Hey can you guys reblog Cheeseburger so he can take a sunbeam nap on lots of blogs. No other reason I just want you guys to see him.
So, Cheeseburger died on November 21st after an unfairly short battle with an unfairly rare cancer that is rarely seen in cats. I only got to spend a month with him after his diagnosis, and losing him has been the greatest heartbreak of my entire life so far. He was my best friend and my soul cat, and he was there for me when I was completely alone, for twelve long years.
I made this transparent PNG the night he died in preparation for one of the many ways I was going to memorialize him--a surface rug in his likeness that I planned on laying directly in the line of his favourite sunbeam. And I uploaded that PNG here, because this is the website where people post their cats.
I was not expecting the reception I got. Many people have pointed out that this post has more reblogs than likes, and how insane that is in 2025 when reblog culture is at an all time low. I didn't even talk about the fact that Burger passed away in the original post, it wasn't a tearjerker reblog bait or anything like that. People just loved Burger that much, in the same way I fell in love with him at first sight. He was such an ugly kitten.
Anyways, it's really special to me that so many people have reblogged my best friend. I made this PNG to memorialize him in a completely different way, and you all wound up doing just that in ways I never even imagined.
Thank you. Wherever he is, I know the sun is shining.
today's reason I fucking love the open source community: Ageless Linux, a brand new Debian-based operating system specifically designed to break the law by giving children access to computers that explicitly refuse to track their age.
reblog this post to help a child break the law
oh goddamn this whole page goes so hard actually, please go read it. what an impressive, visceral takedown of this dumb law

I'm really jealous of this one tiny feature of the Japanese tax system called furusato nozei which is the "hometown tax." Basically you can choose to pay like, some locality taxes to your hometown rather than say, just the big city you currently live in, AND, as a bonus, some of that tax money can be exchanged for select goods from the locality you're paying taxes to.
So if you live in Tokyo, you can delegate some of your tax money to like, another prefecture instead.
So you get like, a "gift" box of stuff from that town. It's not actually a gift, you're getting the item at a slightly higher than retail price, but it's from the tax money you already paid. So it FEELS like a gift. AND you can tell that other place that you want your tax money to go to like, x or y specific thing.
Example 1 (music loud unfortch) and example 2
And I just think this would be fun to do in the US, maybe on a state level (+ inclusive of reservation funding) Imagine being like "yeah I grew up in Arizona so I'm sending some of my state tax money there and telling them that I want it to go to education. and in return they're going to send me a box with some jars of prickly pear jelly, a bag of masa, a bolo tie, a bag of oranges, and a USB drive."
I'm very jealous.
This becomes a lot more meaningful and sad of a feature when you remember that the main reason for the hometown tax is that the demographic collapse of Japan combined with the emptying of its rural areas as older people die and younger people move to cities has resulted in many rural municipalities becoming insolvent.
OKAY I'm curious
where do you write your fics

using "what were YOU doing at the devils sacrament" to mean "yeah i made an embarrassing reference but you understood it which is also embarrassing" is very funny to me
my favorite part is that absolutely nobody says this except here. so if you use it in public, it's a dead giveaway that you spent the last ten years on tumblr. but then again, they recognized it, which means they were at the devil's sacrament
I tested this theory in the wild the other day at work. I was on a call with my department lead and a few other folks and I replied to an email the DL had sent me, thinking that, because he was on this call, he wouldn't notice when I sent it and would not catch me multitasking.
However, he replied to said email within five minutes, asking a question that required an answer. So I answered and was like "Also, I was going to apologize for answering emails during this call, but I see we're both here at the Devil's Sacrament, so I don't think an apology is necessary."
I watched him read that on screen and try not to laugh. And then at the end of the call as everyone started saying goodbye, he goes, "Hey, MJ, I meant to tell you. I like your shoelaces."
And I looked straight into my camera, stone cold serious, and said, "Thanks. I stole them from the president."
And the rest of the team was like, "What...the fuck...?" before he abruptly ended the call for everyone.
So now my DL and I know this about each other. He could be any one of us.
At a certain point, the appropriate response to "What were you doing at the devil's sacrament" becomes "stealing shoelaces from the president."
Reblog if you were stealing shoelaces from the President
German tumblr, I have a question to ask you:
"Ich mag deine Schnรผrsenkel."
Was antworten wir?
"Danke. Ich habe sie dem Bundesprรคsidenten gestohlen."
"Danke. Ich habe sie dem Bundeskanzler gestohlen."
"Danke. Ich habe sie dem US-amerikanischen Prรคsidenten gestohlen."
Mother, no. Photo from my collection, no date/ info.
WE NEVER CHANGE.
totally i understand narratively why project hail mary ends with grace becoming a teacher again but ever since i saw the movie i havenโt been able to stop thinking about what a crazy move it is from the eridian perspective. like imagine if we had one (1) alien on earth and we liked him so much that we just let him have a class of schoolchildren to teach all the brand new alien science to, for fun. whatโs the selection process for that classroom. do the adult eridian scientists wish they were in there
wait, WAIT
now we need the story of an impatient adult Eridian scientist, who happens to be very small in stature, and who comedically tries to fake being an Eridian child in order to get into Graceโs class and learn from/observe the alien in person..
Okay but like....maybe he goes to extra lengths to modulate his voice so it sounds like a child eridian....and move like a child eridian...but Grace doesn't need all that since he's still learning the language a bit and can't really discern all those differences yet.
All the kids see right through it tho.
