You don't know how, but your dorm room has never been cleaner. That is, until one night when you get up to use the bathroom, you spot a tiny hand reaching up from under the coffee table and grabbing for a slice of pizza and a bottle of beer you'd forgotten to put away. You know the Rules well enough to know to keep quiet - besides, people might think the wrong thing if you tell them you've got brownies in your room.
Oh my gosh this is precious
It started with cleaning, and leaving food and drink out intentionally. After all, appeasement is one of the basic classical tenets of dealing with Them.
It started so simply. Youād leave food and drink for the Brownies and they would clean the room. But as you noticed what foods they ate all of and which they seemed to accept more symbolically, you changed what you left for them. It seemed polite.
It started with mending old shoes, which you dismissed as being part of the trope. But they repaired, then upgraded your old laptop. Your cheap comforter was replaced by good a nice wool blanket. It became more than just cleaning.
It started with dreams. Then you werenāt sure what was real. An entire day turned out to be a dream. A dream turned out real. Scars faded but sleep didnāt provide ease.
It started again in sophomore year. You kept up the pattern because you didnāt know what the cost might be. But as the semester stretched, you grew desperate. You had to take a risk, uncalculated, grasping.
It started with a letter. It spoke of appreciation and praise. It admitted weakness and a need for a more casual relationship. It begged not to be left alone, but to parlay.
It started when you got back to the dorm, and found a small Person sitting on your bed. They smiled and apologized, and asked to start again. Maybe this time with boundaries.
It started when you realized all Fae were alien to your reason, but they were not all malevolent.

Chamomile: Soft, sweet and gently soothing, chamomile works to restore a sense of peacefulness and ease.Ā Easy-going and well liked, your calming presence puts others at ease. When troubled, you might hold nervous tension in your stomach.
You Are: Easy-going, friendly and well liked, youāve got a gentle and sweet nature and a calming presence that puts others at ease. Your sensitivity to others may cause you to take on too much of other peopleās feelings, though, and you may even be prone to worry.
Echinacea:Ā A bold flower with a tough stalk and tenacious roots, echinacea is as strong as it is beautiful. Your amazing blend of optimism and goodwill lends strength to those in need. Youāre the one others always turn to for support.
You Are: A protector. With an amazing blend of optimism, nurturing and goodwill, you lend your strength and energy to those in need. Your seemingly infinite goodwill and boundless supportive energy make you the one people turn to when times are tough. Your greatest strength is, of course, also one of your weaknesses, especially if you neglect to take care of yourself. At times like these, itās a good idea to take a step back and focus some of that protective energy on yourself.
Nettle:Ā You may put up a bit of defense at first. But those who take the time are rewarded with your kind disposition and unending support.
You Are: Truly a nurturing and supportive friend, youāre the kind of person that just isnāt for everyone. But those who take the time are rewarded with your gentle disposition, and the kind of friendship that does a person good no matter the difficulty theyāre facing. When out of balance, you can become more prickly than supportive or nurturing, thoughāa sign that you need to shower yourself with the same kind of nurturing you so freely give to others.

āDonāt drive in New York if you donāt have to,ā Aurora said, quoting her aunt. And basically everyone else sheād met who lived or worked in New York City. Having lived here for a brief period, she understood why. But it seemed within the realm of reasonable to Faidra, so that was good enough. Ira gathered up all the empty boxes into a bag while Aurora straightened up; together it only took a few seconds, and then they were out the door. The room was probably cleaner than it had been when they arrived. She left the key on the front desk, both it and she ignored by the guy behind the counter, but she said thank you anyway.
Faidra could see why people would prefer not to drive here. In the past, it used to take her more than forty minutes for the five miles from the restaurant to her apartment. Nowadays, after Faerie, cars seemed to clear out away from her and there was always a spot to park where she wanted. There were hardly any queues in the bank or the store, and in general things had been made a lotĀ easier.
It scared the shit out of her.
Still, it wasnāt something she could stop so she continued taking advantage of it until she could ask someone. She supposed she could ask Lif now...
After this adventure, maybe.
She led them to a tiny, powder blue, Italian car, squinting at the pixies that had reappeared after Aurora was checking out.
They were shivering.
āYou guys are gonna be okay in the car?ā
āDartās bones hurt. Noooo.ā
"Better follow you from above,ā Lif said and zoomed off into the sk, dragging Dart along.

They got that reaction a lot: amusement mixed with confusion and strange mental images. And that was when people didnātĀ know how their abilities.Ā āSort of faery tobacco,ā Aurora said, happy she didnāt pick up on the other part.Ā āMakes me veryĀ happy.ā
āAnd high as a kite.ā Ira rolled his eyes. Slight exaggeration, but only just.Ā āNo, we⦠walked.ā Across the Atlantic is less than half a second, yes.Ā āBest if we take yours.ā
Faidra squinted,Ā āYou walked,ā she repeated but then shrugged, putting both that and the āhigh as a kiteā comment on the side for a moment. No judging on her part. She entertained a thought of calling a very stoned personĀ āYour highnessā for a second, something that made her giggle, then gestured them out.

Ira leaned back, eying Lif before glancing at the others with a look of āis this normal?ā Since Aurora didnāt react much in the way of wariness or adjusting personal space, he figured it was. She smiled sheepishly, both about the malustaria and the reasons she might smell Unseelie. How long would that linger, she wondered. āCouldnāt stand cigarettes after I came back.ā
āIs that why you ordered a pipe that makes you look like Sherlock Holmes and Gandalf had a baby?ā Ira said, amused.
āPart of the reason anyway. Can we go? Iād like to get away from this skeevy hotel room.ā
Faidra giggled then her brow furrowed, probably trying to imagine what a Gandalf slash Sherlock baby would look like. Probably interesting. She liked both those characters.
āThe fuck is Malustaria?ā she asked Ā then looked around at their surroundings and nodded,Ā āYeah, letās go. Do you have a car? I have mine parked right outside.ā

Lmao this American girl walked up to a Hungry Jacks (Burger King) register with her drink and really, really loudly (I was at the other side of the place) proclaimed: āI asked for Lemonade, you gave me Spriteā in a really bitchy, entitled voice.
The cashier (and everyone within earshot) just looked at her like āthe fuck is wrong with youā
In Australia, Sprite IS lemonade as far as weāre concerned.
Enjoy your 90c refund you cheap ass ho.
āSprite IS lemonade as far as weāre concernedā
@fleamont can you verify?
Yeah this is correct. Lemonade is sprite. Clear fizzy liquid type thing. Solo is closer to what American lemonade is but we donāt actually have what you guys consider lemonade anyway so she was never going to get what she wanted lmao.
Y'ALL AINāT GOT LEMONADE?!?!??

That entire continent exists on a different realm of existence
What the⦠Lmao
Why is it called lemonade then? š¤
@casualswfan What is wrong with you guys?
IT IS THE SAME DAMN THING. You Yankees and your fifty brands of the same :P
LEMONADE AND SPRITE ARE NOTHING ALIKE
Things heating up in the drink fandom
Iām pretty sure the same is true in the UK at least was in 2010 except Sprite didnāt seem to be a common brand so Iād ask for Sprite get blank looks eventually figured out to ask for lemonadeĀ
Sprite is a recognised brand here, but itās not omnipresent, it is also considered a brand of lemonade.
This is fucked up.
Sprite: lemon-lime soda (pop/carbonated beverage). Lemonade: lemons, water, and sugar. Still.
LEMONADE IS NOT CARBONATED WHATT HEFUCC CK ARE YOU ALL DOIGN
Living? Sensibly?
Also on what planet does Sprite have lime in it.
Sprite, the lemon-lime flavored carbonatedĀ beverage, is made on Earth.
EarthĀ is the third planet from the Sun, the densest planet in the Solar System, the largest of the Solar Systemās four terrestrial planets, and the only astronomical object known to harbor Sprite.
The people of Earth are known asĀ āEarthlingsā orĀ āSpriteloidsā interchangeably (although not to each other).
At least in the UK, if you order lemonade youāll sometimes get Sprite, but if itās proper itās a lemon soda akin to the Italian gassosa - less sweet than Sprite.
Oh shit, Iāve had gassosa, itās AMAZING.
I just want to say that the whole ālemonade and Sprite are interchangeableā is pretty common throughout Asia as well, in my experience
@bre-e-e-e what madness is this?!?!?!?!
@kingkilling-and-stormlight so⦠what you are all saying is. Lemonade is ⦠not fizzy⦠in America?
You guys have orange juice at least, right? Grapefruit juice? In the US, Lemonade is a juice, like orange juice, but made with lemons instead of oranges. You can buyĀ āfresh squeezed lemonadeā at many restaurants and fast food venues. Typically itās diluted a bit with sugar water, so the sour flavor of the raw lemon juice isnāt so overpowering.Ā
In the south, itās very common for people buy whole lemons and make their own lemonade at home using a citrus juicer.
In Germany, youād ask forĀ āLimonadeā and yeah, you may get a Sprite or a Fanta; itāll always be a fizzy nonalcoholic drink and usually come in lemon, lime, orange flavor. Only in healthfood or hipster establishments would it ever be an actual juice drink.
As a fan of homemade rosewater lemonade, I am twitching at the thought of sickly sweet carbonated beverages that taste like they were invented byĀ someone who may have been in the same room as a citrus fruit once but canāt remember what it actually tastes like being called lemonade.
Wtf did y'all think beyonce was talking about????
oh wow I hadnāt even considered that. Like millions of people worldwide hearing the album title but not understanding what lemonade means even on the most superficial level.
This is so epically disturbing. Lemonade is such an integral part of spring and summertime. I just ⦠this breaks my brain and my heart. The cultural references too. Just, all the American shows that reference lemonade and people in other countries are thinking Sprite? Thereās a reason kids do freshly squeezed lemonade stands. You canāt buy it like that from a store. And thereās nothing quite like screwing it up and getting the sugar ratio wrong. And parents grinning through the too sour or too sweet mess and praising your efforts. Lemonade Is a Thing.
Wait does that mean Aussies make Shandies with sprite?????
Does this mean a significant portion of the global population donāt know what to do when life hands you lemons?
Yes, Australians make Shandies with our carbonated soft drink lemonade, though if youāre using it as a mixer, youāre less likely to be using Sprite and more likely to be using Schweppes, which looks like this:
Like. We absolutely have a concept of flat, juice-based lemonade, but as an earlier commenter said, itās a niche hipster speciality rather than the default, and even then, itās still going to be premade rather than fresh.Ā
OH GOD THATāS WHY AMERICAN CHILDREN CAN MAKE IT AND SELL IT SO EASILY. I ALWAYS WONDERED HOW KIDS COULD MAKE A CARBONATED DRINK AT HOME.
Reblogging for Beyonce. This thread is gold.
@cresselian
this changed my life
As someone who grew up drinking Limeade (lemons were expensive) this fucking wild.Ā
This makes me wonder how often we all *think* weāre talking about the same thing when our definitions are in fact wildly different. I thought the breadstick meme thing was the peak of food misunderstanding, but this takes it to new levels.
In case itās unclear: Americans do not grill our pets to serve on the 4th of July.Ā
Gather round children for Iām about to blow your mind.
First of all, let me tell you that in Greece we have all four things mentioned here: American lemonade, Fanta style lemonade (lemon carbonated drink), gasosa, and sprite.
I live in southern Greece (Athens) but Iām originally from THE NORTH⢠(Thessaloniki) and while we all speak the same language the dialects are different enough to be noticeable to someone who was born and bred in theĀ NORTH⢠. In Thessaloniki, lemonade can mean either the carbonated or the American kind, although it is more often used for the carbonated one as usually we specify ālemonade but juiceā if we donāt want soda. We use sprite& gasosa pretty much interchangeablyāthere is a slight hint of lemon scent in it but itās not even close to lemonade.
In Athens, FOR SOME REASON they call sprite& gassosaĀ lemonadeĀ and the actual soda that tastes like fuckin lemons is calledĀ ālemonitaā.
So, itās not even a cultural difference, we canāt even be sure what we will get here in the same fuckin country. I have no clue what happens in central GreeceāIoannina seemed to follow northern naming.
To finish this madness: Here, lemon juice, can mean either the thing you use in cooking or the American lemonade drink.
Goodbye.
