Affirmations for the unsure alterhumans and maybehumans:

You can still be alterhuman even if you acknowledge parts or all of your humanity.

You can still be alterhuman even if you find comfort in human rituals, culture, etc.

You can still be alterhuman even if you display human behaviors and characteristics.

You can still be alterhuman if you look or act nothing like your 'type.

You can still be alterhuman without dysphoria, euphoria, or both.

You can still be alterhuman even if you never plan to transition or present physically or socially as alterhuman.

You can still be alterhuman without blowing hundreds of thousands of dollars on gear.

You can still be alterhuman even if you aren't queer (surprisingly common misconception by the way!)

You can still be alterhuman even if you don't find the furry community appealing.

You can still be alterhuman even if there weren't 'signs' of alterhumanity in your childhood.

You can still be alterhuman even if you find aspects of alter/nonhumanity uncomfortable or scary (and this may change as you discover yourself!)

You can still be 100% alterhuman and 100% human at the same time.

You can still be alterhuman without misanthropy.

You can still be alterhuman without a spiritual connection to nature or a religion pertaining to nature.

Even if you aren't alterhuman, it's okay to be human.

Even if you aren't alterhuman forever, it's okay to recognize your humanity afterwards.

No seriously, it's okay to be human in some aspects or all aspects.

You don't have to constantly strive to be the 'most nonhuman thing possible' and you don't have to try and reinvent the wheel coming up with a new term thats 'more nonhuman' or 'further than humanity' than the last.

There are infinite ways to be alterhuman and you may never find a term to define yourself. You might not even find a species to label yourself as.

On the same coin you may find that your experience is painfully common, or not 'original' enough to warrant a 'true' experience. You have to remember that it's okay to be one of the gazillion black wolf psychological therians out there and that it is functionally the same (and has the same moral weight) as having brown eyes.

It's okay to be unlabeled.

It's okay if you wouldn't be considered alterhuman by the old standards from the days when alterhumanity was mostly on independent forum boards.

Grills and grilling aren't relevant anymore and it's better to block people that try to bring that back.

But it is never okay to lie to yourself to fit into a box that's too small for you.

Quant à la difficulté de comprendre la « therianthropy », il s'agit d'un terme très vaste. La « therianthropy » est le fait de s'identifier à un animal — à n'importe quelle échelle ou à n'importe quel niveau. Il n'existe pas de directives strictes ni de listes de contrôle pour déterminer si l'on est, ou non, un « therian ». Cela implique simplement de s'identifier à un animal, pour diverses raisons et à des degrés variables. La « therianthropy » est également un sous-ensemble de l'« alterhuman » — une catégorie plus large qui englobe les « otherkin », les « fictionkin », les « plantkin » et une infinité d'autres identités. Therian = Alterhuman ; toutefois, tous les alterhuman ne sont pas des therian.

Je suppose qu'il est difficile de déterminer avec précision pourquoi je suis un loup. Je suis un loup tout comme un papillon est un papillon : cela est, tout simplement — c'est ainsi que j'ai été créé, ou que je suis né. Ces pulsions ne se sont jamais estompées ; avec le temps, j'ai fini par réaliser qu'elles étaient de nature animale. J'ai alors passé des années à mener des recherches approfondies, jusqu'au jour où je me suis retrouvé face à mon reflet dans un miroir et où j'ai vu un loup me fixer en retour. Tout s'est mis en place, et je n'ai plus jamais regardé en arrière depuis. Je suis un loup — pleinement et véritablement.

Afin de déterminer la sous-espèce spécifique, j'ai entrepris des recherches exhaustives. J'ai passé des années à faire des recherches. Après des centaines de longues nuits et la rédaction de dizaines de carnets, j'ai découvert le loup du Nord-Est. Il incarne tout ce que je suis — tout ce que je suis vraiment. Ses habitudes, son habitat et même la couleur de son pelage. C'est moi.

As for not understanding therianthropy- it’s a loose term. Therianthropy is the act of identifying as an animal on any scale or level. There are no guidelines or lists to determine if you are a therian or not, it is simply identifying as an animal for any number of reasons, to any extent. Therianthropy also falls under the umbrella of alterhumanity, which includes otherkins, fictionkins, plantkins and infinite other identities. Therian = alterhuman, alterhuman does not equal alterhuman.

It is hard to pinpoint why I am a wolf I suppose. I am a wolf in the same way a butterfly is a butterfly- it simply is, I was created or born this way. This is just how my brain is wired, as it always has been. I have always been a wolf, from the moment I was born. It just so happens that I realized it later on. My validity as a wolf is no less than a wild wolf in yellowstone, or a wolf hunting in the arctic. I realized I was a wolf when it became apparent I did not experience life like others. My urges, my instincts, the way I thought and acted were startlingly different from other children my age. Those urges never went away, and overtime I realized they were animalistic. I then did extensive research for years and found myself looking in the mirror and seeing a wolf. It clicked, and I've never looked back. I am a wolf, fully and truly.

To find my subspecies I did extensive research. I did years of research. Hundreds of long nights and tens of journals later I found the Northeastern Wolf. They are everything I see myself as, everything I am. The habits, the habitat, even down to the coat color. It is me.

My caretaker cannot fathom the fact that I don't have "social anxiety", I'm a reactive canine that does not enjoy being forced to be around humans. No matter how many times I've told them "I cannot do this", they wont listen to me, they keep saying "how do you know if you haven't tried?". I know because I am not a human, I have lived my entire life surrounded by humans and I still do not like them. I am not shy, I am a wild animal.

Does anyone else who's a territorial animal have an emotionally strained relationship with seeing or hearing them? People always talk about loving their theriotypes and wanting to see one in real life, but every time I encounter a barred owl I just get this weird mixture of "that's me! :)" and "get off my lawn!! >:(" and the latter is usually way stronger. I love all birds, but I just can't love barred owls the same way because if I'm in an owl mental state at all they immediately put me in Fight Mode, and seeing them usually triggers a shift lmao

Anyway l just scrolled past a photo of one staring directly into the camera and nearly did a threat display at it. Extremely funny.

i personally experience something very similar. i don’t really raise my hackles at photos or videos of wolves, but I’ve been to zoos with captive wolves before (i have strong feelings about zoos but that’s a different topic), and I’ve immediately felt on edge. perhaps territorial isn’t the right word to describe what I’ve felt, but very, very anxious. almost flight-or-fighty, whimpering, tail tucked, ears back. Definitely the opposite of territorial actually, I feel as if I am intruding on them, as I am the outsider and my mind is telling me they don’t want you here, they’re coming for your pack, run run run. I will say however, I CANNOT stand to hear other wolves’s noises. if I’m watching a show or scrolling and hear wolf vocals or sounds, I have to immediately mute otherwise I get incredibly anxious, paranoid and territorial .

i just saw some tiktok post which was just like quadrobics (i have zero issue with quads this is just for context) and i was like cool! then i opened the comments to see misinformation after misinformation from the creator?? the critter was replying to comments, saying things like "no therians don't actually think they're animals!" ,,, oh my lord. now in no way is this me coming for the validity of their identity etc, but can i just say that before labeling yourself as something (therian, fictionkin, otherkin, whatever) you might wanna know the definition of the label is? I’m not saying you have to know every term ever, but not knowing the baseline definition of a therian while you yourself are one ? And not only that, but also going out and spreading blatant misinformation?? I wouldn’t even usually say anything about this and can usually ignore it but it just pmo pmo pmo

i am though, well aware I’m preaching to the choir on this. I’m not saying that all therians/alterhumans who stem from platforms like tiktok are “fake” or don’t know what they’re talking about, just a wolf’s rambles.

generally, when possible, i try to hunt all my meat. i prefer it for personal reasons, some connected to being a wolf and satisfying instincts, some from environmental standpoints.

i also grew up eating the same cows that i had cared for since they were born; hunting and being self sufficient has always and will always be a huge part of who i am. my family owns a farm, and because of this, fresh food you could get or produce yourself, particularly meat, was seen as a blessing and a privilege.

i learned to hunt from my father, and i go deer, moose and elk hunting when in season. i always try to keep a store of this meat, and will eat it with my pack throughout the year. however, recently me and my mate ran out of hunted meat. and it fucking sucks. Not only is beef you can get at a store significantly less tasty (and more expensive) but i now am left with a hole, a pit in my maw, a rot of shame.

i pride myself in providing for my pack, a kill on the table proof of my sufficiency. when the kill on the table is not mine, it removes all that pride. it is shameful, i cannot even provide for the one i love most, the one i would do anything for and i cannot feed them.

and so, with my tail between my legs, i have decided to go vegetarian until i can hunt again. both me and my mate made this decision, as they do not enjoy grocery store meat either, although they are significantly more tolerant. a vegetarian wolf… i’m not sure if it’s a lifestyle for me, but i will have to embrace it as it is penalty for my own incompetence 𐂯

no part of my identity will ever be able to be separated from me being a dog. i am always, inherently, a dog. i’m a dog before i’m a woman. i’m a dog before i’m human. i’m a dog before i’m queer. i’m a dog before i’m aromantic.

you could add “dog” in front of every identity i have and that would be most accurate. doggirl. dognonbinary. doggender. dogbisexual. dogtrans. dogaromantic. dogautistic. those are me before any identity term on its own is me.

i don’t feel this way about my other kins. i’m a dog first and foremost.
