Hi im not sure if someone else have asked this before but whats ur opinion on people telling new writers not to post works on ao3? I see this alot nowadays that people are telling new writers to stop posting on ao3 and it kinda sucks to see that because im too shy to post on ao3 now😭

I’ve never heard of this before and I’m confused as to why they don’t want writers to post on ao3. maybe they don’t like the fact ao3 is completely against censorship? which is the exact reason why so many people—people who understand why censorship is harmful—love ao3.

ao3 is amazing, especially with their excellent tagging systems that you can’t find anywhere else. I love ao3 and personally I’ll always encourage writers to post their fics there and I’ll always recommend it to people.

I haven’t heard this myself, but I have seen a prevailing opinion out in the more toxic fandom spheres in passing that amounts to “quality control.” So basically new writers should stick to Wattpad or other sites and leave AO3 for people who know what they’re doing so readers don’t have to wade through as much “garbage” to find a good fic.

Obviously this is a horseshit argument and is one of the reasons fandom culture is becoming infuriating, but it is a mindset that’s becoming all too common- that AO3 should be for polished works by people who know how to write and everywhere else is where you should be honing your craft to one day be “worthy” of AO3.

And that’s stupid. If you have an account and an idea, you can post on AO3.

the thing that sucks is that people love saying sleep early is good etc etc and yeah it is. I've seen some benefits before. but I think it sucks to ignore that late night is the only time with any freedom. I think it sucks to not acknowledge the dread in waking up and it's a work day again

"fast travel to work" is a great way of putting it. because a lot of people say "but the less time you have at night, the more time you have during the morning!" but your morning is like, getting emotionally ready to get off of bed, taking your meds, taking a shower, making and eating breakfast, going to work, etc. and waking up early will just make you do that stuff early. it won't give you more time to rest, it won't give you more time to talk to anyone, it won't inherently give you anything at all even. sometimes saving up 30-60 minutes before work is just kind of a nothing amount of time. it's like saying extended lunch break is free time. it's not. just because you're not actively working doesn't mean you're not giving your time to your employer

hey so filming people without their consent is weird. you know that right? filming people you don't know and they aren't aware of what you're doing is creepy. posting strangers online is fucking weird. we're too comfortable with doing it now for shits and giggles, chasing some sort of viral hit instead of reckoning with the fact that you posted someone who did not consent to their body and face being publically used.

we're being pushed these Meta Glasses as if mass surveillance of strangers is fun and normal! it's weird!!! there are already reports that people are using these to film women without them knowing and sharing it to communities who get off on this shit. who else knows who people are filming. these glasses with cameras are not obvious and that is dangerous.
