TLDR: this white queer person tried to hold other white queer people accountable for their racism and they DID NOT LIKE THAT
Inuits in the Arctic can survive perfectly on a plant based diet 😤
Vegans: We care about all life! We're all equal!
Also vegans: I think Inuit people should starve :)
Animals in nature: *kill and eat each other all the time.*
vegans:
Commercial agriculture: *develops certain GMOs and pesticides that kill keystone bug species, which disrupts the environment and kills many different animals up the food chain as a result*
Vegans:
Commercial agriculture: *destroys local ecosystems by ripping out native species and replacing them with massive farms of exotic monocultures, resulting in the deaths and endangerment of millions of species*
Vegans:
Inuit people: *live in an environment where growing plant based food is extremely difficult, and where grocery prices are inflated past affordability so they hunt a few large animals every year which feed their entire community*
Vegans: that’s immoral and evil, actually.
@feathertayl
MY PEOPLE! MY PEOPLE ARE ALREADY STARVING! We are NOT the reason animals are going extinct. We have kept the EXACT SAME HUNTING PRACTICES FOR CENTURIES! CENTURIES! Before cars we hunted this way, before light bulbs we hunted this way, BEFORE AMERICA OR AUSTRALIA WAS COLONIZED WE HAVE HUNTED THIS WAY!
Orange juice in my home town is 25$ minimum! We buy bread for special occasions! Something Southern people have on their dinner table 24/7 is something I would see only a few times a year!
Not to mention, we use AS MUCH OF THE ANIMAL AS POSSIBLE! Bones become plates, and silverware (or in some cases jewlery), fur and blubber becomes homes and clothing and beds. Teeth become combs. And we eat EVERYTHING! I've had brains, and eyeballs, and intestines. Anything that can be eaten, will be eaten. We DONT throw ANYTHING away. And if we have too much (which is rare but has happened before) we leave it for the suffering wild life!
Polar bears will come and gouge themselves on a whale we don't finish, wolves will feast on some left over seal tails, foxes will devour caribou carcases!
Even now, we are curbing our hunting ideas. We DONT hunt as many whales as we used too, we used to hunt maybe five a year, but now we hunt one to three! Seals are also taken care of but use only hunting males, and older males at that! Caribou was my family's main meal, and lemmings when they would come around.
If you are vegan, cool! More power too you! But you probably live in a place that can grow more than lichen, and grass. You live in an industrialized place, where everyone has a car, and house.
Some of my people still don't own these things. We are so far north, cars are hard to maintain, electricity for my childhood home came from a car battery we would buy from the soldiers and sailors, we didn't have wifi, or even phones.
(#sorry i had to go off #because my neice is that little girl #i was there for that picture)
when i forget to log into ao3 and i have to click proceed to see an adult fic, i actually get a kick out of it. like i am an old timey queen and my bard is apologetic: “gentle lady, dicks doth touch in this next ballad. would you prefer another?” and i give him a gesture of command like, “nay, you may proceed, minstrel. bring forth the tale of dicks”
hope it’s not too late; I made this in Scriptorium
If you're ever worried about whether your writing is too self indulgent, I just want you to remember that Sharknado had 5 sequels. I'm only partway through watching Sharknado 6: It's About Time, but already they've traveled through time and ridden a pteronadon into a Sharknado so they could use the magic teleportation portal inside of it to travel forward in time to King Arthur's time, where they are currently battling a Sharknado full of fire-breathing dragon sharks with Excalibur, which is a chainsaw sword that calls lightning. You're fine. In fact, be a little more self indulgent if anything.
Is this a hallucination? Are you ok?
Its absolutely real.
Theres this thing that happens with a few too many franchises, where the constant need to one-up and raise stakes makes each entry slightly more unhinged than the last. Until you reach a point where what started as a fairly simple/grounded concept has become completely ridiculous(see Dragonball, Fast and Furious).
Sharknado is what happens when you have that tendency of escalation, but your starting premise is 'a tornado full of sharks'
You can put down the shovel, bud. It's The Asylum. Every movie they make is like this. And was like this before Sharknado and will be like this long after, because that's the kind of movie the company makes. They were making terrible horror movies before Sharknado, with just as weird and ridiculous premises. Sharknado was never grounded (and if you think so, you must not have watched it), nor was it meant to be. The POINT of their movies is to be ridiculous. They literally named the company The Asylum because they knew they were gonna make "crazy" stuff. It's not the same as a serious first movie that jumps the shark in a sequel or something. The shark was jumped way before they threw it into a tornado.

these relationships are always increasing numbers as well. so obviously we need six eleven to mean somethimg

Even with federal grants largely restored, scientists say the Trump administration is still preventing those funds from reaching them. The c
Standing in his laboratory, Harvard professor Sean Eddy gazes at a row of vacant work stations. More than a year ago, this lab was filled with over a dozen researchers. On a given day they might be working independently on analyzing genomic sequencing or gathered around the group table, drinking coffee and helping each other troubleshoot questions about genomic data from different species.
Now, after his funding was terminated under the Trump administration, the computer screens are gone and the room is silent. He's one of the last people left.
" Seeing these labs empty — this is not the way it's supposed to be," he says. "This was a very vibrant lab."

dystopia au where we are all assigned one of two chosen genders at birth
Thanks to ultrasounds, the genders can be assigned before birth. The people are so excited to conform they throw “Gender reveal parties” to make sure their offspring exist in a strict binary since before they can even form thoughts.
Children are color-coded according to their binary assignment.
One of the genders is seen as inherently inferior.
This all sounds really effing creepy when you put it that way
#BECAUSE IT IS
And if you deviate from the assigned gender you can be disowned by your family, fired from your job, and beaten by authorities.
so women are supposed to grin and bear the books, the comics, the movies, the plays, the tv shows, the stories, the sci-fi, the translated ancient poems, the fucking millennia of men writing about their self inserts torturing women and it being declared as High Art by other men, we’re supposed to read it in our free time, study it in classrooms, include their styles in our own writing, accept their cultural influence as natural, watch it in the cinema, write about it, talk about it, accept it, aspire it, but men can’t tolerate three seconds of female wish fulfilment of a woman snapping the wrist of a creep without feeling personally kicked in the balls.
This reminds me of something I observed in college while I was doing my honors thesis on women in modern horror films. I watched a LOT of horror during that time as part of my research, and sometimes that was done with my family around.
And my dad and brothers? Were deeply disturbed by the movie Jennifer’s Body. I was flabbergasted. It’s not scary! It’s not even that gory. But they were horrified by it. These men who grew up on 70s slashers were legitimately shook by 90 minutes of Megan Fox eating a few teenage boys, mostly off-screen.
Similarly, my all-male reading panel for my thesis? Were so disturbed by my synopsis of the film Teeth that they couldn’t even talk about it. One of them said he couldn’t look at his wife for a week after reading it.
Again, grown-ass men who study and teach media for a living. Who definitely watch and enjoy horror movies. One of whom was a huge Tarantino buff. We watched and read worse in his intro to mass media class! But one movie about a girl whose vag could bite was enough to haunt him.
Then of course you have things like the Gone Girl backlash–men yelling that Amy Dunne is evil and women clamoring to assure everyone that they know she is not someone to emulate–the backlash against Carol Danvers, and, more recently, the griping from MRAs against the upcoming film Hustlers, which is about strippers scamming their Wall Street clients.
My conclusion? Most men–at least most straight, cisgender men, who are both my sample population and most of the ones whining that Carol is a “villain”–are perfectly fine with, and desensitized to, media where men do violence to women (horror movies), or men do violence to men (horror and action movies). They’re even sort of fine when women do violence to women (“ooooo cat fight!”).
But they get intensely uncomfortable when women are depicted doing any kind of violence to men, especially in films that tilt the balance of power to the other side of the m/f gender binary beyond a single moment or scene.
So woman as flesh-eating monster with men as her preferred cuisine? Woman who responds to unwanted sexual contact by biting it off? Woman who frames her cheating husband for murder? Woman whose response to harassment–behavior that many of the loudest whiners know is both creepy and reflective of their own thoughts/actions–is to break something?
Too scary. Unacceptable. Disturbing. These men hate being presented with the idea, even in fiction, that their position of power is socially constructed, that it could easily be flipped the other way. It terrifies them.
In feeling that terror, they experience a tiny modicum of what living, existing, moving, being perceived as a woman in the world is like.
And they flinch every time.
Here have a newspaper comic from 1993
Very generally speaking, when you see a black man in a piece of media, be it tv show, movie, video game, etc. there’s something you often see a lot of writers do. To go against the stereotype of black men (and black people in general) being dumb and lazy, you’ll see this black male character being smart and an achiever.
The Black Nerd. A common character type, the nerd will always be very interested in all things nerdy: science, video games, mathematics, etc. In an continued effort to combat stereotypes, the Black Nerd will be lack athleticism, probably being asthmatic (the nerdiest of conditions). The Black Nerd will dress smartly, suspenders and bow ties. They’ll always talk smart too, using proper English with complex words.
Now, I don’t have a problem with a black character being a nerd, indeed black people are a people; we aren’t all the same and we all have varying personalities. The problem I have is that too often we see a distinct disconnect between Blackness and the Black Nerd. The Black Nerd doesn’t listen to hip hop or rap, only classical music. The Black Nerd only has white friends, the only other black characters are into not nerdy stuff. The Black Nerd never ever uses AAVE at any time in any context.
And again I must say that Black people, not being a monolith, there are no hard fast rules to being Black. I’m more than sure there are Black people like what I’ve described above, I’m not saying it’s impossible; what I’m getting at is that the only Black Nerd we see. There are Black Nerds that play basketball, that bump Kendrick Lamar, and use AAVE since it’s an ever changing dialect. I’m just saying there’s no one way of being a nerd and no one way of being Black.
Well @dumbey, seems we’re in similar boats
This ain’t about him, this is about Black/Asian solidarity. Focus.
I remember growing up with this belief that because my body would be capable of pregnancy, I owed it to (?? the world?) to give birth before I died. just because it was a thing my body was "supposed to" do.
starting from my earliest inquiries into existence via "where did I come from" questioning as a tiny child, I was introduced to pregnancy as an inevitability, something fundamental to being alive that I would experience. I began my life with the understanding that I would experience both childbirth and death, and that it was pointless and maladaptive to express fear about either of them.
as I got older, everything I saw and read and heard about pregnancy/childbirth taught me that it was scary, painful, disabling, and often caused death, but that this was a sort of noble sacrifice that everyone must endure for the good of (??? the species?).
and then one day it just hit me that a slight majority of people on earth never experience pregnancy ever. they live full, meaningful lives. so maybe I did not have to do this terrible scary painful thing to be a human being, and have my life matter to people.
but soon after that realization, I started witnessing & experiencing sexual violence and became aware that as long as I had that organ, it was not my decision. I could always be forced to endure this. learning about the reactionary movements to block access to all protections against this (birth control & abortion) further emphasized that this was not under my control.
during my first pregnancy scare when I was a young teen, I found myself with perfect unshakeable certainty that if I ever became pregnant and could not access abortion within a month, I would kill myself. it was the only option, and I would take it. as I grew into an adult, I took with me the constant knowledge that suicide was my final protective option.
I was terrified to die. I didn't want to kill myself. I wanted to remove my uterus. but despite me begging every single doctor to just let me learn about my options, it took thirteen years to actually get a referral to a consultation with a surgeon and finally get a hysterectomy.
if you want kids to not kill themselves, let them get permanent irreversible surgeries to reshape or remove their sexed traits. it is not a decision kids pursue without consideration for the world around them; it is deeply informed by the world around them. these are not expressions of trivial desires for short-term benefits without consideration for how it will impact their bodies for the rest of their lives. these are profound assertions about what constitutes a bearable physical reality for someone during their one brief shot at existence before death.
it's not "irreversible damage." it is life itself.

You should be outraged for Murry Foust. He was missing for 28 days, almost a month. And he wasn't found by the police, or a police organized search party. No. No, he was found by an independently led group.
And of course, the police are claiming "no foul play" in Murry's death.
We need to be angrier.
