Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

These two have been rolling around in my brain for a while…. They’re such an interesting pair and they’re so versatile it’s crazy. A few of these little doodles have inspired me to write abt them (and draw moments from my writing)

I find it fun to think about how Owain views relationships

I see Owain as both autistic and aroace. The Owain vs yuri bit is iconic and I think it would be fun to expand it beyond Owain doesn’t understand yuri.

If you have seen my relationship chart for the KotRT you’ll know that I view them as being extremely tight knit. They are a brotherhood with many famillial ties. Relationships are bound to get messy and blurry. Before I wanna touch on the yuri, I would like to talk about Nom, Katie and 4c. Owain finds out Katie and Nom are siblings pretty early on in canon. 4c and Nom view eachother as brothers. Katie and Rc are also extremly close and may also view eachother as siblings, but I’m not as well versed in those two. But yeah, Owain figures out these relationships and his adopted self, who doesn’t percieve a difference between blood family and adopted/chosen/found family, pointly catogorizes those three as siblings.

Can you imagine him refering to 4c as Nom and Katies brother in front of others pre Nom and 4c falling out. Owain is known for taking things litteraly and suddenly we have Nom loudly trying to explain to Owain how 4c isn’t his brother. And Owain just goes “oh, did something happend”, because in his mind for Nom no longer to view 4c as his brother something terrible most have happend. And now both Nom and Owain are confused. Nom explains that 4c is like a brother to him, but not his actual brother. Which only serves to confuse Owain further. So he’s your brother, but not your brother. If it were just to be the two of them, I don’t think they would come to an understanding of eachother. But if others like Graecie, who is smart about people, were to be there, they might figure out what Owain means. Might because when it comes to himself Owain has got the emotional intellect of a rock.

Now back to the yuri. I see Owain as being on the absolute no romantic attraction at all part of the spectrum. He knows it exists. Kind of. But has no idea what it is. I like to think that “I love you” is not a sentance with romantoc conotations to Owain, but rather just an expression pf general closeness. All of this is because of the KotRT and the pretty tightknit brotherhood. Kay and Bedivere may be married and may have tried to explain romantic love. But I am aromantic and I don’t understand wtf it is, so neither does he. Also I haven’t decided how I wanna do the Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot situation, but I am between consenual polyamory, open relationship or A & G only staying married on paper now that Arthur has “an heir”

All of this to say. Owain won’t assume someone is in a relationship, unless they directly tell him. Otherwise it doesn’t occur to him that that might be the case. Especially with Shan being Owains best friend, he would assume she would tell him that if it were to happend. He is not as close with Eloise, so he does not have the same presumptions with her, which is why he asks Shan about them, when he hears the. talk about their relationship

Lastky I wanna quickly talk about Owain and Kitty. Neither of them experience romantic attraction and the best way to label their relationship would be as a qpr. But I imagine their relationship to be ambigious with both of them content with it being unlabeled

I wholeheartedly agree that Owain would not assume or understand people are in romantic partnerships without being explicitly told. My version of Guinevere and Arthur actually contributes to this confusion really nicely because I view them as married with no romantic connection and very little platonic romantic after Arthur discovers the infidelity. Because of this happening when Owain was very young, it gives him a very unique outlook on partnership and how different relationships look. So he always waits for someone to tell him how it actually is before he assumes.

This because Owains reaction to finding out Graecie and Shan was not “What, why, how?”, but “Why didn’t you tell me???” because just because he doesn’t assume doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense to him once he gets told

Some Owain & the creaking king rambles, because I’m unable to be normal about that, no one talks about it. I’m supposed to sleep, but lionshaped brainworms and I’m not gonna watch the streams to get his exact reaction so this is just gonna be what I remember

The first contact with the CK. Owain displays shock though I find it unclear whether it is the words themself of the reveal of the CK. The words imply that it knows what is underneath Owians armor, which is bound to be unnerving as Owain considers his armor and the full body coverage it provides extremely important. But it would also be easy to assume that a knight would have many scars due to the nature of the profession. That would make it merely a threat of bodily harm , which we know doesn’t worry Owain that much. Argueably the tamest quote

“You’ll find I’m not as easy to slay as Arthur”

A gut punch. Arthur was poisioned rather than slain, which would have been viewed as less honorable than dying on the battlefield. Those implications of the CK being better than King Arthur and not using his proper title brings a mockery of King Arthur and his death and are downright disrespectful along with bringing up painful momories. It is understandable that Owain reacts with what I can shortest decribe as anger. He pulls out his sword and is more aggresive towards hostile mobs during the trials

“If I were you I wouldn’t stop flogging til there wasn’t skin left”

This really implies that the CK really knows what is going on inside of people in the present. The previous comment could have been shrugged off as it hearing of the tale through books and travellers and simoly put two and two together of his name and heritage. But this is a well guarded secret of his that is currently happening. Also sencomdly. DON’T ENCOUARAGE HIM!!!

“Were you wiser, perhaps you would have seen Mordred coming”

Ouch. Because Owain agrees with this. He takes the blame and gulit that was wrongfully put on him and makes it his own burden to bear. Hurts even more if you think that Owain would have been a teenager/very young adult when it happend. I personally think him to have been 19/20, when it happend

“Your self inflicted pain does not redeem you of your failures”

This one is kinda funny. Because Owain goes? “actually you’ wrong” and we as the viewers know why. He doesn’t do it for himself, but to redeem others of their failures through his blood. Because others certainly don’t deserve to suffer the consequences of their actions, but he sure does! Also the “does not redeem” part can be read as the CK sowing seeds of doubt regarding the Knight God. Which starting to think that the paying penance was for nothing and the Knight God never even stepped in to tell him that would shake up his world view

“Surely you’ve grown tired by now on paying penance on his behalf? Why should you bare the marks of his flippancy while he galivants around the kingdom care free? Bringing mockery to knighthood? Stop holding back judgement Knight, let the guilletine fall”

Flippancy: unseriousness around a serious topic. Galivants: to wonder around and enjoy yourself. This contradicts the previous quote and the third one. It was with this wqoute that it was made extremely clear for me that the CK will do anything to get under people skin. And that all previous attemtps have failed, so he tries a different route. Spreading doubt about the one person he’s opened up too about anything personal/conserning It might not only (I’m pretty sure this is after their catlerop convo, but do correct me) This acknowledges what he does as the right thing and true. The guilletine is a quick execution tool implying that were he to stop paying penance the consequences would fall as quick as a guillitine.

“Oh that was cute. That little speech of yours. I especially liked the part where you left put the detail of marring you skin and bone every day in a patheric excuse to pay penance. You do know no one actually cares for your blood? I mean you were pretty clear with the Oath Breaker exactly what it is you do. And yet here he is. Under my control. When you make it out of here. Will you exsamguinate yourself to pay penace for that desision of his? Or to pay for your failure in saving another? I can’t wait to see”

Marring: to cause serious harm to. Exsamguinate: To loose a fatal amount of blood. I was never entirely sure what speech was being referenced here, but that is not important. Here the CK goes back to questiong the penance paying and the Knight God with the “pathetic excuse to pay penance. You do know no one actually cares for your blood?” Again it brings up Nom and how even when he knew the consequences and how they affected Owain. He didn’t seem to stop or think about it. Also the question. Purely a hypothetical. Even the CK seems intriuged by Owains being and thought process that goes on inside his head

To the people with rogue Owain AUs:

1. Love that.

2. Imagine a guy who gets so used to sneaking around and then starts to wear big clunky armor, so he habitually walks light, but it doesn't do anything because everyone can just hear CLANK CLANK CLINK.

3. Cat propaganda. People see Owain jumping from buildings, freak out, and he walks off fine because he knows how to land without jarring his ankles.

4. Rat propaganda. People find Owain digging random holes. He claims it's to check the safety of the building or land, or he's making sure no one is tunneling in, but he actually just likes the ground. (This is what the claws on his armor are for. Promise.)

5. The inability to climb something in heavy armor that he knows would be easy to climb otherwise. He can't contort and anchor his body appropriately in the armor, so he really can't climb.

I also like to think that in canon (cause you can’t tell me this ain’t canon in some way) this is the reason he was the perfect mentor for Kitty. Because that was him.

He got taken in from the street knowing basically nothing and then got taught what it means to be a knight. In my head walesland Owain was a roguelike knight much like Kitty, so he knows how to teach it from thta perspective

Multilingual Owain headcanon!

Owain speaks both Welsh and English fluently, but I imagine he has picked up other languages aswell on his travels

Welsh sounds very different to english do imagine the others reaction if Owain ever spoke welsh in front of them. Owain doesn’t really speak welsh anymore , but getting him frustrated enough can cause a language switch to happen. Welsh is also the only language Owain will swear in.

A really random headcannon I have is that Gawain has thrown Owain at someone to get them to shut up atleast once

And what Owain deducted from that was that it worked quite effectively and this is were the atleast once comes in mich to Arthurs horror and dismay

Also since Owain has often has a blank face, he just stares at whiever he was thrown at with his big ol bug eyes

I can’t tell you were this idea came from, but it has been stuck in my brain for weeks and now you get to know it too

My only question is if he physically threw Owain or just like… nudged Owain over there? Did Gawain toss a child like a football?

Like if Galahad has parentification of the oldest sibling and Owain has the unrealistic expectations of the youngest, Gawain has the invisibility and subsequent acting out of the middle child. This is my petition to make the KotRT a dysfunctional family dynamic

The fact that they are a BROTHERhood and by default would call eachother by brother. But firstly we have two generations within it and secondly there are a lot more family dynamics within it. I might make a graph of some kind though it would get complicated rather quickly
