Shoutout to the two coworkers today who casually announced that they were voting for Trump, then asked me who I was voting for. I told them "I did early voting, and I voted for the candidate who isn't going to make it harder for me to exist as a trans person" and both of these women had to awkwardly try and assure me that it wasn't personal, and it's not like they hated Harris or anything, they actually do like some things about her, and they definitely don't hate me, of course not, it's just that, you know, well, it's like, well, you know, it's just, like, and no matter how many times they tried to pass the shovel off to me, I just let them hold onto it

Sadly, a lot of my co-workers are under-informed Trump supporters.

You know the kind, they just have a very surface level understanding of him as a candidate or person. They don't really care about the actual concepts of policies he's suggesting or the overt racism/sexism/everythingism he flaunts. They've just decided there's something they like about him that makes him worthy of their vote and they choose to ignore anything they don't like.

Not indoctrinated, just poorly informed. Not brainwashed, just kind of uncaring. Not part of the cult, just following it from the sidelines.

"Jonah, do you know how a tariff works?"

"In, like, very broad, general terms, yes. Why? Do you need it explained?"

"I was reading something yesterday about it, and I'm not sure if it was right. The article was saying we pay it?"

"Yes, that's how a tariff works. It's a tax on imported goods."

"Okay, but that's a good thing, right?"

"If you're trying to discourage foreign trade, yeah. Or pull in more money for the government."

"But how do we pay for it?"

"Uh. We don't pay for it directly. The company that imports pays the tariff, and then they usually raise the prices on their own shit to make up for the loss."

"But that's going to make shit more expensive. Tariffs are supposed to make shit cheaper."

"They're not. They're supposed to make imported shit more expensive. They're supposed to discourage imports."

"I don't understand this. This was gonna help the economy."

"Well, it might help some parts of the economy, but I don't think you're involved in any of them, so you may not see any of the benefits of the tariffs."

"Okay so. I thought China was supposed to pay them."

"Remember during his first term, when there was all that talk about a big, beautiful wall that Mexico was gonna--"

"Okay, look--"

"No no, hear me out. Remember how there was going to be a big beautiful wall that Mexico was going to pay for? China is going to pay the tariffs in the same way that Mexico paid for the border wall."

oh yeah, I heard this story getting read out on youtube. it got bad. a few highlights:

BF broke up with EX about 5 years ago. this used to just be his apartment

GF, having apparently never seen a horror movie in her life, goes to confront BF immediately. BF tears the note up, lays out the old "My Ex Was Crazy" story, and then IMMEDIATELY starts dismissing GF's concerns and blaming her for "not trusting him" just like the note said he would

GF knows who EX is, makes contact. they meet up and start comparing notes. sure enough, the reason why GF was cleaning the apartment initially is because BF hadn't, and always had a reason not to locked and loaded

turns out EX had left three notes; the one in the cabinet, one underneath the vacuum cleaner, and one in the crumb catcher of the toaster. GF never saw the vacuum note, meaning BF caught it, got rid of it, and then never mentioned it or even bothered to do a sweep of the apartment to check for other surprises. motherfucker really hates cleaning

GF, who has still not ever seen a horror movie, confronts BF about the vacuum note and some other things that EX mentioned that escape me presently

BF's mask slips completely, starts getting loud and violent. GF tries to leave apartment and BF physically prevents her from doing so. I believe police were called because they got so loud, GF eventually manages to bug out

GF, having now finally seen a horror show, decides to break up with BF. with EX's help, plus some help with the landlord, she goes back a few days later when BF isn't home

the apartment is a mess. BF trashed her stuff, shredded all her clothes, the works. she had pets, frogs and a snake? their enclosures are open and they're loose in the apartment; BF probably figured the snake would eat the frogs but no, the frogs are Vibing and the snake is hiding scared in a corner. none are injured, fortunately, but the BF also keeps pets and GF can't believe he would put animals in danger on purpose

GF and Ex salvage what they can of her stuff, get frogs and snake in travel carriers, pack up everything to move and as a final "fuck you" leave the rest of the mess as-is and put several more notes in places that the BF would find if he ever fucking cleaned

Also, this is just a horrific violation of sexual autonomy, no matter who it is done to.

If someone who sexually abused others wants to be castrated because they think it will help them with changing as a person, that's one thing. But mandating as a punishment is wrong. And it seems to me based in the idea that sexual assault and abuse primarily comes from "evil" sexual desire, instead of the pursuit of power over others.

It's like saying that people who have physically abused children should be paralyzed, or that people who have emotionally abused children should be given severe brain damage. It's just about trying to solve a complicated issue (how do we get people who hurt others to change) with a cartoonishly simple solution that appeals to emotion. Can we please get some fucking transformative justice?

There’s something else, something they might not even be fully aware of themselves. The real quiet part is that if it was *their* child or *their* ectopic pregnancy they’d pull out all the stops to save their life or get their grandchild aborted. Planned Parenthood sees reactionaries and regressives all the time, and they are every bit the nightmare patients you’d imagine them to be. But the one thing all those patients have in common is that *their* abortion is *justified*, and the next week they’ll be outside the clinic again, rejoining the protestors for “killing their baby”.

It’d be one thing to have ghoulish principles, but the far-right have none at all.

When I was younger and had more time to waste on the internet, and spent a lot of time in various online forums getting into arguments -- on purpose -- I made up a game I called Six Degrees of Slut.

The game (which is a variation on the well known Six Degrees of Bacon) was very simple. In any discussion of abortion, see whether you could get the other side to articulate, within six back-and-forth exchanges, some variation of The Filthy Sluts Must Be Punished. Regardless of where their argument started, the goal of the game was to get them to admit that.

I never once lost a game of Six Degrees of Slut. On a few occasions the match was inconclusive - the other person left off arguing before we reached round six - but I never lost; I never once reached six rounds of debate with a prolifer without them expressing some variation on this sentiment. But what was really remarkable to me was, a lot of times, that there was no effort involved at all -- they would blurt it out themselves, with effectively no provocation.

Scratch a prolifer, and you'll find right under the surface the conviction that The Filthy Sluts Must Be Punished. I have never once yet found an exception. Sometimes you don't even have to scratch.

Ryan Gainer was a 15 year old Autistic Black boy who was shot and killed by police in California.

Ryan seemed to have been having a meltdown, he was holding a gardening tool, police were called to the house but they are refusing to release any body cam footage of the shooting and refusing to state how many times Ryan was shot, they failed to help him before the paramedics arrived.

After shooting him Ryan's family was then forced out of their home while the police rummaged through their house looking for any justifiable cause for shooting Ryan.

This is hardly the first time the San Bernardino police department has attacked or killed people having a mental health crisis.
