The EU is trying to pass stricter copyright laws, aka Article 13. The big companies will cater to the strictest laws and deal out the same thing everywhere, meaning wherever you are, your social media will follow the EUās new rules.Ā
THIS AFFECTS THE ENTIRE INTERNET, and it is in its FINAL STAGES.
It means almost every YouTube channel/user of any social media using something that isnāt theirs is on the chopping block. This means the death of our fanart, fan theory videos, gaming channels, and most of all, our memes.

Article 13 has been approved by EU. Itās worse than Net Neutrality has ever been. I donāt even know if we will have any access to Tumblr, Pinterest, Ao3 or even Instagram. Memes are probably dead, just like reactions, fanfictions and gifsets. Everyone in EU is in danger that they will not have access to their favorite sites. But I havenāt seen a SINGLE post about it on my dash because Americans doesnāt give a damn.
Also, Iām in Europe and ngl, had no idea this was even an article up for debate let alone it being fucking passed.

So what has happened so far ā¦ the Commission has drafted up a long overdue copyright reform. https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280Ā It contains a lot of good, and some bad: mainly Article 11 and 13.
This was put forward as a whole to the European Parlament, where it was voted down on the 5th of July 2018
This meant, this will not go through the fast way, and will be subject to scrutiny and change.Ā
The Commission made some alterationsĀ https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280Ā and put it forward again. IfĀ Parlament would have voted it down again, it probably would have meant back to the drawing board, but most people (including me) agree that Europe does need copyright reform, so on the second vote it passed the first step:
So what happens now?Ā
This will now go into what is called the Trilogue, where Commission, Parlament and representatives of all national governments will sit together to make alterations until everybody is happy implementing the regulation.
This means we can now influence this via our MEPs and our National Government!
If countries that are red your government is likely to support Article 13.
What to do now?
There are a lot of organisations that organise actions against article 13. Check out their websites and get in touch with your MEP or local government and let them know you are unhappy about this.

But the final law is not approved yet, and so far MPEās have shown to be influenced by the amount of messages. I received several responses from MPEās who voted for the law but are pushing for strong limits to these laws to make sure that while it protects copyrights, it will also allow fan creation, memes and parody. So letās make sure the word spread, and that the version of the law that get accepted in several months is one that WONāT destroy the internet as we know it.Ā

To The Guy Who Caused This Mess
When you called it off, my heart just shut down. I went from being on top of the world to the bottom of hell when you said it. Youād think after 3 months Iād be over it, but I guess Iām not. Some nights I cry myself to sleep just thinking about you. Youāre the one that always fills my thoughts, even after we were through. I want to get over you. Believe me, I donāt enjoy feeling this hurt. However, you also give me this feeling thatās so intoxicating, I canāt live without it. This feeling is also fucking with me. It makes me desperate for you. Desperate for us. Heck, Iām even crying as I type this goddamn letter. I try to think of all the negative aspects of you. The lack of empathy when I need it, you being an asshole, your big nose, everything. No matter how hard I try though, I still love you. Iāve been trying to lie to myself for you because I want you to be happy. I know you want me to move on right now but I canāt because youāve hurt me too much. There are many things I wish you would do though to at least help me heal from the wounds youāve inflicted.
