DPXDC~Allergy Pt1
White Boy Weakness
Danny, busting in the door after his first encounter with a kryptonite weilding egg head: You guys are NEVER gonna believe what I just found out!
Dante: grunts in IDGAF
Ellie: Whatever it is has gotta be better than homework.
Jazz: With this family, I'll believe anything.
Danny trying hard not to laugh: So you know that rock the supers are allergic to?... It's mineralized ectoplasm! So we were having this big ol fight with this bald fruitloop, and he's getting his butt kicked. Totally thwarted his plans. So he goes all todlers in tiaras and throws a huge hissy fit, like full on 'you will rue the day!' And WHAT does he pull out when Superboy goes to arrest him? This lil chunk of Kryptonite. Which smells amazing, by the way. He's holding it out like the world's greenest crucifix, and Soupie Boi hits the ground HARD.
Dante: Nodding in partial attention.
Jazz: Oh no poor Superboy! Is he okay now?
Ellie: My mischief senses are tingling. What did you do?
Danny: He's fine now Jazz... In my defense. I was high on adrenaline, and Superboy was down and getting worse by the second, so I had to act fast, and did I mention that Kryptonite smells really good? Like, REALLY good. Also, I sorta missed lunch, so I was hungry, hangry really...
Dante shrugging: You're not yourself when you're hungry.
Jazz: No, please tell me you didn't.
Ellie vibrating in anticipation: Please tell me you DID!
Danny: Yeah, I gave that crystal the ol chomp chomp. And the fruitloop went whomp whomp.
Dante: laughing in supportive older alter.
Jazz: DANNY NO!!
Ellie: Danny YES!
Danny: Bwahahaha you should have seen the look on his face! The dude's eyebrows practically became a toupé! There was like a full ten seconds of eye contact where half his hand was in my mouth! It took a flash of fang for him to decide his fingers were worth more than the rock.
Dante: So what's it taste like?
Ellie reading over Jazz's shoulder while she looks up Kryptonite and its effects when ingested: Yeah! Cause it looks like it should taste like electric lime or the most bitter apple that's ever existed.
Danny: Honestly, sorta like MSG, but with a little spicy kick to it. Ten outta ten, would try again. Hmm you think we could grate it down and use it as seasoning?
Dante: That would be the most expensive and extravagant way to season a steak... We should do it.
Ellie: WAIT! Doesn't this officially make the Supers too white for ghost spice?
Danny: oof, I don't know if I can keep hanging out with someone too white for ghost salt.
Jazz: Be nice! They can't help their allergies. Also, Danny, lab. I want to take a few readings to be sure you haven't gotten BooPoisioning or something.
Danny: Awwe, Jazz, way to take the fun outta ghost salt. Can't we just wait till something goes wrong like we used to?
Chapter 1
Kon Kent has a new classmate in Metropolis, one that he has a crush on. By there are some concerning things about Danny Fenton: his nosebleeds, how he won’t eat food from home, how jumpy he is about being given things… oh, yeah, and his parents work for Lex Luthor.
GenAI v. not GenAI round up.
So you can avoid them stealing things from you, the artist/writer, etc.
Pro GenAI websites/Programs:
X/Twitter (Remember, Grok gives people cancer)
Threads
Pro Writing Aid
Grammarly
Duolingo
Google Docs
Microsoft Word/all Microsoft products Takes from and will feed their machine.
Youtube (taking advantage of people who are hearing impaired. ==;;)
Adobe Products. All of them. If you HAVE to use them (Some businesses require it), save offline because there is a film of at least some privacy protections there, so if you have to sue, you can say it violates US privacy law. Remember, contracts do not circumvent US law.
Corel won't feed the machines, but still uses AI stolen from other artists. Which sucks since Corel Draw is the second best overall for vector programs. (Plus I love Painter, but I bought the offline version to avoid AI). (Canadian company)
Canva Takes and feeds their machine.
Deviant Art Not only supports AI, but put a tool in and said they are going to steal your work if you like it or not for their machine.
Sketchup went Pro-GenAI. The thing is that you can do the same thing in Blender these days with precise measurements.
Autodesk has stated they are Pro-Gen AI here. It is not clear if they will use your models to feed their machine. But be on guard. They make Maya and 3Dmax. You can replace it with Blender.
Neutral ground:
Tumblr (there is a way to opt out [Link] and they don't have an active AI machine.) https://www.tumblr.com/dookins/743519550598987776/heres-how-to-disable-third-parties-like-ai
Etsy allows GenAI, but still has some (minor) restrictions. I'd still be cautious. (Also be cautious of drop shippers). Complaints about too much AI and AI images+patterns made by Ai still exist on the website. They lean slightly more pro-AI, but still won't let it run completely amok, say like Facebook. They won't feed your work into a machine, but also don't ban it through robots.txt.
Bluesky They don't use an AI algorithm except for in the "Discover" section of their website, but while they are anti-GenAI strongly, they don't seem to block the Gen AI bots from entry, so you'd still have to use Nightshade or Glaze (links below). There is no opt-out because they don't need an opt out. (Leaning towards strong position on AI, but I wish they would block GenAI bots).
Searxng- If you super want to screw over Google, in general, and have some tech savvy, you can set up your own search engine through searxng. It's easier on Windows and Linux than it is on a Mac. (Mac you need Docker), but if you're determined on privacy, Searxng adds a layer of privacy. Some of it sometimes uses bits of AI, but most of it doesn't and you can fuss with the settings so it doesn't spit out AI results. At sheer minimum Google will stop spitting out weird videos on Youtube at you because in your private browsing, you searched for the origin of ball bearings while not logged in for a book and Google likes to break privacy laws.
Strong positions against AI:
Scrivener (Creator vowed against AI) Writing program. There is an active forum, and versions for Mac, Linux and PC. It is paid, but at ~60 USD, it's cheaper than most programs. There is usually a holiday sale around Christmas. It has a learning curve, but with an active forum with the programmer of it there to ask obscure questions it's not a dead zone. They often take suggestions and implement them over time. (Especially if you rank the importance, applications, etc) US company.
LibreOffice Open source and free Spreadsheet and Word processor program that can replace Microsoft Word. Some people might have seen older versions where it was called Neo Office (now extinct) and Open Office. LibreOffice is still populated, plus the forums are super helpful if you get stuck. The UX is pretty intuitive if you've used Microsoft Word. Scrivener, BTW, supports exporting to odt (the native file) as well as .doc, and this can open both. The slight thing is that sometimes it doesn't export to .doc smoothly. And I DO wish more magazines, and agent (big clue here) supported .odt files since it is free. Part of the reason .odt isn't as supported is because Microsoft and Adobe have a deal with the devil with each other, so Adobe's Book formatting program InDesign doesn't support ODT. (BTW, if you have a good open source replacement for InDesign that supports ODT, let me know.)
Dabble (as suggested by SF stories, see reblog) is a writing program. Similar to Scrivener. Has vowed against AI and to resist it. 108 dollars a year for Basic. It is almost twice the price of Scrivener who lets you update for fairly cheap. 29 dollars a month, v. 59 dollars for the whole program (Scrivener) for the same features of Premium. You choose.
yWriter is a free Writing program and like Scrivener, and has vowed against AI Last I looked it had some UX issues, but some people swear by it. The learning curve is higher than Scrivener which is saying something.
Ellipsus is an online writing program and vowed against AI. The main feature I like (which Scrivener doesn't have) is the ability to change spellcheck based on region/language. It is a requested feature of Scrivener, but lower priority. So if you have a Brit, you can get the spelling for the character. They are a British-based company.
Cara.app (The creator of the website sued GenAI there is no chance they'll convert) is an artist website. Cara is trying to institute an auto Glaze/Nightshade into the website if given enough funds. People see it as a soft replacement for deviant art. (which went fully AI) If you believe in human art, please donate if you can. Zhang Jingna, the Creator,is Chinese-Singporean. She lives in Singapore.
Clip Studio Paint added AI, but saw the light and decided to protect artists instead because of protest and removed it. There are tutorials and a good forum if you get super stuck. Based in Japan, so the UI and UX is really clean.
Davinci Resolve Pro is a film editing software that's super good. There is a free version and a paid version. The forums are responsive. The programmers aren't always present. There is a healthy group of tutorials. US company. Clean UX. It does take a little bit of time to remember the shortcuts.
Tahoma2D is anti-AI and open source animation program. Takes a little getting used to, but is good for animations and doesn't crash as often as Animate. Programmers are in the forums and some bugs are fixed within hours. The forums are super responsive and helpful.
Krita open source and free, no AI. I'd rank it secondary to Clip Studio Paint (which is paid) I haven't tried the forums, but it's pretty intuitive and can stand for a lower level replacement for Painter, and do a lot of the basics of Photoshop. It's usually ranked higher than the equally open source Gimp.
Writer P AKA Writer+ (app for when you're on the go) is a simple word processor app for your phone that doesn't use AI. The original programmer stopped updating, so Writer+ person took over and isn't out to make a profit since it's free in the spirit of the original app. It has subfolders you can use. Since it was programmed before GenAI it doesn't have AI. Intuitive, easy to use. Fairly easy to upload the files through three dots->share. The files can save to your card or phone with some settings fussing. Simple word processor.
Inkscape is a free vector program and no AI. It is harder to use than illustrator and has less features. But if you're doing smaller vectors for one-offs with less complexity, it'll do you after some learning curve. Best of the lot. I hate Affinity Designer which is the same thing, only paid. (Neither Affinity program was worth the money paid)
Affinity (Designer, etc) swore to be AI-free and does Vector and Photos. The UX is messy, I dislike the program and regret paying for it. Inkscape and Krita are better UX and do the same thing. The forums aren't as friendly since there has been an onslaught of people seeing it's supposed to be a replacement for Photoshop and Illustrator, but the programmers aren't present. The people on the forums are often on edge about this assertion. And the capabilities of the program don't outshine basically Krita or Inkscape capabilities (both free). What is usually intuitive is not. UK company. If you're going to pay for a program, go for Clip Studio Paint which rivals Corel Painter.
Blender is a 3D art program and does not use GenAI. It can do 2D animation, but Tahoma is easier to use in this regard. It's open source and free. Plus there are plenty of tutorials. The forums can be touch and go sometimes, but there are plenty of sub Blender communities that might be responsive. It can also do animation.
Handmade vowed against AI and promised to never sell itself for stock prices to prevent AI (as a replacement for Etsy.)
Discover a world of creativity and craftsmanship through Handmade, an innovative platform connecting passionate artisans with discerning buy
Proton (to replace Google Suite) as suggested by SF Stories (see reblog) Vowed against AI. They are missing a spreadsheet, but have online and offline capabilities, plus a built-in VPN.
But you need a pro website...
Look up robots.txt and AI bots: https://www.cyberciti.biz/web-developer/block-openai-bard-bing-ai-crawler-bots-using-robots-txt-file/
Use cloudflare:
Use Nightshade:
https://nightshade.cs.uchicago.edu/whatis.html
which will poison the algorithm
Use Glaze:
Take Away:
The thing is you think you doing it alone will do nothing, but the more AI feeds on itself, AI images, the worse they become, and the less detailed so, denying it the images, adding poison or not being able to read the human text is eventually going to lead to an AI collapse.
Analysis shows that indiscriminately training generative artificial intelligence on real and generated content, usually done by scrapi
And why not help that along?
I don't want to give cancer to poor people [Link] or make the planet burn faster [Link]. So GenAI collapse is everything I dream of. GenAI apocalypse is not.
I've been using open office for a decade, but I'm of the "my fiction goes on my physical HD until I'm done with it" school of writing.
Also here's a guide to removing AI from firefox, since that's also the only browser I use.
Reblogging for the tags: #unfortunately no viable alternative to canva for cv/template making#i am NOT installing 150 different fonts to test them out and office is ass when you want to make something at least a little pretty
You only need 1 font for your CV.
OMG, it's soo hard to typeset a resume, which is why I want to use GenAI. Oh please.
You only need 1 font for the entire thing. That should be a serif font and of the serif fonts there are basically 3 that are acceptable: Calbri, Times New Roman, and Garamond.
I will tell you from actually taking typography, that Garamond is a dream to typeset. It makes me exceptionally happy. And you might be going but 500 fonts~~ why? I mean I know YOUR font collection.
First of all: Know your fonts. If it's going to be printed, then use a serif font.
For digital fonts use sans serif, and the rest... FUCK NO. PLEASE. You're daft if you're effing rolling up with 100% Black letter.
As soon as you have more than 3 colors, it's going to be hard to read. More than 3 fonts and I'll likely want to stab you, I mean 2 is pushing it.
Typography isn't that hard to learn because it's such a minimalist art form (no one appreciates TT)
And you might be thinking BUT THAT'S BORING
And I'm going to tell you, if machines are reading your CV, rather than a human being WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU SPENDING ALL YOUR TIME ON FONTS, NOT ON THE CONTENTS OF YOUR CV?
The machine is programmed for certain kinds of fonts because the programmers are lazy, so why make it more difficult than necessary on yourself.
And yeah, making 2 columns in Libre Office isn't that difficult. And yeah, LibreOffice has downloadable templates for it, not that you bothered to look. And no, as a graphic designer I'm going to stab you as soon as you have anything other than Black and white. Get over yourself.
What's the most important thing on a CV? Readbility of your branding, not what it looks like.
I say this over and over again on this blog. Writers shouldn't be preoccupied with how the words look on the page with bolds and italics, etc. Concentrate on the quality of the words.
No human is reading that thing most of the time these days, why do you care to make it 20 different colors and fonts anyway?
FUCK CANVA. You don't need it. I've gotten jobs with 100% Times New Roman. Your employer has no fucking clue about fonts anyway, even if it reaches them.
BTW, if you know it's going to stay digital, then the fonts to choose from are: Verdana, Arial and Helvetica, in that order. Helvetica is risky, BTW, because it's almost everywhere. I dislike Arial because it's so round on most people set it up as first on the internet.
Arial and Times New Roman are rated best for dyslexic users. (Garamond I haven't seen testing for, but it's handling of negative space makes it easier to read).
You got 6 to choose from. That's it. Do not deviate, do not pass go. It's not that hard. If Canva gave you the impression you needed all those fonts and colors, that's a problem. They are misguiding you. A typographer would reach for 1 of 6 for a CV.
BTW, as I said before, this isn't the space to make excuses about how you can't or won't learn new programs, or make excuses about how you can't quit GenAI. You can by doing things like learning Graphic design, etc. Besides, I think writers and artists should learn at least a little bit of both because then a writer will know when their cover doesn't look like shit, and an artist will know how to handle contracts better.
Reblogging for tags: #using the basic editing tools isn't really like generating a whole doc but i see your point#also i'm not pro gen ai so you can fuck right off with that condescending tone#you fixated on the cv part when i was talking about fandom things when i mentioned templates and fonts but ok#otherwise good point#moving a square png on a text document without layers to make a pretty cv (which is for my own sake) in office is still ass though.#and the lack of good visual help for perfect spacing between elements is devastating when you post something and realise it's crooked#which are my main reasons for using (again the basic editing tools in) canva#but yeah good post#if you're talking to people who are genuinely trying to not use anything that has gen ai#otherwise i don't think being insulting like you were here would go well with someone who doesn't give a shit#that's what i get for trying to be funny on the lowkey on the funny website i guess?
Stolen data is stolen data. I don't know how you sleep at night, but I feel better if I'm not piggybacking off of people who have been pillaged. I mean imperialism and all of that.
ProWritingAid uses GenAI. Also Grammarly. Grammarly announced they were happy to be stealing user's data and I was like !@#$ you. So yes, it can be, but doesn't have to. (Most use Noam Chomsky)
Literally graphic designer here. So when I say one of six fonts, I mean one of six fonts. I've done MULTIPLE (and perhaps the only??) posts on typography and how it works. I even did a short version for Indie Authors, since the longer post on how to do covers seemed to lose people. (More than half of this blog is resources).
You shouldn't be using images in a CV... maybe simple borders, but seriously, there are free templates out there made by the user base. The only case of using a PNG into a CV is in Asia, usually when you need to add a photo, but it's illegal in Britain, US, Australia, NZ and Canada. The only place I've encountered where photos are required as part of the CV is in East Asia. Obviously race reasons drive the other countries. Pretty CVs don't get you jobs.
Libre Office's forums are great to help get past the technical difficulties. People post templates, etc. (I made a template for Scrivener and gave people the novel and Short story template formats for manuscripts.)
There are people who have reblogged in tags to boast about genAI as bad actors. OMG, I can't switch~ OMG, why can't you just excuse GenAI. But LibreOffice is too hard though I didn't look at the forums and I keep crying about how Microsoft Word keeps crashing and losing my docs.
I understand there might be personal reasons, but laziness and not being willing to learn is not a good reason. The awesome thing about the writing and art communities is that we're primed to help others. Most creative communities are like this—the we're in it together. I'm LOUSY at making music. lol. But even the music community is super friendly.
I have a BA in Anthropology, with a minor in Comp Lit and (most of) an AA in art (Two classes to go. I was thrown back after the DEI crash out.). I've worked for a manga company (editing) and professionally done websites (front end), and professionally done graphic design. Generally a nerd who does programming badly. And super dabbles in other things. (Like reading through the Monkeypox study and linking then President Biden to my analysis because I was quite disturbed at blaming only gay men, when the study didn't say that.)
Basics:
KIS- Keep it simple. (Simple doesn't mean minimalism)
2. Know your audience.
If more employers could do the second they might have done better.
I worked for a t-shirt company and I told the head of the company the second and they were shocked when someone got first results. I told him why and he wouldn't shift strategies.
3. Concentrate on your negative space and arranging it well. Even my favorite collages and some of the most busy artworks manage the negative space super well. Escher... excellent management of negative space.
4. Other websites will do color theory for you. (Color picker websites with Analogous, etc) I also posted basic color theory... 5. And meh, if you need something specific beyond that, usually there is a tutorial somewhere. How to draw buildings. How to draw off of a pose so it doesn't look traced. How to do structure, gesture, and contour drawing and why you would do that. How to do reflections quickly. Which color pencils are the most color fast and which color.
You do not need templates. You only need to know some basic principles of design.
I’ve been experimenting and playing with hex crawls and point crawls quite a bit of late! Designing my own maps! 😊 I really love exploration games the most, and I still have not found any ttrpg that matches TIDEBREAK: IN OTHER WATERS for me in that regard. (I’ve looked everywhere!!) However, I’ve decided to give the weirdhope crawl, ECO MOFOS, a try! I didn’t know if I would like it at first because it is more of a punk, post apocalyptic setting - but it is pretty fun! At least it satiates my current mood for hex crawl gaming.
Ultimately, I want to learn how the mechanics work as I want to design my own ocean crawl game based on TIDEBREAK, exploring more of Gliese and its ocean life! (Which I found out is based on an actual real exoplanet!😮)
There are currently community copies available for ECO MOFOS!

a solo poetry writing rpg for teen witches
Ms. Goode’s School (for Bad Witches) is a solo journaling role-playing game. In it, you play as a young witch whose journey to developing their craft is filled with trouble and danger and lots of hijinks. As the player, you will write magical incantations in the form of metered poetry.
If you (like me) could never really figure out how to write poetry in iambic pentameter, this game will guide you through writing in different types of meter and poetic forms till you can confidently write blank verse, all while feeling like you are crafting powerful spells.
Ms. Goode’s School (for Bad Witches) includes 126 prompts to guide your witch on their journey and 18 pages clearly and simply explaining the basics of poetic meter within the context of writing magical incantations. You will overcome challenges, cast spells (that often backfire), and get help from friends and family to perform powerful magic.
The game takes as its primary inspiration all the iterations of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and The Worst Witch, but especially the 90’s television sitcoms.
Get it here for the low low price of pay what you wish.

How in the bloody hell does one find one specific image from at least 15 years ago on internet???
I can remember a lot of the details of said image, cuz i used it as my old laptop's wallpaper for years. I still love it so much and want it to be the wallpaper for my new laptop.
However, i can't get into my old laptop to recover the image from there. And i have been using every key word and detail i can remember to try and find it again, but to no avail.
Speed Running Famiy, ch8.p1

It’s a different house, suddenly, with Bart and Barry using their powers (and Wally when he’s there). It’s like there had been a spark that was missing that’s suddenly back. At first, Danny feels bad. That spark had been missing because he was there. Because they had hid it from him.
It’s something that Danny thinks about over the next few days while he’s stuck on the couch, healing. He turns it over in his mind. He adds to it the care that they’re showing him as he heals. The home that they’ve given him. That they want him in their family. The family hid these things to keep him safe, and now that he’s staying, they don’t have to anymore.
It’s actually a really nice thing.
It makes some of it harder.
Under ordinary circumstances, Danny wouldn't have resorted to throwing punches first ask questions later. But he was on the run and he was tired so when the hero sneaks up on him, he swings. Now he is on the run, tired, and has a concussed hero to take care of.
Concussed Super would be fun. They'd probably be extra out of it because they don't get concussions. This is a first for them. They don't know what's happening and they don't know what to do about it and thinking hurts and nothing feels right and is this magic? Mind control? Why can't they think clearly? Why can't they understand?
A Bat would get a concussion and at least know what it was, probably also try to power through it.
A Super would be just so lost.
For maximum chaos? Let's add a kidnapping! Clark was playing Super Catch with Jon. You know, as ya do. Bit o flying, throw a ball with super strength, fly after it. Catch and repeat! Good wholesome fun!
But? Uh oh!
Who is this lost, bedraggled, upset looking youth?
Flying in Metropolitan air space?
Clark better put on both his Dad AND Superman pants and make sure he's oka-*WHAM* Mmmmm plurble! Tasting colors. He's okaaay! 👍🏻
Danny, however, is NOT. Because, oh god. Oh GOD! He just PUNCHED SUPERMAN! That's like punching a cop, your dad, AND a priest at the SAME TIME!!! He's going to SUPER HELL JAIL. On TOP of everything else! He's gonna cry!
But he's still being ACTIVELY being chased and he can't just LEAVE the guy with... a concussion? It seems kinda like a concussion. OH GOD, HOW HARD DID HE PUNCH HIM!?
Then?
Then!?
SuperBOY is there.
You know, SuperMAN's SON? Small child? The baby Kryptonian? Who just saw him PUNCH HIS DAD! Oh god, kid I can explain. I am so SO sorry, and-!
But THEN? Fuckers in White show up. Attack helicopters. Why. WHY do they have attack helicopters? HOW do they have attack helicopters?! Who the FUCK is okaying their BUDGET!? This is some Bruce Banner, chasing the Hulk, BULLSHIT!
He has no time to explain.
Because?
If it flies? It's a Ghost.
Open Fire.
Over a HEAVILY POPULATED CITY MID-DAY, WHILE HE'S HOLDING SUPERMAN. Because of COURSE they fucking do! When have they EVER cared about collateral damage! He... he doesn't know what anti-ecto rounds will DO to Kryptonian biology. Especially not a CHILDS.
He's not about to find out.
Boy under one arm, Man in fireman's carry over the other, Danny and the two Supers are OUT of there. At top speeds. Does he really have the energy to burn for this? No. But it's amazing what adrenaline can do, ain't it? Protection Obsession coming in clutch, pumping out fuel even as he burns it all away.
They end up half way across the country, phasing through trees to avoid CRASHING through them, as they make a VERY rough landing in some national park.
He thinks he might be crying. That or a head wound. Might be both. His face feels wet and he feels choked up, so could be a throat injury. Don't panic. Ignore the screaming fear in your brain and DONT PANIC. It can't help and just freezes you in place. Freezing gets you hurt. Might get someone KILLED.
He digs his hacked Fenton phone out of his torso. Still kneeling in the dirt. Hands shaking. He doesn't know what to do. But he knows who he can ASK at least. To help Superman. He may not be able to help himself... but... but he can HELP SUPERMAN. Fix this.
And? Look. Jon? Jon is a smart kid. He knows he is. Everyone always looks at him and Damian and thinks "oh, the grumpy one must be the smart one, that one must be the dumb sunshine-y one". As though THAT would ever fly! Damian would never tolerate him if he was dumb! For goodness sake, his PARENTS are award winning investigative journalists!
He just likes to be optimistic, is all. See the world for all the good in it.
And, yeah, at first? He was REALLY mad. This guy PUNCHED his dad for no reason. Hurt him. But? It was clearly an accident. And the longer Jon looks at him? The more messed up the guy looks. Bruises, scrapes, poorly bandaged injuries. Bags under his eyes. Shaking hands. And... well, he's crying. Pretty hard.
He didn't mean too. He really, really didn't. He just got startled. Was already on the run from the guys in suits. Didn't expect anyone else to BE up in the sky with him. Now he feels terrible. And Jon? Jon is pretty sure this guy isn't a bad guy.
Listens as he franticly calls some dude named "Frostbite" (ice powers, maybe?) and asks what to do. Tells him about punching his dad. Dad's symptoms. That he's a Kryptonian. The guy doesn't know what to do, obviously, but? What catches Jon of gaurd? Is... is apparently the guy DOES know someone who does?
He'son speaker, so the guy can check Jon's dad. "Elder Frostfang" is apparently the only one who studied in "that area" of "the Zone"? And this guy is some "great one". Lot of vague bits and clues. Jon's cautiously gonna say... alien, maybe? Half alien? Since he recognized Dad?
Mr. Frostfang talks him through checking symptoms. And... yyyyyep. Concussion. Ouch, he's heard those suck. Jon listens carefully to the care instructions. Frostfang talks like a doctor, so it's probably a good idea to follow them? Gonna double check when they get home though.
At least the dude who grabbed them is calmer now.
He thanks the doctors and gets off the line. Jon pipes up before he can put his weird phone away. Asks, politely of course, if he can call a friend of his dad. (Not "mom" in uniform. Never mom. That's the Rule. "Mom" is a mysterious unknown Kryptonian from space. Not award winning reporter Lois Lane.) So that people don't freak out.
Also hi! I'm Superboy!
The guy blinks, exhausted and frazzled. Before it kinda connects for him. His eyes widen and he practically fumbles the phone as he all but launches he at Jon. Yes! God yes! Holy SHIT, please! He is SO SORRY for grabbing Jon like that. His name is Phantom and he just didn't want to find out if Jon COULD get hurt by the specific type of weapons the Suit Guy's were using.
Makes sense, honestly. He'd do the same.
He calls his mom.
They've practiced this. "Hi Mrs. Lane! It's me, Superboy!" (Hi mom, I'm okay, I found a phone.) He runs through the script, casual as can be. Updates her on what going on. And when she asks? Hands her over to Phantom.
And Danny? Nervous. Tired. Wants to sleep for a thousand years but know he... he CANT stop moving. Isn't sure how he's gonna get Superman to his friends SAFELY. How he's gonna protect Superboy. If Superman's friends are gonna try and turn him in. He'll... He'll still go. Because Superman needs medical help, is hurt. But...
God, they're both so NICE? Everything that everybody says about the Super's is true. They really ARE nice people. You DO feel safe around them. Like they've been your friends for years. Like you want to be BETTER because of them, to prove they were RIGHT about you.
But... but Lois Lane? Holy SHIT. SHE? Is SCARY. Like, Sam's "I want to be HER when I grow up" alter of terrifying nightmare ladies, Scary. Respect at a distance. Like you would a very VERY big tiger. P-please don't eat me Mrs. Lane, I constitute a biohazard. I didn't mean to hit him.
She knows. She wants to know if he's okay and if he's currently safe. Tell her what's going on, kid.
And?
And there is something about the confidence, the "I can handle anything" coupled with the caring in her voice. That just... finally makes him break down. It's the voice of an authority figure, who actually gives a damn, who needs information so they can make things RIGHT. And... and he's been waiting... waiting so, SO long for that?
It all spills out. Not even just hitting Superman. EVERYTHING. All the things he's been wanting to tell someone but COULDN'T. Because he's just fourteen. Just fifteen. Just running and running and now sixteen. A kid. He wanted to be an astronaut, Mrs. Lane. Eat burgers and hang out with his friends.
He's scared.
It was an accident. (In the beginning and ever since. Isn't it ALWAYS?)
It takes a few tries, because Clark can't coordinate his limbs so good right now. But he manages to land a hand on the kids knee, gently squeeze. The world may be woozy and he may feel sick, but sobbing upset teenager needs a hug. Can't do NOTHING. Jon agrees. There are GOING to be hugs happening. Super hugs.
Mrs. Lane promises she's gonna fix "this". What IS this? Punching her... friend? College? Boyfriend? She's married but like... Tucker made a REALLY good case that they're a throuple. So who even knows. But, Punching Superman.
Is she gonna fix THAT... or... or like? Everything? How... how would that even WORK?
...
......
Well, with the Flash showing up, for starters.
He nearly punchs HIM too. Oh god, they're gonna think Ghosts ARE violent! He's attacking EVERYBODY! And not in the fun way! In the "kill you before you kill me!" Way!!! Danny might cry. Again. Today sucks SO MUCH.
But the Flash just? Moves out of the way. Cause of course he does. He's THE FLASH. He moves at The Flash Speed. The guy just keeps smiling and... and talking in that "hey, it's gonna be okay" voice that you use when you're pulling people out of wrecked buildings, and... and? He's never been on the RECEIVING end of it?
More Speedsters are here, to pick up the Supers. But the big guy is just... just focused on him? Talks in calm voice and shares an energy bar when he mentions his extreme metabolism. And... and please god don't let this be a trick. Because Danny has spent so long afraid, been so CERTAIN that the Justice League would side with the GIW and...
And they're NOT.
They're good people. Real, actual heroes. Older then him and know what they're doing and... and... God he's just so tired! He TRIED. He swears! But the threats kept getting bigger and the GIW showed up and his parents won't LISTEN! And... and his grades are in the toilet! And he knows! He KNOWS that shouldn't matter when LIVES are on the line, but it DOES! It... it does.
It's too much.
And? Barry tells him it's gonna be okay. Because they're here now. Because THIS? This IS their job. He did good. Held on. He was brave. And Barry is sorry he had to do that alone.
One super speed jog and a teleport later? They are where the GIW can officially kiss the League's collective asses. Space. American government has no jurisdiction HERE. There IS no extradition unless they say so. And the League says those laws are so far beyond unethical they bring new levels to the term "war crimes".
In FACT, they plan to say that publicly.
At a PRESS CONFERENCE.
But? In the mean time? This is the mess hall and THAT is a free bed. Pick an order of your choosing. Eat then pass out or pass out then eat. Just rest, kiddo. Let the adults handle this, for once. You did it. You got to safety. And once Superman is no longer smelling blue, you can apologize like ya wanted.
Enjoy space!
(Danny does.)
Things aren't solved overnight. It's never that easy. But the Leaguers are true to their word. They work with the UN and Oa to put the US Government on blast for their unethical and blatant breach of the Meta Protection Acts.
By declaring an entire species as non-sentient from the frankly biased and unscientific research from a single couple of Doctors, they nearly plunged their entire planet (and maybe dimension) into an unwinnable war.
Especially after they learn that Danny's technically royalty (not even technically, he IS, but he does his best to downplay it because he's too young, that he hasn't been crowned yet but that he would be once he's 18.)
The Anti-Ecto Acts are eventually repealed, after months of bellyaching and arguing by various politicians and bureaucrats and the Doctors Fenton leading the charge, claiming that the "Ghost Boy" had killed their son and possessed his corpse to trick people into trusting him.
Their words broke the poor boy's heart, even causing damage to his core, and he had to be sent to the Realms to rest and recover in the company of his friends and what remained of his family.
The heroes were disgusted by the blatant ignorance and did their best to shelter Danny from the hate. Often times, after his core recovered, the Green Lanterns stationed on Earth would take him to other inhabited planets, letting him have his chance to geek out and somewhat live out his dreams. They all wanted to give him a chance to live out what little was left of his childhood before he was inevitably crowned and responsible for the endless expanse of the Infinite Realms.
Danny knew what they were doing, and he was grateful for them, happy even. He let himself be ignorant for just a little while longer. He had eons ahead of him to be responsible. He wanted to goof off while he still could.
See THIS? This is what we all want for him. To be Superhero ADJACENT but not actually involved.
Get to live in the Watchtower. Eat in the Cafeteria and talk engineering with the support engineers who are happy to ramble on about their favorite subject (because, after all, you dont get a once in a lifetime job like THIS if it isn't your PASSION). Get fussed over for being "Too SKINNY!" By the cooks.
Train with random Heros in the Tower because he looks perpetually like a stiff breeze will knock him over. And it? Sets off their "must Protecc Son" iinstincts.
Yes, even the sidekicks.
Yes even the one's younger then him.
Robin is CONCERNED about him. How will he bear the burdens of kinghood? Has he been eating? You HAVE been attending your governance lessons, correct? Says the tiny knife child.
Aquaman sitting, huge and regal, in a casual slouch, at a spare desk in a side room with him. Pointing at notes made in a cheap notebook. Lessons he's learned the hard way. Little tricks. When in doubt, do this or that. Here how you...
Just? A true "it takes a village" scenario.
Everyone's friend and son and brother. Danny Phantom. The KID who gets to grow into being king. Who for once in his life IS actually ready. Is... Great. Glorious. Kind.
Shaped by kindness and patience and compassion into a Ghost of such power and benevolence? The effects are felt long, LONG after humanity is gone. After this one world is dead, recycled, and renewed.
All because that's what Heros DO. And because they CARE.
And a timeless later, in a corner of his keep lit by perpetual sunsets, King Phantom is sitting in the statue garden. He occasionally comes here when he's unsure and wants to think aloud about what the people the statues memorialize would have done, but far more often it's to bask in the memories themselves. Today is different.
Today the Ghost King Danny has an idea.
These heroes offered him so many lessons. Lessons which have weathered eternities, and remained so SO good. Everything has benefitted secondhand from how those lessons shaped his rule. What if they had the lessons themselves and could benefit Firsthand?
"Hey Clockwork! Feel like helping me incept a show in the mortal realm?”
Nintendo Switch Games That Changed My Brain Chemistry
(A Love Letter to Some Special Video Games)
I call myself a cozy gamer. And while I still think that's true, I have played several games, where my playthrough experience was less than cozy and nothing short of a tear filled and/or emotional experience.
Which may seem a bit of a silly thing to say about a game. But, at essence, video games can be art that really touches people and teaches them something they didn't know before. Or resonate with parts of our hearts that even the jadedness of the internet can't wear away.
Or something that make us laugh, have fun when times are truly hard.
I always wondered what the best medium would be to express how I felt about games like that! (And I think a small Tumblr is just the place.)
So without further ado, in no particular order Nintendo Switch/ Video Games that changed my brain chemistry (I love all of these dearly)
and some light spoilers. None of these are new releases though, and I know most of these are pretty well known, so that should be ok.
Night In The Woods; Developed by Infinite Fall and Secret Lab, published By Finjii
Meet Mae, a black cat (aka trash mammal) moving back home after a mysteriously and intentionally vaguely described negative experience at college. But Like a lot of folks moving back home after a long while, nothing seems to be the same and yet so much is (like trying to fit into an old sweater), and Mae is haunted by mysterious forces both internal and external. Anyway. Is that a cult in the woods or is just your imagination? Why would you worry about that when you can build a trash animatronic with your old buddy Greg! ?
I love this game so much. It definitely plays kind of like a visual novel, but with aspects of a mystery adventure game with some platforming! The main cast is extremely sympathetic and this game somehow manages the Olympian task of balancing humor, small town darkness, and a compelling murky mystery.
Favorite quote: "I'm a total trash mammal!"
2. Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood; Deconstructeam and Devolver Digital!
None of this is your fault. But all of it is your responsibility.
Fortuna can see into the future. And like almost every oracle of lore, that has gotten her into trouble. Banished by her coven for her dangerous predictions, and trapped within her immortality and solitude, Fortuna does the unthinkable. She solicits the help of a powerful demon to change her fate.
But what's fate, destiny, and the future in the hands of powerful immortal witches? Make your own decision. Pay the price.
God I loved this one. Also made me cry. Sisterhood, responsibility, fate and our own play into it, power. All the good stuff. I know its been out for years, but telling any more of the story even on this small blog STILL feels like a crime. That's how good it is. I stayed up all night to finish my first playthrough!
Favorite quote(s): already up there :D.
3. Cozy Grove!!! Spry Fox!
A game that probably doesn't need any introduction. I've seen this one all over social media and gaming articles. I love my ghost bears! A little lost spirit scout stumbles onto an island full of ghost bears that need a helping hand. It's so cozy and I love that there's DLC. There's so many takeaways to be had, since there's so many unique stories with each bear. I love how peaceful it is to play through each story. It's the perfect mix of busy work and emotion to me.
My favorite bear: Charlotte Pine (I don't care if its basic! I love her! )
4. Citizen Sleeper Jump Over the Age and Fellow Traveller
Hello cyberpunk, space age dystopia facing the perils of incredibly late stage capitalism.
I wish I could erase this from my brain and play it over again.
A sleeper is essentially and unfortunately a mechanical being forced into servitude from creation. People who want to work off a debt can have their simulated mind grafted into a robot "sleeper" body without their memories or emotions. You play one such being that is trying to break the hold of their corporate captors as you try to outpace your own programmed obsolescence.
What do we owe to each other? And how will you choose to live and be free? And if you aren't human.. what are you? And who gets to decide? How do you decide.
Its cyberpunk! It's high stakes! I love it. Not very actiony action for some, but for me I was glued to my screen. I think there's a lot of takeaways from this one, but it left me wondering what do we owe to each other? The sleeper meets so many people they can help, and truly what do they owe to a world that has quite literally enslaved them from birth? I also think it's interesting and compelling how one person can mean so much to a system. There's pretty much always someone out there who needs you, no matter how small you feel.

5. Naiad, Hi Warp!
"Hello little tear!"
You play as Naiad, a newly formed being made to flow through rivers. Taking care of creatures of all kinds. It is so beautifully animated and written. And a poignant piece on anthropogenic impact to the environment. Its somehow lighthearted and a little heart breaking. Do our small impacts and acts of good matter when the odds are against us? You gotta flow to find out. If nothing else I could love this for how pretty it is, but I loved it for how it made me feel too!
See you later little tear!

It was so nice being able to write about all these wonderful games! I think I'll keep posting things like this.
