according to this chart i was a trans child (and am still trans apparently), i wanted to highlight the last two criteria because those symptoms are very prominent in victims of csa and i detest treating warning signs of sexual trauma that i and so many other girls experience as simply âgender dysphoriaâ
Apparently simply not conforming to sexist stereotypes means you have a mental illness that needs to be âfixedâ with puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery. Why itâs being considered âprogressiveâ to treat gender non conformity this way, I just canât understand.
also can we talk about how so many of these 'symptoms' would only come out in certain cultures depending on how strict they are about gender roles for many people??? like i was raised in a rural area where it was normal for women to be barefaced, rarely wear skirts or dresses and do manual labour, making these behaviours gender neutral in that culture, but when i moved to a major city i suddenly went from being a very normal girl to being considered gnc overnight
the same area i lived in as a kid had a very active community arts scene so doing things like playing the opposite sex in a play (or even just make believe games with friends) was considered proof of your acting talent and creativity, why is imaginative play being pathologised here?
so much about gender roles is just cultural norms, so if someone leaves that cultural context they can go from being conforming to non-conforming without anything intrinsic to their behaviour changing. given this, these diagnostic criteria seem like total bullshit, no?
