I know the magic in twst doesn’t work this way, but it would be funny if Silver, being born centuries ago, made his magic feel older. It doesn’t change his magic or magical ability, but when he does use magic it feels like its been around for a while (like magic cast 400 years ago).
It’s not something mages can typically sense if they’re not deliberately trying to figure out when a spell was cast on something, but fae can sense it inherently. Thus, Lilia has to figure out a believable excuse for why his young child has the magical signature of a 400-year-old.
Malleus senses it first because he was there when Silver developed his magic. He asks Lilia why Silver’s magic feels older than him, and Lilia says, “Umm, well, sometimes human children will unconsciously mimic the magic signatures of the ones they are closest to, so I guess that means he’s close to us, fae 😁.” Malleus doesn’t fully believe it, but that’s the only semi-logical explanation, so he accepts it (and he’s honestly kinda touched that Silver’s magic would change to fit the fae around him).
Sebek can also sense it, but not as well, so Silver’s magic just feels kind of weird to him. It feels old, but he can’t pinpoint how old. Sebek is young when he comes to this realization and just chalks it up to Silver being a bit of weirdo in general, so he doesn’t think much of it. It’s not a hindrance or can harm him like his sleeping habits, so why should he be concerned if it’s not bad?
Now when Baul visits and sees little Silver practicing magic with little Sebek and Lilia gives his half-baked excuse, he immediately knows it’s bullshit. However, he knows better than to ask Lilia too many questions about his weird cryptid kid unless he wants to get his ass kicked, so he keeps his mouth shut.
