also I don't think parents "these days" are uniquely terrible, I just think neglect is showing up in new ways as technology progresses. today's ipad kid would've been wandering around in a ditch alone all day and night before. parents not wanting to have to deal with children is not a new phenomenon.
Today's iPad kid is quite literally yesterday's "shoved in front of a TV for hours on end" kid.
ДЕЛО БЫЛО В ПЕНьКОВЕ (It Happened in Penkovo) 1958 | dir. Stanislav Rostotsky
doing the "we are the daughters of the witches you couldn't burn" thing in a catholic country making it somewhat unclear what I'm getting at
Trying to parse whether this reblog is making:
An extremely inaccurate assumption about how widespread witch trials were in the early modern period
An extremely specific point about the prevalence of different execution methods (most accused witches in Britain were hanged, not burnt)
A radical claim about the ontology of nations (technically the “United Kingdom” wasn’t created until the 1800 Acts of Union, therefore nothing prior to that date happened “in the UK”)
this is an excellent question but your phone may have a concussion
sometimes an american will be talking to you and they start throwing around numbers like 70 or 90 when talking about the weather and you just have to smile and nod
i’m sorry i’m sad a lot it just gets really hard to be alive all the time
I couldn’t be a 911 operator because I’d start crying and screaming right along with you like omfg girl what the hell are you gonna do now.
Being sensitive to changes in barometric pressure is crazy what do you mean my problem is that the wind changed direction. What do you mean it's the fuckin clouds
there is no single argument against including trans women in sports that doesn't boil down to "women aren't supposed to be good at this" and it's fucking insane to me that every woman in the world isn't up in arms about the way this issue has laid institutional misogyny bare to the bone
The 'hyperspecific situations' polls are really once again highlighting that native English speakers tend to forget that 'foreign' doesn't mean 'non-English' or 'non-American'
"Did you watch a foreign language movie in the past three days?" Yeah I watched the foreign movie "The Martian" with foreign actor Matt Damon
Op why would you hide this is the tags
[Image ID: Tumblr tag reading: 'Do you speak a foreign language?' Yeah yours /End ID]
Anything that claims that it can sort all humans into neat categories is bullshit, sorry to say. The sex binary, the gender binary, astrology, MBTI, love languages, whatever. Humans are hugely complex and unique and not a single person on this earth can be accurately described using simple terms like that.
Listen I get it but you CANNOT use "sensory nightmare" as an excuse to avoid essential things. You HAVE to find a way to make it work, such as finding effective alternatives. But you can't just avoid it.
You need to eat some vegetables in your diet or you will become a lich.
You have to wear a life jacket or you will literally drown and die.
You need to be able to exist in public spaces with children.
You have to find a way.
*turns my attention inwards* mmmmm. no *turns my attention back outwards* oh god
