NET NEUTRALITY IS NOT THE ONLY THING TRYING TO KILL THE INTERNET

The EU is trying to pass stricter copyright laws, aka Article 13. The big companies will cater to the strictest laws and deal out the same thing everywhere, meaning wherever you are, your social media will follow the EU’s new rules. 

THIS AFFECTS THE ENTIRE INTERNET, and it is in its FINAL STAGES.

It means almost every YouTube channel/user of any social media using something that isn’t theirs is on the chopping block. This means the death of our fanart, fan theory videos, gaming channels, and most of all, our memes.

If you’re in Europe, talk to your MEPs. 

If you’re an enjoyer of the internet, spread the word.

TL;DR: Europe’s Article 13 is trying to kill memes and content creators AROUND THE GLOBE, and we’re running out of time. Spread the word.

Miss Detroit Part 1 (Gavin x Android!Reader)

Hey! This is an x reader based on a musical I love called Miss Saigon. If you ever get the chance to listen to it, you should because it is on Spotify and it has a beautiful story. This fic will have mentions of sex, guns, nudity, gore, and heartbreaking moments. Please let me know if you want me to continue this because I have no idea if this is good or not. Now, without further ado, let us begin.

The deafening buzzing of the helicopter filled my ears as it passed overhead. Looking around, I picked up the items I had dropped, my LED still red from the memories that came with seeing the war helicopter. As the android revolution takes place here, those of us trying to live normally are caught in the crossfire between the deviant leader, Markus, and the humans. My owners died a while back, and a happy couple they were. They were there and supported me when I became deviant. They were almost like... parents. 

As the sound of the helicopter lessened, I could once more hear the voices of the people in the marketplace. Technology didn’t really spread to this area of Detroit due to us being so poor. People still using credit cards and gas cars and other things from the early 2010′s filled the place. However, the chatter had turned into screams when the helicopter had started shooting at us. I chose to hide behind a couple of boxes as the massacre occurred. I could hear the tortured screams of those caught in the bullet’s path. It must have been fate’s path for them, I thought to myself to comfort my already shaking body. My hands trembling due to fear, an experience I will never become accustomed to no matter how long I’ve been deviant.

As soon as the shooting stopped, I peaked my head from behind the boxes. It had become dead silent. The ground had gone from black asphalt to splotches of red, blue, and purple everywhere. Bodies littered the ground, both android and human alike. The government never cared for who they targeted, as long as they eradicated the androids. I sit in shock at the sight of all these people dead in just a few moments. One minute they’re happily chatting with their friends and family, or buy groceries to provide for their children, and they next they lay lifeless on the ground, their families not knowing they will never see them again.

It sounds like foot steps. I turn to where the source of the sound is coming from, and there I see a man, dressed up fancy. His shoulder length hair was slicked back, and he had a stubble growing on his face. He was also a little more on the over weight side, but not too overweight to be considered fat. I think the word for that is chubby. “Hey there! You look like you’re in need of a job!” He exclaimed.

“Yes, I do,” I replied. Jobs were scarce these days. Although I’m an android, I still need to pay for the things I need to function, such as thirium. 

“Well, I’m Todd, but that’s the Engineer to you. Now tell me, princess, what’s your name?” 

“(Y/n).”

“(Y/n)! Such a lovely name,” he started inspecting me in ways I cannot describe except for the word, inhumane, “You seem like fresh meat. You know the men will pay big bucks to get their hands on you. Now, come along. We don’t have any time to waste.” He grabbed my hand and together we walked away from the horrendous scene that had taken place just moments ago. One moment you’re alive, the next moment you witness death, and the next a miracle happens. The heat is on in Detroit.

Article 13 has been approved by EU. It’s worse than Net Neutrality has ever been. I don’t even know if we will have any access to Tumblr, Pinterest, Ao3 or even Instagram. Memes are probably dead, just like reactions, fanfictions and gifsets. Everyone in EU is in danger that they will not have access to their favorite sites. But I haven’t seen a SINGLE post about it on my dash because Americans doesn’t give a damn.

Don’t panic! This was expected at this stage and it is only the beginning. If you are a European and feel passionate about this, please keep on reading and help!

So what has happened so far … the Commission has drafted up a long overdue copyright reform. https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280 It contains a lot of good, and some bad: mainly Article 11 and 13.

This was put forward as a whole to the European Parlament, where it was voted down on the 5th of July 2018

This meant, this will not go through the fast way, and will be subject to scrutiny and change. 

The Commission made some alterations https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280 and put it forward again. If Parlament would have voted it down again, it probably would have meant back to the drawing board, but most people (including me) agree that Europe does need copyright reform, so on the second vote it passed the first step:

So what happens now? 

This will now go into what is called the Trilogue, where Commission, Parlament and representatives of all national governments will sit together to make alterations until everybody is happy implementing the regulation.

This means we can now influence this via our MEPs and our National Government!

If countries that are red your government is likely to support Article 13.

What to do now?

There are a lot of organisations that organise actions against article 13. Check out their websites and get in touch with your MEP or local government and let them know you are unhappy about this.

Reblogging for the more positive stance and call to action. This is not the moment to panic, although article 13 and 11 are scary. But the final law is not approved yet, and so far MPE’s have shown to be influenced by the amount of messages. I received several responses from MPE’s who voted for the law but are pushing for strong limits to these laws to make sure that while it protects copyrights, it will also allow fan creation, memes and parody. So let’s make sure the word spread, and that the version of the law that get accepted in several months is one that WON’T destroy the internet as we know it.

So Who’s the Real Villain Now? (Connor X Reader)

This is for @writinginstability’s challenge. And this is also my first time writing a fanfic so sorry if any characters are OOC. Criticism and feedback are greatly appreciated!  Hope you guys enjoooy!

Prompt: “So who’s the real villain now?”

Warnings: Angst, Death, Guns, Slight Gore, and Swearing (Let me know if I missed anything and I’ll add it)

“So, Connor, where did you say we were going again,” you said as you bucked your seatbelt with a satisfying click. You look at Connor, hoping to get some sort of answer out of him. He had been really quite recently. Ever since he’s shown signs of deviancy, he’s begun to distance himself from you. You didn’t question him much because you were slightly scared of him. You still loved him though. You just didn’t want him to know.

“It’s the murder scene of Roland Cortez. The report said that his body was found and has been presumed to be dead for the last few days. His roommate came back from a business trip and found his corpse,” Connor explained. You nodded every few words to show you were listening, but you really weren’t. There were other things to be focusing on. One of these things being whether you should tell Connor how you felt. It was a real mystery as to why you loved him, but of course, the only person you told was Hank. Speaking of Hank, he kept making kissy faces whenever Connor wasn’t looking. Hopefully, the android in question didn’t have any super android senses that could pick up whatever Hank was doing. 

“Alright. Stop fucking staring each other down and get outta my fucking car. You lovebirds make me-” Hank was cut off by Connor.

“Lieutenant, I can assure you nothing romantic is happening between me and Detective (L/N). Everything is purely professional,” Connor turns to face you, “Isn’t that right Detective?” 

This was a stab to your heart, but of course, this wasn’t what Connor wanted to say. He wanted to say he wanted something more, but Amanda was breathing down his neck. She was monitoring his every move since Connor started receiving errors around you. She was also especially not happy today because he had let Gavin somewhat beat him up over a spilled cup of coffee. The three of you exited the car to investigate the scene. 

After some investigating, you hear a noise upstairs. Walking up the creaky steps, you notice that a door was ajar. Curiously, you peaked your head in to find a girl’s bedroom. Pictures of a little girl were hung on the walls, and crayon drawings were scattered across the room. The crayons themselves were all broken in halves and littered the floor, and the bedsheets were a dark blue. You eyed a walk-in closet to your left, and slowly open the door. To your surprise, the deviant was hiding there, and her eyes were filled with fear. Her LED remained a crimson red, and her brunette hair was disheveled. Her brown, synthetic skin was covered in purple, and her brown eyes stared into yours. “Hey, I’m not here to harm you. I just wanna talk,” you whispered. She glared at you.

“Bullshit,” the android whispered back. You put your hands up to gesture to her that you meant no harm. 

“Listen, there are other officers downstairs. I’ll just stand here and ask a few questions, then leave like nothing happened. If you move or don’t comply, I scream. Sound good?” 

“... Fine...”

“Did you murder Roland Cortez?”

“Yes. I did.”

“Why?”

“He abused me...”

“Imma need you to elaborate on that, Miss...”

“My name is Carla.”

“Miss Carla! Yes, nice name. Please elaborate as much as you’re willing to.”

“We loved each other. We loved each other so very much. But, he also had his own wife who he divorced a year ago. I don’t know what happened, but that day he was acting all weird. He smelled weird too. He became more and more abusive, and that smell became stronger. Turns out he smoked red ice right after they divorced. The day I murdered him, he tried to rape me. I thought to myself-” Before she could finish her sentence, Connor had slammed open the door. He looked at you, and then the deviant. 

“Detective (L/n), step away from the deviant,” Connor said.

“I’m interrogating her right now,” you replied. After just hearing part of Carla’s story, you couldn’t bear to hand her over to Connor. You understood what she was going through, as you yourself had been through some abusive relationships before. 

“Detective, I won’t ask again, “ he replied. You looked at Carla, who was scared out of her mind. She nodded at you to let her be captured. She just wanted everything to end. So, you stepped to the side and Connor took Carla into custody. 

The next day at work Connor had approached you. “Detective (L/n), may I speak to you about yesterday’s deviant?” You nodded and followed him to the rooftop of the precinct. The cold wind nipped at your face as you faced Connor. He glared at you. “Why did you protect it?” 

“I don’t know what you’re talking about Connor. I was interrogating her-”

“And there you go. That android is an ‘it’ detective. It is not a ‘her.’ I shall put it into terms you understand. If this were to be a Disney movie, we would be the heroes, and that android is the villain. It shouldn’t be protected.”

“Connor, you know how I feel about this!”

“But why? What makes you think we’re alive when we’re not? I’ve told you before detective. We are machines built to accomplish tasks.”

“Well, what if I said it was your fault for being so goddamn attractive?” Connor’s eyes widened at your statement. His LED flashing yellow for a bit before returning back to blue.

“Excuse me?”

“Connor, I’ve liked you for the longest time, and I hate seeing you put yourself down like this!” Connor’s LED turned red, and the emotion he had was suddenly gone.

“It seems then that you are a distraction to my mission then,” Connor said in a more robotic tone.

“Connor?”

“I must eliminate you before you cause my systems to have any more errors.”

“Connor, I-” Connor cuts you off with a gun. You stare at him with shock. “No. You aren’t my Connor.” And you were right for saying that. Internally, Connor was fighting to save you because he did reciprocate your feelings. He wanted to be around you more because of how alive he feels whenever he’s around you.

“Goodbye detective (L/n).”

BANG

Blood pooled around your lifeless body. Hank stood by the doorway in shock. “What the fuck Connor?” He said. Connor blinks rapidly for a few moments before returning to his old self. Tears threaten to spill from his eyes as he stared at you. 

“So, guess who’s the real villain now, huh?”
