Reading Habits...
So everybody reads differently. We all have our different idiosyncrasies when it comes to our reading habits. So Abbie and I decided to share ours with the world. Do you do any of these? Or do you have any reading habits that we haven’t mentioned?
Poly Reading
Charliiey - I am a poly reader, I can read a number of books at any one time. I do however try to make sure that they are all different in genres so that I don’t confuse the stories with one another. So at the moment I am reading a children’s classic fiction, a collection of short stories and a non-fiction book.
Abbie - Most of the time I only read one book at once. However, there have been rare occasions where I have been reading more than one book at once. I also really love audio books and so sometimes I will have a physical book and an audiobook.
Bookmarks
Charliiey - I collect bookmarks and for the most part I do use them. Although to be honest if you were to look around my house you would probably find a coupe of books that are just laid upside down. I mostly use a bookmark in order to mark where I am going to read to, whilst I am reading.
Abbie - I use to dog-ear books w=but then I learnt the error of my ways and started using bookmarks.
Background Noise
Charliiey - Sometimes I listen to instrumental/piano music on spotify in the background whilst I read, but I really can’t concentrate if the TV is on or someone is speaking, I would just get distracted. However, on my commute to work I listen to my music and I can concentrate. I think it’s because I am far less likely to burst into song and dance on the bus.
Abbie - Recently my favourite thing to do whilst reading is to watch booktube. I like having some background noise and it motivates me to read.
Breaking the spine and annotating
Charliiey - Yes I do break the spine, I can’t read a book without opening it properly. It’s the sign of a well-loved book, when it has been broken. I annotate m y books by highlighting quotes that I thought were interesting or really funny.
Abbie - I rarely break the spine, although I have started doing it if my hands are hurting from reading. I don’t annotate books. There isn’t a particular reason why, I just don’t have the same inclination to do so that others do.
Skip pages or read ahead
Charliiey - I try not to skip ahead because I liked to be surprised at the outcome. I do find myself almost skim reading when the book is at an exciting or a tense section.
Abbie - I used to be really bad for this at school when we would have to read a book for English, because we would have to read it at the same pace so I would sometimes flick to the end in order to see what happened.
Moby-Dick Book Review.
Hey,
So, let’s talk about Moby-Dick. I’ll be honest the main reason that I wanted to read this book was because I have been watching and reading Matilda since I was a young girl. The second reason that I wanted to read it, is because it is known as a classic, and I have been trying to incorporate more classics into my reading lately. However, I had a few issues with this book.
Before I started reading it, I did some research and read some of the reviews and they were very mixed. Some people loved it and some people really disliked it. I rated it a two stars on goodreads and I’m going to explain why.
The first 200 pages were really enjoyable, I enjoyed following the characters. However, this is a 750 page book and as I reached the middle there was a lot of very detailed descriptions that just seemed a little unnecessary. There was an awful lot of information about whaling which, honestly, I have never done, but the amount of information was overwhelming and a lot to take in.
Basically the main plot of the book is about a one-legged captain who is seeking revenge on a whale because it has eaten his leg. That is ALL. And just to add insult to injury, when reaching the climax of this book and starting to get more interested, I then noticed that it all seemed to be over pretty quickly.
The book is to put it plainly boring, and I really don’t like that word, but there’s not really any other way to describe it. I don’t think I’ll be re-reading it.
On the plus side finishing Moby-Dick completes my Defence Against The Dark Arts OWL for the magical readathon.
Book Addicts Anonymous!
So my friend and I decided to co-author a blog about books in order to keep ourselves busy during quarantine. That blog is called Book Addicts Anonymous.
All of my book reviews will still be on this blog, however we will be using that blog to discuss upcoming books, and our favourite books to read in different seasons, booktubes most popular books, and many other challenges. So if you are a book nerd or you just want to get some recommendations for books to read, then check out that blog. :D
Any content you want to see on either of our blogs, shoot me a message. :D
Reblog if your blog is safe for people of all genders and sexualities
Absolutely!! <3
May is almost here!
I’ve been in quarantine in the UK for almost four weeks and so am trying my best to keep myself busy, which with me means a lot of reading and Netflix binging. So I’ve mentioned in an earlier post that I will be doing the magical readathon, so all 9 of those books are included in my May TBR. I’ll list them down below in case their hard to see on the image.
Moby-Dick by Herman Melville
The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
Peter Pan by J.M.Barrie
Anne of Green Gables by L.M.Montgomery
The Witches by Roald Dahl
Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer
Insomnia by Stephen King
Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers by Robert M. Sapolsky
Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King
Feminists Don’t Wear Pink and Other Lies by Scarlett Curtis
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare
What are you reading in May? Let me know!! Also if you would like a full review of any of these books let me know.
Hey everyone!
So I know I’m a little bit late to the party, but I only found out about it earlier in the week, but I have decided to join the magical readathon. So, because I only joined it on April 20th, my readathon will end on May 20th.
Here’s a little bit of a background if you’re unsure what the magical readathon is. So essentially it’s a reading challenge that is based on the OWL’s that the characters of Harry Potter take at Hogwarts. So I’ve left a link below to the website, there is a guide that explains all the magical careers you can go into and once you have chosen the career you would like to do, it tells you which OWL’s you would need in order to achieve this career. So essentially there are up to 12 OWL’s and each OWL represents one book that you have to read. On the website below there is also a list of prompts for each of the OWL’s that gives you a hint as to what sort of book you should read.
I chose the alchemist as my career as it required me to take all twelve OWL’s and these are the ones I’ve shown. Some of the books overlap and therefore in total I have 10 books to read for the challenge. If you read the prompts you’ll understand why it is that I have chosen these books. I’ve listed below which books are for each subject just for your own interests. The Astronomy/Potions book isn’t in the photo because I have already finished reading it.
Ancient Runes: Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King
Arithmancy: Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers by Robert M. Sapolsky
Astronomy: All My Friends are Superheroes by Andrew Kaufman
Care of Magical Creatures: The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
Charms: Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer
Defence Against the Dark Arts: Moby-Dick by Herman Melville
Divination: Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
Herbology: Insomnia by Stephen King
History of Magic: The Witches by Roald Dahl
Muggle Studies: Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Potions: All My Friends are Superheroes by Andrew Kaufman
Transfiguration: Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer
If you would like a full review on any of these books once I’ve read them, please shoot me a message.

Welcome :)
So, my blog has been a little bit abandoned in the recent months/years, as I didn’t really have time to keep up with a blog. However, since we have been in quarantine for almost four weeks and I am running out of things to do, I decided to revisit and attempt to be more proactive with my posting.
Let me give you a little bit of insight into me and the type of blog that I am going to try for this to be.
This blog will mostly be books. Let’s be honest, that’s who I am. I live in a world of books. So I will be posting book reviews and my thoughts on any upcoming books that I am excited about. There will be some other content, such as beauty hacks.
Just FYI, I no longer make YouTube videos as I no longer have the equipment or access to my intro/editing materials. So there will no longer be those however I am going to try and interpret them into posts.
