crosshair voiced the question in their minds.
“Of course we have a basement,” Tech scoffed with an eye roll.
A polite ‘ahem’ from the cashier suggested they get back to bagging. They did so and as they were starting to walk out, a baffled Cross with wide eyes could be heard mumbling “We don’t even get tornadoes.”
here's the rest of the lore for dad Tech and baby 'megs!
Like in season 2, after a small time jump, Tech is still doing jobs for Cid, but Omega’s a little bit older now--walking, talking, all around being an adorable little delight. We get some lovey-dovey scenes of Tech reading to her or teaching her how to pronounce new and hard words, going on walks together, flying with her in his lap, overall just a lot more fluffy domesticity than survial, at least at first.
So Tech meets Phee because of that job on Sorenno for Cid, and he goes and does his best (and is more successful than in cannon but only marginally so and he still gets injured), while Phee stays behind to look after the baby because she is enthralled in the little angel immediately. She starts coming by Cid's a lot more often after that, just to spend time with her "favorite clone." Tech can't tell who she's talking about.
The rest of the Bad Batch do a mission with Cody for the Empire, and after their favorite commander goes awol, they decided that maybe the empire wasn't the best thing after all, too. So they deserted and tracked Tech down, but it took months.
In that time, Tech still has adventures with Omega and jobs for Cid, until he and the kid nearly died because of their employer's neglect (see: 2x09 "The Crossing"). After hearing about this, Phee decided to take the duo to Pabu where Tech chose to settle, giving up the life of a soldier and raising Omega (alongside Phee, as they'd grown significantly closer as of late).
We'd get even MORE domestic fluffly moments, especially now that Omega is talking and can actually be understood fairly well, at least by Tech. Omega’s first word was something close to daddy or brother but the more she started babbling the more names she said, and Phee was overjoyed to hear her name come tumbling out of the little girl's mouth.
Tech and Omega were brought to Pabu a few months before they were in cannon, so the sea surge didn't occur until Hunter and the others found Tech. They'd traced him and seen him on an outing with Phee to get more supplies for Omega and they followed him via tracker on the ship. They had their chips taken out previously (as established in the s1 finale) and just wanted to find a home with their brother. While Tech was skeptical, Hunter sensed the sea surge and they helped to evacuate citizens, even assisting in restoration efforts (see: Sanctuary).
Since the whole team was there together, none of them soldiers or in the Empire's custoday, there's no need for plan 99 and they all just kinda settle, eventually helping out Tech in raising Omega.
Before she can really comprehend family dynamics (partly because Phee insisted Tech was more buir than vod to the little girl and constantly referred to him as 'her daddy' when talking to the little one), from the time Omega was about one until at least four, Tech was 'daddy' and Phee was 'mommy' soley and she didn't start calling them by their first names consistently until she was seven. Even as an adult, though, she still sometimes calls them mom and dad and always talks about them when asked about her parents.
Also, the batch's UTTER SHOCK at--after serious trauma from both the war and the Empire, trying to differentiate between their own choices and the ones the Empire made for them, their loyalties and how could we ever have left our brother?--being met on Pabu with Tech having a babbling toddler (who they knew nothing about since Tech kept her secret wanting to protect her) calling him daddy and a random woman seeming to fill the motherly role who also was calling their brother affectionate nicknames...they were happy for him of course, but really kriffing confused at what they'd missed.
It still didn't quite settle in until Phee and Tech got married a little later lol.

Okay but imagine everything about the season two finale plays out exactly the same EXCEPT plan 99. Tech doesn't have to execute it but still gets injured enough that they need to go to Ord Mantell to get AZI (cuz Tech’s kinda the team medic but he's no use in this case if he's unconscious) and Cid still sells them out and Hemlock still takes Omega.
Tech would go feral searching for her, but not in Hunter’s "threaten everybody who gets in my path" way or Wrecker's "destroy everything until we get to her" way. No, Tech would spend countless hours studying star maps and analyzing Imperial data. He'd forget to eat for days claiming he was "so close" or it was "not important at the moment" just to find his baby sister. He gets snippy when things don't go his way. He doesn't sleep. He's constantly upgrading the Marauder so they're in prime condition when they finally find her.
Maybe he doesn't even notice Phee in the way he used to. It just all feels so futile now that Omega is gone. He needs to get her back, he needs to get his brother back, too, before he can think about a future for himself.
Idk, I just think it would have been pretty cool to see.
Warnings: indirect mentions of child neglect? Maybe? I'll tag it just in case
Chapter Three: First Morning with the Fam
When Omega awoke the first thing she noticed was how warm she was. She was never this warm in the morning or in bed, unless she had a fever. But she wasn’t experiencing any other symptoms of illness, so it must not be that.
The second thing that she noticed was how comfortable she was. And she was comfy. It felt like she was laying on a cloud. What had she slept on?
Carefully opening her eyes, Omega took in the room.
It seemed…standard, she supposed. A large window to the right of the bed, dresser and door to the left. A nightstand sat on her right, and a door–to the bathroom, Omega presumed–stood straight across from it. As for the bed itself…Omega had a slight panic attack realizing there was another form there, but quickly calmed upon seeing it was her brother Hunter. He must have stayed with her after she fell asleep to give her some comfort. He stirred suddenly.
“Where am I?” Omega asked him with wide eyes and a curious tone as she sat up to look around further. There wasn’t very much else to see, though.
“Home, kid,” Hunter replied, yawning and smiling slightly as he did so. He sat up alongside her, brushing the hair out of his face and rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“Home,” she repeated slowly, sleepily. “I like the sound of that.”
Hunter’s heart shattered into a million tiny fragments. She’d never heard that word before, had she? He swallowed his grief for her childhood thus far and forced a smile onto his face.
“It’s okay kid, you’re safe here now.”
She smiled slightly at him and scooted over to hug him, only a moment later he let go. After a quick bathroom break, Hunter led Omega to the kitchen where Echo and Cross were waiting with breakfast.
Soon after sitting down and having a plate with bacon and eggs placed in front of the child by Crosshair with a smile, Wrecker came in from cleaning the grill and watering the garden outside. After about ten minutes Hunter went upstairs to get Tech, and another five minutes provided an annoyed oldest and a drowsy genius. Both made a beeline for the coffee pot before settling down at the table.
The meal was quiet. Kind of awkward, with little talk. As Omega was finishing her food, now that Tech had caffeine, the conversation picked up and her brothers started to discuss changes regarding adjusting work schedules so at least one person was home with her, getting her room set up, Echo and Tech changing the budget, and so on. Wrecker took her now-empty plate and let her know she was excused while the others gathered their dishes and Crosshair started scrubbing.
Omega stood and pushed her chair in but stopped. She didn’t know what to do now. Usually after breakfast–or whatever food she could get her hands on in the morning–the young girl would find something to read. While she could see bookcases in the living area, she didn’t know what was off-limits. Most of Mother’s books were, was it the same here? Something soft rubbing up against her bare leg broke Omega out of her train of thought and made her jump back with a small yelp.
“You okay, Omega?” Echo asked, reaching out to steady her when she clutched the table for balance.
Panting, she nodded her head and looked down. She pointed.
“It touched me.”
Wrecker boomed a laugh.
“Aww, that’s just Gonky. He won’t hurt ya!”
Omega looked back at the creature she now recognised to be a cat. He stared back at her with curious eyes and his head tilted to the right. He was missing the tip of his left ear and his fur seemed to be a bit patchy. He yawned, which caused Omega to take a slight step back, but she could see his teeth were spaced out and some seemed to be missing entirely. She pitied the poor thing.
“Would you like to pet him?” Tech had come up to her right and crouched down, looking her in the eyes. “He will not bite,” he added upon seeing the uncertain look in her pupils. She nodded slowly, turning her gaze back to the floof ball.
“You must let him get to know you, first,” Tech explained. “Give me your hand, please,” he requested and the child obliged.
Tech gently folded the fingers of her right hand into a loose fist, and guided her knuckles closer to Gonky’s face. His left hand supported Omega’s elbow while his right stopped her digits mere inches from the cat’s nose. Gonky then proceeded to sniff Omega’s knuckles. She hesitated for a sudden moment, but Tech held her in place.
“I promise that he will not hurt you.” Omega saw the truth in his eyes and allowed the animal to rub his face into her hand.
“Now you may pet him.”
Tech let go but the girl once again hesitated. She looked up at him.
“Will you show me?” She requested.
“Of course.”
Tech nodded and took her hand, unfolding it and guiding it along Gonky’s back gently. He started purring, which surprised Omega, but she continued to allow Tech to guide her hand until she could do it herself. Tech gave Gonky a few chin skritches before standing up entirely.
“He likes you,” Crosshair commented. “Took him weeks to warm up to us all.”
While not entirely true, Crosshair’s point was made. Tech was the only one the feline would purr for until about a month in their home.
“Why is he called Gonky?” the child quiered.
“I suspect that before I found him, his vocal chords had been damaged, likely by another, larger animal or a dog, resulting in an altered peal,” Tech answered.
“His meow sounds like a ‘gonk’ type of noise,” Echo supplied at Omega’s confused expression.
“I said that,” Tech mumbled grumpily, but Omega didn’t hear. Crosshair clasped him on the shoulder and suggested he and Echo get ready to head out. Begrudgingly, Tech agreed and the duo went to their respective rooms to get dressed.
“Where are they going?” the child asked, turning away from the retreating feline and towards her remaining brothers.
“Tech and Echo usually go shopping on Saturdays,” Hunter filled her in, “sometimes with one of us, but not often.”
Omega gasped in excitement.
“Can I go, too?” The smile on her face and hope in her voice cracked Hunter like an egg dropped from the roof.
“Absolutely,” Hunter told her.
“As long as Tech’s okay with it,” Crosshair interjected, knowing how stressful shopping with one extra adult could be for Tech, let alone a child.
“We could make it a family trip!” Wrecker suggested, getting excited.
“Great. Tech will love that.”
The group turned to see Echo walk out, buttoning the last button on his shirt, his sarcasm at the highest level.
“He’ll get over it,” Hunter said, rolling his eyes.
Echo’s right eyebrow shot up in disbelief as he asked, “Will he?”
“...eventually,” the oldest of the boys conceded reluctantly, recalling the last family grocery outing in which the brother in question refused to speak to any of them for around 36 hours.
"Besides, we need to get Omega some clothes and supplies," Crosshair chimed in again, deciding to side with Hunter on this one. A 'Yeah!' from Wrecker made it two against four.
"Ok," Echo sighed and accepted the situation, "but Tech’s not gonna like this.”
"I will not like what?" said brother inquired, finally coming back down the stairs.
"Omega and the rest of us will be joining you this fine morning, vodi'ka," Hunter had plastered on such a karabast-eating-grin it made Tech infuriated, though he could see no way out of it.
"Splendid," Tech grumbled sarcastically. "Don't mess with my list," he said loudly and grabbed the car keys from their stand by the door. "You all had better hurry it up before I leave without you!" He'd called, and the rest of them rushed around to their rooms to get dressed and ready.
doodle to go along with my lore dump for my Dad Tech and Baby 'Megs au!
Current working title: From Brother to Buir
This is the rough storyline for season one's events in this au
With the exception of Omega, the batch were still as they were in the main universe up until order 66. The Clone Wars arc still played out exactly as in cannon, but on Kaller, Tech was the only one whose inhibitor chip didn't activate. This was due to his enhancements creating his "exceptional mind," which negated the effects of his chip while it remained at least semi-operational in the others.
He noticed very quickly that something was very wrong with his brothers, so he took a few matters into his own hands. While he had nothing to do with the padawan getting away in Kaller, he did intentionally sabotage the mission on Onderon, causing him to be arrested once they made it back to Kamino. The rest of the batch went Imperial, angry with their brother's betrayal.
While Tech was in holding, AZI agreed to break him out if he took two-month-old Omega with him, sensing that it was no longer safe for her there. Omega was created after Boba left to be a donor to more clone troopers, which were now becoming obsolete. (Hence the time crunch to get her out) She ages normally, like she does in the show, but she's just a lot younger here. The base of the rest of the first episode plays out pretty much the same, except Tech is the only one on the Marauder escaping while he has just an infant and medical droid with him and next to nowhere to go.
The Batch, unaware of Omega’s existence (though they wouldn't care if they did know) hunt him down relentlessly, but Tech knows his brothers and their habits, so he's able to stay under the radar as much as possible. He still heads to Saleucami to lay low for a rotation or two.
He honestly considers leaving baby Omega with Cut and Suu, because surely they can give her a better life than he can, but if he did he would've truly been all alone after the only ones in the galaxy who knew and loved him betrayed him, and he couldn't have handled that. This is Tech’s kid now, he's going to protect her, whatever it takes. Barely escaping a bounty hunter on Pantora after the child, Tech uses old Republic files to find Cid on Ord Mantell and works for her just the same, with a "mutually beneficial relationship" that goes as well as it does in cannon.
Rex still tracks Tech down and helps him remove his chip on Bracca, where the Batch finally catch up to him. He outsmarts them (barely) and is able to avoid them but Omega is still taken by Cad Bane and if Rex had left just a little earlier Tech would've been Imperial chow. *Note: Rex has a slightly larger role in this au just because some things don't work out quite as well with only the one clone soldier, but he's definitely not there all the time.* With help from Rex, Tech gets Omega back and the two continue to wander the galaxy working for Cid until Rex requests help on a rescue mission: Gregor's. Tech left Omega to AZI at Cid's for safety and got captured, leaving Rex to try and track him down.
Return to Kamino and Fall of Kamino play out mostly the same, just with Rex tracking down Tech and being there in Tipoca City instead of Omega. Gregor offers to watch Omega so AZI is still able to come and guide them back up to the surface with no issues.
The Batch do still mention that they got their chips removed after Bracca when Tech tries to reason with them, but that just instills more adversity as now it was a choice to leave him alone, even though from the others' perspectives it was the opposite
Just as Crosshair was offered a chance to rejoin them in s1, Tech was offered that same opportunity to join the Empire, but in his mind his brothers turned on him and he has a kid to look out for now, so he respectfully declines. He goes back home to Omega and continues to raise her and watch her grow, gently introducing her to more that the galaxy has to offer as she starts walking and talking a little. She babbles just like her Buir.
And that's season one, phew! I have more on the remainder of the show but I just wanted to get this out for now.
