so you like sfawtde right? i'm trying to get into the fandom and i've been wondering, what exactly is it? lemme explain:
is the whole situation fake?
how much of it is fiction?
is wifies content a theory?
Omg I would love to answer!!
Sfawtde is an ARG, which stands for Augmented Reality Game. This is a form of storytelling where people will present events as being real through various forms of media. Avery and Derek’s channels, as well as the google drive with their gameplay, are examples of the Augmented Reality part of it. Neither of them are real people, and all of the gameplay and events are scripted, but they’re presented as being real.
The Game part of ARGs comes from ciphers and puzzles that allow more insight into the story, such as the blocks in Derek’s inventory being a message. Usually ARG creators will create the base media and puzzles and leave the audience to solve them and figure out what’s going on, leading to fan made theory videos like the one on Wifies’ channel.
What’s unique about sfawtde is that Wifies is not a fan theorist. He actually made all of the base media himself, allowing him to have complete control over how the story is told and how things are interpreted. This makes it less interactive than most ARGs where the audience solves the puzzles and lore, so the experience is more like watching a movie. This also has its benefits though, since it lets Wifies tell a compelling story through his narration and editing that just wouldn’t be the same as sitting through 12+ hours of minecraft gameplay…
Sooo TLDR all of it is fiction. Wifies made the story and the characters, but presents them as being real to increase immersion. He uses the theory style video as a storytelling device. As for yaoi… there actually isn’t any romantic content or implications in it at all, but people like the idea of Avery and Derek in a romantic relationship because of their dynamic and devotion to each other.
Hope this helped!! I always love to drag people into niche interests… Thanks for the ask!
Edit: as someone has let me know, the A in ARG is actually short for Alternate, not Augmented! My mistake
